Steam Class 47 Buggy

Discussion in 'TSW Troubleshooting & Issues Discussion' started by SD40Australia, Nov 24, 2023.

  1. In free roam the Class 47 is hard to set up.

What I mean is the locomotive brake doesn't come off. (get the blue alarm light)

Have to reset the sim physics and finally get it going.

Not sure if the process needs to release the brake first BEFORE turning master key ON?

    It is bugged anyway.

When starting in Blackpool route in a timetable it works fine.

You need to turn on the AWS on the back wall to enable brake release.

  3. When I did that it wouldn't release. I left it alone and released the train brake first after resetting sim physics then it worked.

In Northern TransPenine AND Blackpool, the Class 47 works fine on a timetable.

Yes, several of the older locos (and even some of the newer ones) spawn with glitched physics state in Free Roam. In the case of the 47, the glitch is in the AWS system state, which causes it to be "inactive" but with the emergency vent valve open.

To turn AWS on with a "classic" UK diesel, you need to swing both the "isolate" lever (mapped to Ctrl-Enter) and the "change end" lever (no key mapping AFAIK). It should then go through the self-test, sounding the warning horn and clearing the sunflower; you press the acknowledge button and it should ring the bell and set the sunflower. Then you can release the brakes.

  5. Thank you for your suggestion.

I'll try that (is one the DSD isolation lever?) but everytime I did that on free roam the brake cylinder (on locomotive ie independent brake) does not release.

The way I got it to to work was release train brake FIRST before touching ANYTHING else and not touching the AWS/safety systems.

I'll double-check for each of the classic diesels, once I'm done running the Preston Docker…

  7. I went onto latest TSW4 route Doncaster and spawned a Class 47.

I had to reset brake/simulation physics to get the Brake Cylinder to release.

I didn't touch any safety system. I don't believe the safety system has any part to play in the fault/bug.

But the problem is precisely that the AWS system starts up in a glitched state, where it should be inactive but is actually both active and triggered. If you go through the steps I listed above, the 47 will release its brakes without needing a physics reset.

The 20, 31, 33, 37, 40, and 45 don't have this problem. The 47/4 from NTP, as well as the modified one from JT, do. I haven't checked the old green 47 from WSR.

There is no DSD isolation switch modelled on these locos. Instead, the DSD is automatically pressed when you sit in the driver's seat, and is released when you get up - and there is no vigilance device, either. When the reverser is in Forward or Reverse (but not in Off or Neutral), the brakes should automatically apply after a few seconds if you get out of your seat. (On the 37 and 47, this doesn't seem to happen. Sigh.)
