I know that, what was the intention of the original release? Was this a general update or was it only for certain DLC?
There is, but it's quite technical. You need to manipulate the appmanifest_24010.acf file, replacing the "buildid" with the current one, set the StateFlags to "4" and if present remove the line that says Full Verification (or so, it's not in my file so I can't tell exactly how it's spelled). It may also be necessary to clear Steam's download cache incase a download has already started to steamapps\downloading\24010 and steamapps\temp\24010. If a DLC gets updated, it's a bit more complicated, as updating manifestIDs is then required to make Steam think you're up to date. But, as the update has been rolled back, there should be nothing happening if you click the "Update" button - it may just do what I've described above automatically - updating your manifest file. No guarantee though. The way I've setup my installation any changes will only happen to my dummy Steam installation (core+Academy only), so there's nothing that can go wrong on my end - I've made that sure. DTG Jamie Please inform your customers before pushing out any update in the future!
Thank you for the response clicked the update button and all is good. I do really wish that DTG would advise us at least one day in advance of a pending update so we know what to expect. I can understand all who were affected by this update were not happy.
I would echo the request to let us know in advance when there will be updates. At least it would allow people to make sure their backup is totally up to date. Given what happened yesterday it might also be nice to provide an FAQ on how to do a backup as it still seems a lot of people either can’t or won’t do it.
Well, it's not that hard to copy your RailWorks folder to another location. Or use the Steam Backup function...
We both know that, but judging by some of the responses yesterday, there are many that don’t. I personally don’t understand why anyone doesn’t back up things that are important to them but seems that some think their SSD’s are invincible:
We weren’t aware an update was going out, trying to find out what has happened and how. But should be all reverted now.
SteamDB says that the bogus update changed something with the DLC list, pointing at empty ones. So to speak. There were also three depot updates - one for Suburban Glasgow extension, and two for content clouded by names like File1, File2, judging by the size they are a route and a train. (The latter could also be a classic asset route.) The joke: it must be a killer route! The irony: I suppose this is for testing / preparation purposes.
I still have an update queing, why is that? If it was rolled back, then I should not have an update, yet Steam says I have one. Can someone explain? I did not install the update that deleted everything...
Clear your Steam download cache. Steam, Steam Settings, Downloads. You can always quick protect your Railworkks folder by temporally renaming to Railworks_save or any other name you wish. You can still play if you create a shortcut to Railworks.exe, or Railworks64.exe, or the DX12 version and put it on your desktop.
Clearing download chache had not helped by me. And I had only a 24010 in the temp-folder and in ."..\steamapps\ ". In that another manifest was included. Have deleted that in temp. Now steam shows no update for TS. Note UPDATE: its there again This whole stuff is a good example why Steam should add an option that allows to start a game without any update-force. But something like that can obviously be forgotten in today's times (see "MS Windows"). Seems mor eimportant to bring data to users at all time they want (and what data they want)
According to DTG they don't even know why this update went out. No updates were scheduled on their end. So there are no update notes for the intended update. Curiouser and curiouser according to Alice. Explain that to the company CEO.
which i find strange as surley you have to send the update to steam for them to put on the servers and download. Out of ALL the games and software on steam and only 1 game out the whole catalouge had a rouge update. Yeah i find that strange
While yes DTG did a good job correcting the issue and sending out an update to revert the severely flawed first one, we all deserve answers and a detailed explanation as to what actually happened and how this was even able to occur in the first place. The fact that DTG had no update scheduled at all and had no idea it even happened is a major red flag and highly suspicious that needs to be addressed and we deserve to know why.
