The way TSC was released each year a package of routes was released along with that years game.
Unlike TSW each years release of Treain Simulator 20xx was just an update of the core engine with 3 or 4 routes.

When the next sale is on you will be able to pick up the routes you want and just add-them to your game
Everything in TSC is compatible even if it was released years ago.

I have add-ons from TSW & TSW2 and I don't know if they would work with later versions.

Depends what you mean by "work"

The only content not available to TSW2 and beyond is the original NEC route and the GP40-2 DLC for them.

However, overtime older routes get broken and DTG never bothered to fix them. There was the preservation team that was porting TSW routes to TSW2. But they no longer exist.

Alot of the older locos also don't work with TSW4s Free roam mode (Though this was known with anyone who used Godmode on TSW3) So, so much for a new feature that doesn't work with all your existing content.

    There you go :)

DLC for each big franchise - Train Sim Classic, Train Sim World - is separate. Think of them like different games.
Not only are there unique offerings, but with identical ones, owners of either don't get the other. Long story.

First two are modded, rest are vanilla. The busy ones are the 2018 Portsmouth Direct Line.
People tend to exaggerate how TSC is terrible but X is a miracle. There is truth in that, particularly for early content.
Newer routes are generally of better quality, but the release date can be misleading.
Some people only enjoy photorealism while others appreciate art. And while I don't get it with TSC, I am an absolute snob with music.

If you are looking for inspiration, browse and follow some screenshot threads, and if anything catches your eye, ask the author what it is. Sometimes I note diligently, recently not so much.

There is nothing stopping you owning and enjoying both!

If you just want to drive and ride, maybe TSW is best for you. If you want a railway themed modelling and simulation hobby then TSC will be better for you.

Oh, I understand now. Thanks for explaining. :)

Well, I can see art and beauty in both games. Just happens that TSC is starting to catch my eyes in many ways, including the modding. Even the vanilla game is looking promising to me.

I am just having a lot of trouble here trying to make Reshade to work. :(

It seems it is working, but in other hand it seems not. I have its logs inside the game's folder, etc, etc, but no effects and menu while in game. Continuing the work. :D

Sure, I am just doing that! :)

And I saw that TSC has a more "realistic" control setting, which I have already activated. I also got to totally drive an electric train there using only what I learn through TSW4.

Do you have a different definition of "work"?

The DLC I have in any game either works as it should and is playable or it does not work at all.

I have no idea if the DLC I purchased for TSW/TSW2 would work - ie is playable - in TSW4
Otherwise I have wasted my money on the game

That's the fun part, you don't know, you may pick a service that has an infinite red signal at the end, or one that works fine.

He's being sarcastic (even though it happens far too often in TSW, it can get very annoying).
