Thought I would start my new project. As I have a lot of my custom models from TSC (which will need updating for TSW), I've started to build the full route in TSW4. The track is all laid and I'm now on with the signalling. The route will be based in 2022/2023. It’s a long-term project which I will try and keep up to date on here. I look forward to sharing my progress.
I've started adding a few models I've made, but currently its all about track and signal testing. I want to make sure the scenarios I have in mind are possible. I have got some models of Grosmont Sheds into game (Minus the textures right know) and I've also started work on modelling Pickering Coach stable. I've also got some models of Whitby station in normal UE4 that I've been playing with but they still need transferring into game. Still a very very long way to go though.
This is another one I'm blown away by already. The stuff you guys have been doing with the Editor is amazing and this looks an excellent choice of route
That is absolutely fantastic, very clever well done you and keep it up! Hopefully they come up with a better way of sharing this kind of thing when you’re done so everyone gets the chance to play it
If you need pictures or videos from the Esk valley I have a few and will be up there a few times between now and the end of March!
Wouldn’t it be great if you could drive a fair section of the TVL and then join this one to drive to Whitby. Really looking forward to seeing how this route develops.
I'm really pleased to hear that the railway I volunteer at is finally being made. If you need any photos of anything, I'm more than happy to help. I've got loads of photos on my phone's gallery. Quick question, will this be downloadable on the PS4 edition of TSW4 or not?
There isn’t currently a way to share this kind of thing on anything other than PC but here’s hoping by the time this good sir has finished the route they will have a way that people can share their hard work with everyone!
I was beginning to think there was nothing but German routes, so was quite relieved to find this. At one stage I actually thought the editor was only released in Germany!
Hi I thought Id give a quick update on my route. I'm currently building systems that will be used throughout the route so visually I probably don't seem to be much further on. As you can see from the picture below I have developed my own traffic system. It spawns and despawns vehicles depending on where the player is. It allows for selective vehicles to use the car park in front of the station at Whitby. It has working traffic lights and vehicles will also Give Way to other vehicles when needed. It will also allow busses to stop in the bus station. Ive still got a bit to do with the roundabout but most of the ground work is in now. It doesn't seem to have tanked the FPS too much although there is still a little bit to do. In addition I have now got most of the buildings into the game that I mocked up in UE4 before the TSW editor came out. That's it for now.
Thought I would share an update. The video below shows the vehicle system I've been working on. Ignore the cars which will be changed. It can be implemented all over the route and is fairly versatile. I will probably be leaving this as it is for now and moving on to some bits but it seems to work well so far. Let me know what you think and if I can make any changes
This looks fantastic! Loved that you've got drivers actually going into parking spaces here Didn't know Big Fudge had setup a business in Whitby
The traffic system is very cool, does it use much performance to run? Would it interact with a player vehicle, such as a tram, if someone were to make a tram line with your traffic system?
To be honest a lot of the performance questions are unknown. I know it's definitely not as performant as the DTG system but I will have to wait for the rest of the assets to go in before I can decide if it's going into my final route. I hope it will be ok. As for trams, it would need some slight changes, as all it looks for at the moment are pedestrians and other vehicles, but it wouldn't take too long to adapt.
Andy, this is absolutely fantastic. What a wonderful job you are doing here. I’d like to offer you my help in the form of pictures and videos of a few places on the route if you need them. I’ve got a few already and I’ll be seeing the Whitby Flyer rail tour there next week. Keep up the good work. If you have YouTube and or TikTok I have a page by the name of Casual Rail and there are clips there. You can also message me direct and I can provide you with more.
Hi. Thanks for the offer. It really is appreciated. As far as whilby to Pickering is concerned I have thousands of pics and video so I should be ok. Where I may be struggling down the line is around middlesbrough but will cross that bridge when I get to it.
No worries at all, i love what you are doing. Doing a better job than rivet games thats for sure. Cant wait to see more
Hi Andy, I love your creativity, I think it would be a really good idea to partner with dovetail games or one of the other partners with you as the main developer, to when it’s properly finished, the route will be available for everyone to purchase with layers and new locomotives added. I’m honestly so glad this is being made and I really think if this became available on the train sim world store it’ll be a massive hit.
Here are some more WIP shots of Whitby. As you can see Ive added a landscape texture although I suspect this will change many times. Im concentrating on Whitby to get as much in as I can so I can work out what affects everything has on FPS before I move on to other areas.
For anyone interested I took a run from Grosmont to Whitby to test that all the landscape tiles were ok. Nothing much to see until you get to Whitby but it will be interesting to do a few of these as I build to show how its progressing Bear in mind that this is playing in the editor with a screen recorder also taking processing power.
This is awesome! I live very close to one of the stations on this route and drive past Marton, Nunthorpe and Middlesbrough stations frequently. Any help you need with images at all will be very easy for me to do!
That means you’re on their radar, could be very good news for the project and for hopefully getting it on all platforms when it’s done! (So I can play it on my ps5 )
A very smart looking project Andy. Lots of interesting screenshots. Hope you're able to release this one day to the entire tsw community with DTGs help as I'd personally love to see this on console as I don't have a pc. Well done so far.
