Hi, I was wondering how I can build my route (Hannover - Hamburg) without importing Lidar data. What would I need to do instead to have a surface to place tracks on and build train stations. Right now, I have the grey surface with the google maps layover. Thanks!
Hi Trainspotting Norden , There ist no lidar Data for MV (Germany) aswell. But there is the chance to import 30m SRTM data from NASA instead. All you need is to follow the video tutorial for LIDAR in the Tutorial Thread, which is pinned. To ensure, that the tracks have the right hight and gradients, I'm using a mixture of Google Earth Pro, the Geoviewer from DB Netz AG (soon DB InfraGO AG) and cab view videos on YT. If you need more information / help, pls contact me via DM.
You can just skip the LIDAR step and work with the generated SRTM tiles straight away. No extra steps required. Also if you haven't already, I think you should really watch the training stream.
Lidar is "just" the high resolution. If you don't have Lidar available for your area or for whatever other reason you can't or won't use it, simply use the SRTM data (.hgt) files. These contain the low resolution landscape information and provide a raw but solid base for the real landscape.
QGIS has a plugin which you need to enable called SRTM downloader, with which you can download the SRTM files within the software if you also create a free NASA account to access their database.
If you load in the SRTM files before creating landscape tiles, they will be generated with the heightmap applied. As simple as that.
Oder ich habs mal eben für dich gemacht ;-) (Or I just made it for you): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1o6YXRXpgqjREXRspDkDzSt4SGrEcW5RB?usp=sharing These are the 6 .hgt (SRTM) files for the route Hamburg-Hannover. Download them and import them directly in the Editor. But very, very important: Please follow the instructions of any tutorial closely. If not, you will not succeed to create any route because more hurdles will come and you will only come over, when you're ready to study the learning material properly. And even then, things will happen which are not documentated to help you and require more work from your sid to solve the problem.
Yeah that. And start with the livestream posted above. I know it's long but things usually aren't just about knowing which button to click but also about knowing the essential concepts.
Were these flat tiles already generated? In that case, you will have to delete them in order to make new ones in their place. If you haven't done any route-building work yet, I would just delete the Tiles folder and go from there.
Even after re-loading the map? I mean you shouldn't even be able to delete them while they are loaded but I'm just asking.
