I was interested in helping you out, because I also had a plan about making a route in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Now I don't know if you're german, and had problems to find it because of the language, but I actually found the place where the government of MV offers the DGM (Digitales Geländemodell).

    https://www.laiv-mv.de/Geoinformation/Geobasisdaten/Gelaendemodelle/

However, and after reading through the website and the attached PDF, it turned out that there they offer Lidar data, but unfortunately it's one of those place where they don't offer it for free. You have to pay ridiculously high prices to get that Lidar data, reaching from 80 € per km² for DGM1 resolution to 4€ per km² for DGM25 resolution.:(

Paying for the DGM25 resolution makes less sense, since the resolution has almost no signficant improvement to the free SRTM data. So, I guess you have to go just with the 30 Meter resolution SRTM (.hgt) data for it.

It's not that exact as high resolution Lidar data, but it's okay to place tracks on it. I currently working on a route for which for the most part have to use SRTM data.

Germany was slow in translating EU law into local law. According to the European open data regulation, stuff like GoeData has to be free for everyone, however, only a very limited numer of German counties have managed so far.

It is my understanding that there is a deadline until some time second half 2024 until when Lidar data should be freely accessible for everybody everywhere in Germany.

    Thank you
And yes, it's TOO expensive to build yourself.
    And yes, I am German
