Can the 642 be used on any other route?

Are there any unique features on the 642?

    Here are my questions:

How did you source the sounds for the DB BR 642? Did you re-use sounds from other units (DB BR 612/DB BR 628) or are the sounds acquired by the real thing?

How involved was TSG in this project compared to previous projects you have worked on?

They said sounds are from the real thing. Even showed a picture in one of the streams i believe.

That's fair, there's nothing better than real recordings from the real train :)

    • Why does the BR 204 not substitute/layer - even though Aschaffenberg is its in-game home?
    • Why is the 363 yet again blue? It was cute once, but now it's just an annoying anachronism

I'm trying to pre-purchase this new route, but Steam won't let me!

    upload_2023-11-17_10-35-34.png

I have tried -- multiple times -- to follow these instructions, but my purchase is still blocked. I have re-booted my computer, restarted Steam, etc. Nothing works.

    What's up?

Why isn't there at least one new freight car?
Do you want to understand that we need more variety?
A single boxcar (for each new route) doesn't seem like an insurmountable job to me.

Will we see the 642 in Dresden and Chemnitz, given it's a common sight there in real life?

oh yeah right you said you followed the steps. well maybe you need to update your payment method but I am sure Steam would've told you that in a different way. idk what else to give you as a solution, other than wait and try every day until November 28th since that when the 10% off offer ends I believe.

    - Can you show us a bit of the port branches in Aschaffenburg in the upcoming stream?
    - Will the 642 have any unique new features like for example passenger announcements like Just Trains did in the Blackpool Branches DLC?
    - Will the route get layers (asking specifically for drivable trains, non-AI) from other german DLCs?
    - Can the 642 be layered to other route DLCs?

Here the route map as reference:

The route isn't that long with about 37 km and has only 13 stations (excluding the Glanzstoffwerke). But the port area could be an interesting spot to look at. I hope we can see some ships and transport cargo next to them.

While your problem is related to the route,

Could you please bring this issue to the corresponding Troubleshooting Forum, where it is on-topic? Or create a new thread for it in the main Discussion Forum to get help from others.

This thread was posted for questions for the team to address during the upcoming Maintalbahn Livestream, and your posts + the answers you got from others have nothing to do with it.

Your problem is also high probably caused by Steam and might even be out of the responsibilty spectrum of Dovetail Games. I would contact Steam support as first step before even reaching out to DTG.

Please also consider to delete your posts to give the space free for the questions and posts which are on-topic here.

Is there any chance you could provide screen shots of station track plans on this thread? These are useful in planning services in free roam and scenario planner. In particular, which stations have goods yards and passing loops?

I do think the scenery needs improvement. The trees in the screenshot are identical cut and paste efforts. Some of the buildings have been used on many routes before - one I recognise from Leicester (!) and others are from Munich and Hamburg. This makes it all look very generic.

Developers have upped our expectations with Niddertalbahn and Blackpool. Recycled scenery content won't cut it anymore.

Have you re-worked the Aschaffenburg dock basins so they now have vertical walls to allow the ships/ barges to dock properly?
Will the 642 layer in to the existing MSB route?

Why the 363 again and not something new like a 212?
Will the 642 have correct physics unlike its TSC counterpart which has very simplified and arcade like performance?

Please give me a good reason why a user with casual interest in German railways should spend £24.99 on a fairly short low speed route (which I never previously heard of) with bus stop diesel service, when we already have the similar Niddertalbahn and hot on the heels of the high quality BPO release? Not to mention competition next week from the big (free) SimRail core and content update and the likelihood of the Autumn Steam sale discounting TSW, TSC and other stuff.

The point is, it should be red. DB stopped painting its engines blue in 1987.

    (can't make a joke smh)
yeah I get the point, I don't like when they just copy the same loco across multiple routes, maybe just keep it one and make it substitute on other routes where it should drive aswell? but it is what it is. a little bit of red would be nice though, I agree.

But private operators have lots of ex-DB locos in different Bundesbahn liveries. It's a little odd, but it's not wrong.

seriously? honestly what's so bad about it? you can just ignore the loco, no? the 642 is the main attraction anyways so who cares about the 363 :D

Because I already own enough of them. It's "part" of the route. A single train, on a short single track route for £24.99?
After the ammount of content JT just released for £29.99?
The least DTG could do is give the 363 a polish up and a new livery, it's just bad value currently.

I'm my head thinking from a development perspective a route this size I think should have a higher level of detail. Obviously all routes should be detailed but wouldn't it be easier? Since it's small they'd have more time to flesh it out.

That's not even close to being a substitute of an official skin. You can't make anywhere near the same level of detail in LD as you can in a properly made external skin.

is the 204 implemented on this DLC and if not why not as it's the only unit we can use to get down to the docks on the adjoining route

Have a look at the Silberlinge by solicitr. The small writing always ends up a bit smudged on LD liveries but the details on those are amazing!

The issue with livery designer is that you can't control what appears where and how often which is why the intercity 47 livery is so great, its got such a low chance of showing up on the route and adds more variety.

In my opinion offering custom made community liveries shouldn't be enough for people to excuse the developers from re releasing the same loco in the same livery again when others are available. I understand in some ways licensing can be difficult but JT still made some good entries on the pacer even though licensing held them back in some areas :)

    This.
You also can't set specific LD liveries in a new timetable for example. I'm currently making a timetable, and I would love the HST in Intercity livery. But I can't ensure it spawns as that 100% of the time, and having it show up in GWR, or EMT livery would ruin the timetable.

Have the physics on the Roos-t wagons been updated to the same standards as those included with Dresden-Riesa, Bremen-Oldenburg etc.?

Exactly my two main questions as well!

As the layer for the br193 and br185 are confirmed I would ask a bit more specific for substitution for those two AI locos. Or will I never encounter a br182 @Aschaffenburg?

A physics update for the Roos-t I would assume as a given (considering, in my limited understanding of route building, that there should have been enough room for this in the business case for this rather slim DLC…), however, would also like a confirmation on this as well.

  47. Are there any Easter Eggs or talking NPCs or puzzles?
Yes we all love DTG to focus on the route, but sometimes a few easter eggs and puzzles would be brilliant.

I know we can't walk into towns and explore, and it is probably wayyyyyy too late to do here.

Love the music in the new teaser ad.

    Sounds similar to this

Wonder if you can some NPCs sitting outside a pub in Germany playing this kind of music? I know it's a big ask.... I'm not expecting it to happen.

    It would be fun though.

I did like the disappearing signals in Niddletalbahn scenario. Was that scenario suggesting anything in future?

I guess DTG wants to put a contrast to the standard german DB livery commonly in Red for commuters and regional traffic.

However, I would say blue 363 are rather uncommon.

And why not simply provide 2 colored liveries for it? I mean it even is exactly the same livery (no new graphical elements, logos, integers etc.), just the main color is different.

Don't think a color change would be a big license break with DB.

I love eastereggs too. However, the DTG already has issues with providing us essential features for a true immersion. (In my case, I really miss passenger announcements). They better should focus on the improvement of the game, than anything beside.

Would love to do that, too. But probably, will never happen. Again, better focus on improving the main game.

Aschaffenburg and its surrounding area, while being on the top west border of Bavaria to the state Hessen, is actually not a place where this kind of music is practiced commonly. This folk music usually is more home in the southern part of Bavaria and the Alpine regions of Austria and Switzerland.

It's a common misunderstanding that all germans would wear traditional clothes and make music like the people around the Alps and at the Oktoberfest like that:

It's just regional to the very south.

Therefore seeing a folk music band like that in Aschaffenburg up to Miltenberg would be very unusual.

But a good idea for a future route from Germany to Austria / or the upcoming austrian route!
