Ooft. Okay then. It was more a joke from my friends. Surprised it even got this many votes! But yes, even so it's unlikely the government will ever say yes to it. It's cool to see the figures and how many people are for it or not all the same.

    Regardless it's nothing.
Trainspotters/Railfans are an incredibly small minority of the population. Why the country would stop because of a big metal box that moves, I haven't a clue.

Because I'm a realist and the idea of a public holiday for a metal box (that's all a 37 is) is utter ludicrous designed only to serve a small minority - not even the whole railway community - and would be downright stupid of the government, by their standards.
Bank Holidays are reserved for important events, e.g. Religious/Cultural dates, New Year, or as a marker of a historical event. I refer to bank holidays because they're what the government control.

If anyone wants to start a petition for a new bank holiday, so it for something important, like VE Day, or 11/11, or in memory of victims of terror, something that matters.

The 37 fleet does not matter.
A public holiday for them is a mind-numbing suggestion and I sincerely hope whoever made the petition did it in jest - or under the influence - and doesn't stand by it.

    What a silly petition, I can't believe a bank holiday for a class 37. It should be a class 104. ;)

IMO. Life is too short to worry about trivial things. That and I am too lazy to be serious.

This is giving a very strong "this thread has been an embarrassment for me, let it end, please" impression. I've seen enough forums and twitter threads to know it when I see it.

Like Nathan said, it's whatever at this point, it went from a joke to moderate toxicity to trying to put impressions out there

I think the point tft#6439 is trying to make is:
Sure, If you like a thread or are intrigued/interested by it, go ahead, reply to it. Talk in it. Whatever. But stay on topic.

If you don't like a thread. Don't go into it. There's no need to be negative towards someone else's thread. Constrictive criticism is good but there's a point where it becomes toxic and used to have a negative impact on someone or something. Sadly this thread has turned from a light hearted joke from one of my friends that I wanted to share, to a source of conflict and negativity on these forums.

From now on, if you have something negative to say about this thread. Keep it to yourself.

    Thank you.

So you can only deal with positive conversation? Forums are for discussion and people have different opinions. If you can’t deal with negativity, maybe don’t post anything at all. Some people are way too sensitive these days.

Kind of defeats the object of a discussion on a public forum. You really can’t state what replies are allowed and what are not.

Beside that, saying something is ridiculous is not toxic. It is just stating an opinion.

It's a petition on the government website. It may have been started as a "joke" however it inherently becomes slightly serious once discussion starts.

The point Tft is making is trying to suggest that disagreement = toxic. It's not. That suggestion - as with your post quoted here - only serve to shut down discussion and prevent people from disagreeing with you.

You cannot, absolutely not, call anything you dislike "toxic" and demand it be stopped.
You cannot accuse "conflict" when it only exists in your imagination.
It's an open forum and this is a very civil thread, unusually. There is nothing wrong with it, apart from you/Tft disliking disagreement.

People can disagree. You have no right to try and stop that.

This line alone makes me worry about who I'm having this discussion with...

Calling someone "a joke" is, in itself, pathetic. If it gets onto the level of "toxicity" it stumbles back down the stairs. No.

And "your opinion is wrong" is absolutely not a "toxic" statement.

We're just simply stating this is going way too far and the sooner this thread is locked the better. That's simply it.

Calling me a joke would be a personal insult and against forum rules. Disagreeing with me is absolutely fine.

I‘m certainly not going to worry what somebody I don’t know from the internet says.

    You, clearly, do not.
It's going too far only because you don't like it.
It's new internet slang, which, on a forum, is a red flag.

You know what, I've had enough, the fact is this is happened with me before and with others way too much. I'm over this, there are people in the world who like hating on others. Unfortunately they're on thre forums too. I AM OVER IT.

    Folks. Let me try again.
If you have something new to contribute to this thread, feel free to do so respectfully. But if your hammering on about the same points about why you don't like this thread, feel like it's silly, unnecessary, etc... Ya can (with all do respect) [EDIT - Jan - Quarrelsome] move on. I've asked nicely. Just drop the arguments of all the toxicity nonsense and what defines something as toxic and just leave this thread alone unless you have some proper reason to contribute to it.
If this request does not get followed I will personally make sure the thread gets locked down because it's getting a bit rediculous at this point.

Is this a Class 37? It looks like one. I got distracted by Google Maps and found it.

Are they the only 2 operators of Class 37s now? I would've thought there would be more (even excluding heritage railways).

Given the derailment and bickering in this thread I cannot see it moving into a good direction, therefore I'll be closing it.
Tomorrow I'll be looking into the replies and take actions if necessary, but for now I wish you all a good night.

Remember, this is supposed to be a safe place for everyone. Ridiculing, Insulting or trolling others has no place here.

    All the best,
    Jan
