After PinzaDave kindly reskinned a 1972 set of tube stock for me, I set myself a goal of making a similar livery for the 1938 stock.

So I spent all day today playing with shapes and colours and have come up with this. Still a bit of work to do but, considering this is my first ever go in Livery Editor and the livery itself is half fictional, I don't think it looks too bad.

Now I just have to build a blooming pier !!!

    David.

That's a great job, David. I wish my first effort had been half as good! :D

    Thanks for that Dave.

As you can probably guess there is a right jumble of shapes underneath the curved cream bits of the livery but, fortunately, no-one can see that in-game. I think my side name plates might be a little bit low and I am going to try and make a very simple crest to go on the front. (It won't look anything like the real thing mind.....probably just something with lettering for starters).

Then I'm going to make another unit but with green doors this time. After that I'm going to try and experiment with weathering but, TBH, I don't really know where to start there.

Here's some more piccies of the unit in daylight. You can see the current front end a bit better as I forgot to put my headlights on !!!

That's one of the beauties of the Livery Editor, you can clone the model and have a play around. I do wonder how many times we cover over previous layers!
    Have fun with the crest!

Well here is a 'sister' unit to No 22. Meet No 11.

Green doors, slightly different cream stripe, different route decals and a small shield for decoration (a bit much to call it a crest) on both the cab front and the cab doors.

(I ended up taking too long with my screenshots so an AI driver came along and drove the unit away. A good job too as I noticed some of my decals on the trailer car hadn't been set up correctly).

And it's "Goodnight" from No 11 as she disappears down the rabbit hole.
(Maybe looking to find her sister?).

Hi David after our brief chat yesterday I can see now what is was your asking for in your fleet,,,I’m just sorry I didn’t have the stock in you asked for but at least you got some help in the end,,,and I did manage at least to make the Wartime Black Scotsman for you and “Windsor lad”:) as felt I let you down by not having the stock in.
It’s probably better that way tho as I don’t really follow old tube stock,,,so with the vast amount of knowledge the gang have then you made the right decision for they look great,,,,I think your photos are great too and that’s what sets them off better I think.

You also mentioned weathering for you seen my thread on that for I suggested WaveyDavey to have a go at,,,not heard back of yet so not sure how he got on,,,but if you are using them methods mentioned then there not the best for no offence just starting of as it can be a very long drawn out process as like I have mentioned before I have to leave editing and close the game down before the changes actually happen. So if it the same for you then already you can see a waste of time and the added frustration looming.
As this adds more time and due to closing the game down forget really in my head what the previous shade was like and with your added frustration on the scenario front then again it maybe not the best option,,but if you like I have a better solution for you for in the short term until like you say have a play and have fun doing it a get better in time.

You don’t need me to tell you and I hope the other gang agrees that if you don’t want your work to suffer then enjoying it and taking time is key so you don’t get frustrated walk away or even let your work suffer.

Something I have to keep reminding my self of as I have got work with a few faults I either over looked because I’m rushing or overlooking the odd details because either I am frustrated tired and have no heart or passion for a long drawn out livery.
But I guess I am speak from my own experience of staying up all night and day as I tend to be making liveries morning noon and night.
So it will probably be more intense for me,,,so going back to your work it looks neat and tidy for your first go and like you say and I agree just have play a around for now to avoid the frustrations and your also in good hands if the gangs helping out too and in time just like the rest of us that struggled in the beginning to reach where they are today was all down to dogged determination and a ton load of patience and when needed support form those in the know or assistance when things got hard.

So again we’ll done,,,and have fun,,,I’m sure you will:)
And again just want to add the remarks about the photos they do look really good.

    Lee.

We now have units 7 and 25 added to the fleet.
No 7 has green monogrammed doors rather than crests, the revised cream stripe and the route name simply painted on its side.
No 25 is very similar to No 22 with the more curvy stripe and has also recently had a front window replaced on its cab.
    Enjoy :)

    Some more generic pictures.
TBH it's quite good fun making your own fleet and, also, I hadn't realised that the Bakerloo line was so detailed above ground. (It will be a very good route to play around with in the new Editor).

It's those small details which make the assets individual. I like to see locos all the same colour or livery, but with subtle differences which makes each one unique.
It's very rewarding to produce something new or different, my problem is knowing when to stop!
    Sometimes less is more.
Have you thought about doing a commemorative version of the livery, say - 100 years of Southend Pier Railway or such? A good excuse to throw in something different.

No I hadn't thought of that. That's a really good idea. I will definitely do something on those lines.:D
I had wondered about a pride logo too seeing as that is all the rage at the moment.

What I'm experimenting with today is a reversed livery. That will really look different
I quite like working with a small colour pallet and, as you said, seeing what small subtle changes can be done.
I'm really enjoying the Livery Editor and, best of all, it is helping to put-off the day that I need to start building my route.

Whilst you are on Dave I was also thinking about making a 7-car VECTIS set with the 1938 stock. (With the default Bakerloo consist being 7 cars its a perfect fit). Do you have the colour references for the basic BR Blue with Yellow ends to hand? I don't own IOW at the moment but, the next time a sale is on, I'm going to buy it to get Ryde Pier to play with (and maybe use as a source structure).

    Cheers, David.

    Last train of the day.
No 14 with its more swooshy cream livery, darker green driver's door and 100% green roof.

    Great work David!
BR Blue and BR Yellow. I'm sure others will disagree with my rendering of them, but here are my codes for them.
    Blue 195 85 31
    Yellow 47 76 76

    Have fun

Crikey this is proving far more difficult than I thought it would be. Trying to sort out my projections and layers has been a nightmare. (Even now it is still not right....hence a screenshot with a lot of shadows from the nearby trees on it to 'hide' the errors).

Anyway the first look at a possible VECTIS unit (hopefully the first of many). Added a few bits to the front end, yellow cab door and poor first attempt at the BR arrows. I must admit I don't like working with the dark blues / greys and blacks in livery editor. I can't see what's what against the black background of the editor screen.

I've never understood why the Livery editor cannot be custom lit. The dark side is way too dark for details. I often add bits in white and only colour them at the end. Or build everything on the light side and clone it to the other side.
Some time ago i got the BR arrow in a set from somewhere and was able to upload it as a .pak. I cannot use it on my models as it doesn't show up in Creators Club apparently, but I use it as a template and build the arrow from 5 blocks.

To be honest I assumed that there would be a settings section that would enable us to change the lighting in Livery editor that I didn't know about. So it's a bit disappointing to hear otherwise.

Yes I also 'build' in the wrong colour (on both sides) usually just to see where all of my errors are.

The BR arrow isn't that hard really.....well not when compared to the BR emblem. I discovered your post showing how you make that (esp the lion) and can't believe how complicated it is. You would have thought that that logo could be supplied in-game wouldn't you?

I'd completely forgotten about Free Roam as I practically never use it.
    Anyway, here's the fleet. :D

David, that is amazing work! Southend Pier would be proud of such a fleet! :D
It is a shame that since both the BR arrows and the Crest are in-game, that they are not available in the Livery editor. We need to start demanding it.

And then there were two :)
Unit 34 needs a bit more work on the sides with an Isle of Wight logo but that shouldn't be too difficult now.
I think I now need to try some weathering and see how I get on with that.

That's a very good point. I think I will post something about it today and see what happens. It can't be that difficult.

A few updates to the VECTIS units and a new arrival. (Unit 43 now running with Trailer 43 and it's 60th anniversary branding).

Now I need to try and find out if I can split the default 7 car formations and still keep my own liveries. Does anyone have any tips?

Can you split multiple units at all? (even when knowing that there is both a 4-car and 3-car in game behind the scenes). The last screenshot shows you can get the unit but how do you apply a livery?

Unit 45 coming out of the paintshop in a lovely new NSE livery.
(The sun has washed out the colours a little bit so I suspect I will be tweaking them quite a bit more).
Currently putting off trying to re-create the island logo that was on the cab of the real units.

Crikey. This is becoming a never-ending job :D
Mind you, if I can't split the IOW units up I'll never really be able to run them on the proper route anyway (unless I make a version of it myself of course).

I'm guessing you are referring to the darker blue Dave? It shouldn't be too difficult to get one of these in play.

In the meantime have a look at this 'strange' formation. Ryde works repainted two VECTIS trailers in to a heritage maroon livery, just before they were withdrawn, with the units going back to the LT museum on the mainland. They ran under their own power to Wimbledon. Not many pictures of this but I have seen one trailer with black doors and the other with slightly different lining (although it was claimed it was all-over maroon but I've seen a photo showing a bit of that trailer still with the cream band so who knows?). These 2 cars were sandwiched between NSE liveried cars.

Here is my approximation of that formation. Enjoy :)

Did someone say "Darker NSE Blue please"?

:D I think you've fallen down the Livery Editor rabbit hole! There is no way back now!
My personal preference is the darker shade of blue on the NSE livery. The last pic of the 3 variations is like an Open Day scene. :)

Having bought IOW in the sale it would be rude to not show some photos from a Summer evening at Ryde Pier Head when the VECTIS units ruled the roost and 7 car trains were the norm.
