Hi, Just a small question here regarding the Class 142 Loco. When I select the Blackpool route and then select the 142 I notice we are then given a list of 142's over on the right side, I can see we have BLUE, ORANGE and even a BROWN ones, but question I would like to ask is what is the differance with these locos? I can also see one called SKIPPER what again is the differance with this one and the rest. Oh yes I can see we have date period which I think when these were in operation.

The difference is in the engine and gearboxes
Engine 1 is the Leyland T211 engines with RRE5 self changing gears gearbox
Engine 2 is Leyland t211R engines with voith gearbox
Engine 3 voith gearbox and Cummins engine
These different options reflect the different setups the class 142 actually used
The Leyland engines were actually used in Leyland National buses as well hope this explanation helps you

    The names are the liveries,
Skipper, I believe, was down on the WCL
GMTE or whatever (Orange) is the greater manchester one and then the provincial is the common blue one.

Nothing major I believe, the years indicate the engine/ gearbox setups

Thanks, It's just seems strange that DTG give us 10 locos but with no info on what they are etc, Like what you mention regarding the engines installed.

Passenger seat colour changes depending on livery also.

First off it were JT and second of all they did say about the different liveries and engines such as here in the official release article:

Yes I know JT did this DLC but DTG run TSW, and for us small mortals and not train spec savvy and might have missed what you say in the official release article. It would be nice to have a small description when hovering over a certain engine on it's spec's etc. And what that image states does not mean a thing to me and then which engine does that list refer to.? But then it's like a lot of things in TSW they give you a list of options in settings but don't tell you what they do

I mean you are playing a simulator and there is a certain expectation that you’d have at least a passing knowledge in the subject matter.

That said the liveries do have an indication of a very simplified spec. They are all annotated with a date range. Each date refers to when that particular unit was in use.

If you can go to the effort of making posts on the forums, I struggle to understand why you couldn’t read the related article for the route.

If you don’t want to do that, Wikipedia is also of use, JT have documented the differences of each model both in Video & Text form, in game there is also a clear way to differentiate between each model.

You make it very hard for people to want to explain things to you when you are only combative in your replies, which is what you’ll get in return.

I see where you could struggle with that but seems to be a core game gap for TSW4 in general, I believe TSW founders edition used to give players more info on each train but I can’t remember exactly if that was engine type also.

In the meantime best to learn what year matches up to which engine if it’s something you’re for.

T211r is the model of the Voith transmission, the Leyland engine is a TL11.

I noticed there was an error in the numbering for the TL11 & SCG as I spotted 142050 come in to Preston on a service for Blackpool North while over on the parcels platform, knowing this one was the only one built with Voith T211r and never to have been equipped with an SCG box (hence why the unit IRL was missing the gearbox EP valve box underneath) I rushed over to get it thinking it would have the Leyland TL11 & Voith combination but it had an SCG RRE5. Somehow 142050 managed to sneak on the Provincial Leyland/SCG unit numbering list.

Yep the route was worked for 18 months by variety of people and although DTG helped it’s a just trains product i have to say it’s spot on and I know some people complained about the og engine sounds but given the og engines were umpteen decades ago just trains have smashed it to get the work done they have and from experience of driving actual class 142 as well as in game it’s spot on the actual class 142 pacer hope you having fun with Blackpool route
