Anyone else get an unreal engine crash on the 9:38 ormskirk blackpool south service just outside of preston just as you join the wcml?
this is the error i get LoginId:4ed59bda4e4637c0106b42b8e3a48cbe EpicAccountId: LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 208] Renaming an object (Texture2D /Engine/Transient.Texture2D_2147455289) on top of an existing object (Texture2D /PrestonBlackpool/Map/Tiles/ST_x11_y4.ST_x11_y4:PersistentLevel.BP_DSNT_SmallDisplayBoard6.DynamicDisplayBoard.DisplayBoard_LayoutTexture) is not allowed
All the more reason not to buy routes on day 1. I'll sit back and wait for the patch, it'll make a nice Xmas day afternoon purchase!.
Hi Simon, fancy seeing you here! I've seen the same error message in a crash on West Cornwall at St Erth but couldn't reproduce it when I played it again. Bit random.
Good morning townsend_simon, Can I confirm the game platform you're using please, and can I also check you're not using any modded content as you're on a PC platform. I will also share through our support guide regarding Troubleshooting & General Crashes: (Direct link: https://dovetailgames.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/80000896131)
Hey Alex, Windows 11 Ryzen 7 3800xt 48 Gb Ram RTX3070ti 12gb No modded content as this is a fresh install after my upgrade from TSW 3 Hey bescot longtime no speak, been lurking here for a long time....still on the other forum but only to keep my blog up as most of my time is spent battering 45149 and 26043 into submission.
In this case, can I ask you to submit a ticket to our support site with that same information, it will help us track your issue and report directly to you He's our support page where you can create a ticket and add relevant information: https://dovetailgames.freshdesk.com/support/home
I haven't any issues with what I have played so far, I will give this one a try tonight and see what happens.
Just unlocked all Masteries, no issues here with the route. Win10 intel+nvidia. No 3rd party AV scammers (pun intended).
There's definitely an issue with this. Reported in the feedback thread, approaching Preston from the Ormskirk direction I had what is best described as a terminal PC crash (i.e. more severe than CTD). Black screen and buzzing from the speakers. Couldn't Esc or Ctrl-Alt-Del out of it, had to hard reboot PC on the case. Windows then reloaded but showed as repairing files. Obviously not affecting everyone but if running into Preston is a no go area, then it makes the route somewhat unplayable. JT (or DTG) - we need an answer on this fairly quickly as, didn't think I would hear me say this, if the problem can't be identified or a fix enabled then I'm going to have to very reluctantly consider refunding.
If Windows is repairing files then you’ve got something else going on there. That isn’t the game causing a crash like that.
As I posted in the other thread... If it was just me, then yes. But other people have reported the same issue at the same location (approaching Preston). So sounds more like a rogue or corrupt tile or object is causing the sim to crash, with varying symptoms according to particular configuration. As a precaution I looked in the case and no contamination with fluff or hair. Besides, TSW has never crashed out like that before, in fact it has always been stable compared to TSC with its not uncommon OOM crashes. And after my reboot I spent 30 or so minutes in Snowrunner which if anything is more demanding than TSW - not a problem. So I hate to say it, but the finger points squarely at something in this particular route which isn't doing what it should.
If there is an actual faulty object at the build level in the route then that ain't going to help, though will do it anyway. The catch being if I re-run the scenario and the problem occurs again, I've gone over two hours in the sim and will be unable to get a refund. So I'm going to sit tight for a day or two see if anyone else reports the problem and what comes back from JT/DTG about it and make an informed decision accordingly.
Hey OldVern, long shot but are you the vern from the crotrains days? anyway, i ran the same service again last night and it seemed to run ok, so i wondered for me if it was a one off?
That's me Simon! Long time ago and of course sadly Barney is no longer with us. Often wonder what he would have made of the contemporary train sim scene though latterly he largely confined himself to doing stuff in Trainz.
So just as an update it seems like we've managed to find a lead as we've had a couple of crash logs from others point to the same thing. Might take a while to understand exactly what's going on but hopefully we can get somewhere now. Will keep you informed but this isn't causing a full PC hang.
Also bare in mind this doesn't seem to be a common crash and only occurs once in a blue moon it seems hence why it hasn't been discovered yet.
I had noticed that from certain angles (almost exclusively viewed from behind) the exhaust can cause quite an fps drop. Could it be a number of 142’s in the same station are causing a GPU overload?
I can’t say I’ve noticed it (maybe in the very early days) but it is certainly a thing with the 142. I don’t have a problem with it, and certainly wouldn’t want any of the visual quality downgrading, but I did wonder if it might be a pointer as to why Preston seems to be so heavy on performance for some people.
Just saw Dad Rail live charity stream and right as he was getting to black pool south, right next to the roller coaster, the game crashed. I think it happened while he was attempting to go on photo mode to take a look at the roller coaster.
Oh dear... Well I might hold off on reinstalling/rebuying later. Shame what is potentially such a great route is starting to have these issues.
I'm getting CTD's everytime I try to load one of the Pacer services. Yeah just seen that, a bit unfortunate as he nearly got to Blackpool South, he was in external view and cam was just above the pacer roof so maybe due to the smoke particles?
I think its highly unlikely to be the smoke particles, they're the exact same emitters as used on virtually ever diesel since CSX, there is nothing out of the ordinary with them.
To be fair, Dad Rail’s PC appears to have been struggling from the very start on ECML and by the time he was at the back end of the BPO run it was already a slideshow. I think some people are just expecting too much of their hardware to be honest.
I'm in PS5 but get a crash entering Photo Mode farily often on any route so it may well not be JT's fault. I always make sure I do a tactical save just before I try and take a picture now!
Well, I decided to take JT at their word about the forthcoming patch and purchased the route. Have been driving around in the 142 and 47 and pretty much covered the entire route. No problems with gameplay and I agree with others that it's a high-quality route. The only thing missing for me is Raildriver compatibility and I'm trusting JT to solve that problem shortly. It's more difficult driving for me using mouse and keyboard. Other than that, I'm not having much in the way of stutters or hitching, good frame rates and certainly no crashing. Looking good so far.
Re purchased the route and resumed the run in question. Despite a helluva lot of hitching and Windows Update downloading in the background, was able to successfully arrive at Preston and complete the run. Go figure. The only thing which was different this time was that I ran a little later than before and didn't see a Peak hauled service pass on the WCML just after Farington Jn. Going to one of those one off or random problems which is very hard to track down, I guess.
Welcome back Vern, glad to hear that! Windows update? Might interfere with shader compilation / Denuvo stuff....
Well it certainly seems to hog the HD if the case light is anything to go by, so possibly affects the efficiency of the swap file. Unfortunately there’s no real way of avoiding it running as 90% of my time on the main PC is gaming and it tends to just start stealth downloading in the background. Could easily have been grabbing data for a couple of days as it looked to be a fairly lengthy update this time around.
Windows update is really bugging me too, it is exactly that, stealthy. It doesn't tell you it is doing anything but suddenly 3gb of space has gone and everything is chugging along. It really needs to be more upfront about what is going on rather than trying to be always busy doing something in the background.
You can configure Windows Update, set an amount of days where no updates should be installed, define your working hours where interference is not wanted...
I’m sure I did that at one stage or at least selected an option where it didn’t take priority over running programmes but now it just seems MS want to take over your PC once a month. Anyhow fingers crossed I have had no more trouble after a further hour or so running the route, just the odd hitch which is probably core related.
So interestingly old vern.... I had the crash when I saw the peak when I approached the junction later than normal, and it sounds like you did as well, when I re ran I was closer to time....and it was fine.
I set the windows update so that I manually check for updates. I had the game crash with the peak at Blackpool North, I was sitting in the cab and by mistake when setting up pressed the engine stop button, after another minute later it crashed.
Interesting. Could there be an issue with the Peak, then? JT Benedict sorry to tag but maybe worthy of investigation as a common factor, assuming we exclude external possibilities such as Windows Update interfering with the data flow.
Will have to be one to look into, they're not the most common spawners but it's definitely something to investigate.
So, got the update and it still crashes for me on every service I try with the Pacer. Please look into this JT.
