I noticed that SimRail did take a long pause recently to upgrade their game engine. For free. Their developers must be starving given the arguments of DTG defenders. Also if you want a chuckle, look at the number one review of SimRail on Steam :D

It basically is without the label on it. I believe someone at DTG mentioned they don't like the Early Access method, yet they're basically following that model without the label. Hence, expect more frustrated customers.

They don't like the Early Access model because in early access stuff are actually getting fixed, lol.

Early access implies it gets fixed or improved and that the devs are listening to what is effectively a pay to beta test experience.

Sadly in the case of the core and much of the DLC, seems this doesn't apply here.

Well there are certainly a few early access titles that hardly ever made it out of early access and were abandoned fairly early on. They tend to have a bad name and have people ranting on their discussion boards about the lack of fixes. So...

In this case you are correct. I think I've mentioned in the past that this game could sorely use an Early Access program that is truly community / dev collaborative. There are many smart people with deep knowledge that could provide valuable feedback and others that have technical knowledge of UE that could help as well. The way it's set up now, you basically pay full price to beta test yet the issues barely ever get ironed out.

Correct. And that's down to the developer's own choices. If they wanted to they could complete their projects. But to say Early Access is bad because of some bad apples out there makes no sense. If a completely unrelated game abused or didn't complete the early Access stage doesn't mean another developer will follow suit. And I don't see Early Access as having a bad reputation overall because of some devs. SimRail is in early Access and continues to improve. They're doing it the right way.

Agreed. Without Early Access funding many games would've probably never seen the light of day.

Google it. People aren’t generally here complaining about the way DTG operates for the sake of it. This is a long standing history of ropey products, poor business practices and very variable levels of competence that many people have had their fill of.

They started to develop an improved version of FSX sold it as early access with no jet aircraft and many incomplete features. It was subsequently declared out of early access and not long after pulled from sale still in an incomplete state. It even got exhibited at one of the flight sim conventions - all the other developers sent programmers or experts in aviation, DTG sent one of the marketing team who was completely out of their depth once the technical questions started coming in.

Essentially they took our money and we got sweet fanny adams in return.

DTG needs to make a game about trains, along the lines of Euro truck sim.

Start with a map of Britain, on a reduced scale, arrange cities, stations. Give the player a choice of freight or passenger transportation. Then create dlc in the form of individual countries.

That's it, that's the recipe, people just want to drive a train from one city to another. You can get a very large player base, not hardcore fans, leave TSW and TC to them.

That would help them make money, maybe hire more specialists then?

    P.S
I would not mind to play such a game myself, it's a pity the publisher abandoned Train Life, I left 100 hours there :D

I don't think train sims can work in the ways that truck sims work, People want to drive routes that are full length and to real scale of their respective routes

While Train Life is a fun diversion for what it is, if you want any semblance of realism you do not want Train Life

Agreed. There is nothing wrong with the current formula, things just require more effort. Make routes a bit longer where it makes sense (don't stop at 80% of the way), include more liveries and AI only stock to prevent routes from feeling empty and dead, and focus more on general polish and bugfixing. I do believe the more sales from releasing a better product would compensate for the extra resources put into the route creation.

I really don't see why they don't use the same model as TSC - well, I do see, but I am guessing the income is similar. I just purchased this morning two more routes and one more loco for TSC, about $50 USD, in the sale.

Simply out of incompetence, I would guess.

TSC was originally created by different developers than the current team at DTG, and while I wouldn't want to hurt anyones feelings, I do feel like the current team is much less competent in software development than the Kuju team was. They could keep TSC alive after taking over because it was already finished. They then developed TSW from scratch, and I do believe they wanted to continue the TSC model with TSW as well. But TSW was full of issues that were apparently too difficult to fix without breaking existing content, so it was easier releasing it as a separate entity instead. Then it took them who knows how many months to port most TSW routes into TSW2.

So my point is, I do believe TSW2 only exists because the original TSW was badly made. Then they simply adapted to this new model because they saw the potential in selling the same game over and over again. Also this way it is easier to brush issues with old content under the rug. And since they can't be bothered to work out the technical details of route extensions properly, this also gives them the chance to do stuff like SEHS -> SEHS Extended, where they can sell it with the "new" game - because obviously they wouldn't want to give it away as a free update, but they also don't know how to make a route extension a proper paid DLC.

I’ve been playing Blackpool over the past few weeks which has been frankly brilliant. Then, last week I saw the Derbyshire route was on offer so thought I’d pick it up! Whilst it’s fine, the difference between that route and JT’s FIRST offering is remarkable in my eyes. JT have managed to make their first route one that is up there as possibly the best route in the game. A living, breathing route full of detail. Whilst there are of course things here and there to patch, it shows that it is possible to create routes of high quality and those that have been created with care, it just seems impossible for DTG to bring out a route that isn’t somewhat flawed at launch.

Or even in Forza Horizon 3/4/5... How a game based on cars have such nicely modeled and blended in the ground tracks but TSW don't :( 47527851952_d9fa0f7db2_b.jpg

Not sure about the trains in FH4 but I know they swapped the liveries on the buses and trams, because they didn't have deals in place with either operating company, first thing I noticed when playing it as I was like "Why's that tram in Lothian buses colours?".

if it's scheduled for 12 Dec, I doubt it will come out in 2023. However, I doubted there would be any TSW3 updates too!

I really do rest my case because It looks like it's taken barely a month for normal service to be resumed within TSW.
The passion and dedication displayed by Just Trains is completely wasted on this product.

Yeah, "whining" and "complaining", sure. Just because you are incapable of rational thinking and separation of personal and other views and opinions doesn't make it right, you are free to love and enjoy DTGs doings but if you cannot handle it emotionally then stop white knighting on public discussions.

DTG or whoever runs this mess needs to start listening to their community, I AM NOT SPEAKING FOR EVERYONE however i would love longer more detailed routes where you can actually complete full services instead of dropping it halfway at a random stop, something non linear with a bunch of branch lines (BML is extremely linear with the only branch being 1 stop to reigate)
Id love to see them put more effort into the trains for example train variants such as 465/9 & 466 or first gen 377 variants and 375 ones. I just feel as if DTG half heartedly complete their routes with minimal detail and recyled stock. Add more routes and trains that people are asking for in suggestions i doubt they even read them they are just there for the soul purpose of them being able to say they have it

A lot of routes actually end somewhere reasonable. The majority DO NOT want to drive 2 hour long commuter runs.

It takes time and effort for too little gain to make different variants of the same train, espwcially for the dame route.

Suggestions are just that, suggestions. DTG are not obliged to create those routes.

the longer the more detailed the better every time for me (crazy to ask for the opposite :D) but aiming to bring different variants of the same train should either come with that loco from the start kinda like the class 142 or a different route, I don’t see much gain at all in making far too similar trains and possibly selling them at full loco addon price, I doubt I would be too interested personally for such addons.

edit: might be an alright idea for those little £5 packs they do but not if it’s too much effort for little gain.

Tell that to the Hmmsim Metro devs, as their game includes 6 playable trains and 4 different AI only trains (some of which will be being updated to be driveable by the player). Of course, TSW rolling stock tends to be a bit more detailed than the Hmmsim Metro trains, but the full game is also cheaper than a single TSW add-on.

Or tell that to Just Trains, who included 3 different liveries of the Pacer with different engine+transmission configurations on their route. If it were DTG or Rivet, we would be getting the excuse of "it is basically an entirely new train from the ground up, it's too much work".

That's precisely my point, it's not worth it in DTG's eyes... unless they sell it as a "gameplay pack", which sounds ridiculous when said out loud.
