Hello,,,my name is Lee of (TSLP) and I’d like to introduce my self and briefly explain also why I’ve set up this thread.
Simply put its a place for budding creators out there wanting to start out but may feel slightly intimidated by amount of threads from others on the community. As It has appeared to me that it seems some stick together and have no time for new joiners for them to show of work.

So this is the place for beginners to come and show of your work and share tips and advice without feeling is it all a complete waste of time and give up.
Speaking from my early days of getting into liveries is can be hard and does take a lot of patience so again this is the place for those early stages of picking up TSW4 and dealing with all things to do with editing.

Another reason is my son said why should he do a livery because he’s not good and everyone has done one, he has tried but no one cares,,,now for a young person it can be quite difficult and upsetting when they can’t reach their goals.
Well maybe this is the case but don’t let that put you off I want this thread be that place to start sharing working or even learn how to recreate your own personal livery’s for your own personal use with out having those feelings of I can’t do it the games LOVE etc.

We’ve all been there,,,and with that I try help my own son with his work but he gives in due to having a negative experience on his own ability. So I feel I have enough experience to share my own experience with those like my own son that would love to make liveries but struggle and at time when looking for help get lost in the woods on here and never get heard.

Well this thread is for you,,,and I have my own personal thread but again I wanted a place for users to share and I’ll offer my assistance from here when and if it’s needed due to my time on projects and as I say I have my own and this is not for me.

Young creators clubs this is yours.
Have fun share what you like without fearing the backlash like sometime I found with stuffy old threads.
This is for fun have a laugh do what you like but please stick to the community guidelines.

    So that’s it have fun.

Everyone’s welcome at the The Works Shed.

    Cheers.

Hello,,,I Just want to place one of my liveries that is on hold at the mo,,and to encourage artists with funky designs to come and show of their work.
You could say this one ain’t funky but the theme is based on one of my favourite aircraft’s the SR 71 Blackbird.
This loco is designed with that in mind as a retired SR 71 is located just of the I80 in Ashland, Nebraska and so tied it up with the Main location of Union Pacific also in the state of Nebraska.

Trying to add my interest along with the railroad.

So just two pics of work in progress and two of nose art I done in remembrance of the late Queen Elizabeth. As I’d like to see more pictures of what people have done and share creative ideas away from the norms of the usual railway designs. IMG_7155.jpeg IMG_7156.jpeg IMG_6325.jpeg IMG_6334.jpeg All work is done by hand,,NO MODS used.

So yes just want to try get this thread started and moving along so we can share content of conceptual designs.

Artists and designers THIS THREAD NEEDs YOU.

    Don’t let Uncle Sam down:)

Just a few test shots of my BR Retro 101 Project. Been a while wanting to do this one along with a Second Project 90s Legends also in the pipe line.
PLEASE NOTE THE 106 Unit “You Belong” LNER LIVERY IS NOT DONE BY ME. ITS DONE BY (SR) Trainfan,,,and very well too I might add. I did ask for permission to feature some of his work along mine. I also support what LNER have done and Trainfan for both bringing to forefront the Stigma surrounding Mental heath issues as I myself have been directly impacted all my life and in the past had dealings with Calm.

So Thank you LNER and Railfan.

And now for the pictures like I say the unit next to “You Belong” is my BR Retro 101 livery still in production with today being the fourth day of working on it so hopefully will be available later today with more information available on release. IMG_8508.jpeg IMG_8507.jpeg
    Thanks guys.

Okay folks so I feel it’s a little late on the photos of 90s Legends so here is a early test photos.
The livery today is in the last parts of development with the project details coming either later today or first thing tomorrow.
Christmas shopping and all that,,just kidding I never leave the house. So I will do my best to try get these details out about the 90s legends Project soon.
It’s also been slightly delayed due to fixing issues on set 801 101 from the BR Retro Project.

    So a quick peek. IMG_8656.jpeg
Only the one in my files for day light testing but here are photos I’ve just done now on where 801 227 is at in development. IMG_8666.jpeg IMG_8667.jpeg IMG_8669.jpeg
Like I say I’ve been busy working on this but had to delay by working on set 801 101.
If I can I’ll try get it uploaded today but at the same time I don’t want to rush a project due to fears of missing decals and just poor quality work. So I will endeavour to have it completed but at the same time don’t want to keep uploading to fix silly issues that I’ve overlooked in the checking process.

Right well I’ll get back to work as I don’t like to say much here as again I set this thread up for users to show of their work and artistic talent away from the norms of the railway scene. The strange and odd anything different that pushes the ideas of what livery’s could be used or seen on the uk networks or even around the world. The use of the traditional to blended in with the new or just completely smash what concepts train enthusiasts have in there minds of what is acceptable. Be Bright colourful or conservative in design like my work tend to be.

Just anything cool or unique that stands out. It’s why is set The Works Shed up,,,I don’t want just my projects on here.

    Cheers.

Okay folks it’s that time of year to be jolly and just darn right silly.

All about having fun and being with family. But for some this time of year is to just get away from the grinds or everyday working life.

So to try brighten up your season I just had to show you some work on my latest project,,,again more will be revealed soon but here a few pictures I couldn’t resist sharing with you for now.

Hope you enjoy these cheeky treats,,,I won’t tell you who’s it’s meant to be;) IMG_8891.jpeg IMG_8890.jpeg

    Test shots,,,work not complete.

    Thanks again.

Project Announcement Due Soon. IMG_8906.jpeg The livery seen has been in development since Friday but is still at the work in progress stage. The livery and project also links in with the recent post regarding users leaving kind messages for the hard work DTG has done over the years and recently.
As Company they have come a long way.

And this is why I need YOUR HELP. So please go and leave a short message of support or show of appreciation for the DTG and the its members for what they have achieved as a TEAM. You can have your message and user name on this livery.
    Along side some famous faces;)

So come on what are you waiting for. Tis the Season to Be Jolly, Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.
    Let’s have a laugh.

    Lee (TSLP).

Great idea mate! I think my message to DTG would have to be, 'After my desperate requests, thanks for bringing the old Eastern Region to TSW'. For Just Trains it would have to be the same but with BR Blue instead of old Eastern Region.

Your wish is my command. I’ll sort this for you now my friend. Any in particular colour for the writing?. It’s against a of white back ground but I’m sure BR blue would look okay:). Your choice tho bud.
Plus as seeing you are the first then you have the choice on where you would like both messages. I’m struggling for design space on the front leading and trailing units and with decal numbers. I’m fine for space on the other units tho. But you do want the main marketing area if you get my drift.

Are you also happy for me to include your community user name?. As this livery maybe shown publicly. Ideally I’d like that as away for us to get involved and share our passions and love for what DTG has done from its humble beginnings.

If you could please let me know if your okay with the user name and to confirm your colour an location of letters. I will endeavour to fit them on the main units, but I’m not promising anything.

So I’d like to say congratulations on you being the first and this is really really appreciated.

I’m glad your a supporter and now part of this Team DTG Project livery.

Thank you so much Matt,,,your a star.

Here you go buddy. Hope this is satisfactory,,,plus I also hope you don’t mind me changing a few alterations of your words.
These alterations was done due to better placement in there chosen location. IMG_8913.jpeg IMG_8914.jpeg IMG_8915.jpeg IMG_8916.jpeg

A few pictures so you can check before release to the public on Friday. (Hopefully).
As requested your message is on the front unit of 39142 in BR blue Colour:)

I tell you what tho I didn’t realise how many decals it would use or space it could possibly take up.
So I think I’ll have to limit these messages to around 7 tor 9 depending on length of message. But to be honest with you it’s worth the effort. I feel proud that you have allowed me to do this for you Matt.

I hope that I’ve done this in a respectful tasteful manner for you and your excellent reputation on here. Including those parties mentioned,,those two made a grown man’s dreams come true. So why not be open.

As always it’s a pleasure to have you on board:)

    Speak soon to mate.

Sure mate that’s what it’s all about,,,be great to have you on board. As I think you liked a few of my things in the past. So sure not a problem at all,,,it open for us to get involved.
Obviously just be respectful but you don’t need me to tell you that:)
I’ve just posted a picture of work for Matt. So you can see what is happening and I feel it be a great opportunity for you.

I don’t think anyone has done something like this so again it would be great to have you part of this for now and for you to look back on.
It’s a one off you could say.

Just one thing I’ll point out is I would like if you provide your user name of what you use on here if that would be okay?
Again you can see what I’d be doing with the messages and user name. I’m not sure if it may be used to a wider audience.
So this is why I’m double checking with you. I’ll treat you and anything used with respect.

Right we’ll best be cracking the clocks ticking so head down got me old White Label Euphoria album on to try pull an all nighter.
But in the words of Roger Murtaugh “I’m getting to old for this s@#t”.

Oh and please if you can let me know soon as I didn’t realise how long it takes but in saying that I’ve got a load of letters built up so just let us know when your ready with you kind messages.
There’s a little more information on the Support for DTG Kind Message thread if you would like to know more.
    (Total Recall)

Thanks for your kind support too my friend.

    Lee.

Thanks mate,,,,yes the totem and colours was the first thing I thought about for you,,so happy you approve. I may have got mixed up to last night too with location,,my head’s truly battered lol. I may have not made myself clear so my bad. It’s just where the white is on the ends of the units but I’ve chosen a good place for you as it’s in a prime location for being noticed.

I’ve also noticed my inbox so I’ll get back to you soon mate,,,you know what I can be like when I start waffling. Shame no one’s offered any Jam. How Rude lol.

Thank you for your continued support.
    Have to shoot,,.

    Catch ya soon Matt.

Such a thoughtful idea here :), I think DTG deserve to see this livery for themselves if it turns out how it should be ;)

    Here's my message:

Well done to everyone at DTG on a fantastic year, my favourite DTG-published route from 2023 has to be S-Bahn Vorarlberg and my favourite DTG-published loco add-on has to be the Railpool BR 193 'Vectron', roll on 2024!

No way….well you’ve just got your self ya own coach Mr TrainGeek08. You deserve it for all the effort you place in your work on here and as with Matt#4801 so happy to have you on board truly is my friend.

Seriously I am gob smacked as I respect your work if from a distance. Nothing personal I just keep myself to myself as I can have very bad low moments. I’m only probably doing this because I’m on a high mood. I so hope I stay this way.

    Anyway…
It’s also will show DTG who truly care as this is for them and been authorised by. Hopefully they will thank you just as much as I do and DTG.

Non of this would be able to have happened if they didn’t increase decal numbers something that has improved life and opened a world of opportunities as I can do what I’ve always dreamed. With low decal numbers I felt I could never see my true vision through.
And as I say it’s not endorsed by DTG in anyway but I guess it will be no secret that it’s been green lighted so to speak for me to able to do this. So again it’s all down to DTG so it was my way to say thank you and now it’s a way for us all to have a little say.

You are now part of this one of livery and as always I’m so happy that someone of your talent has come forward.

Just for clarification am I okay to place your community username next to your message on the actual livery as the livery may be shown publicly and away from this site. So if you could please let me know if this is okay for use and I will get on to it right away,,oh and if you would like to see your final message on the livery. I don’t want to spoil it if you want it kept under wraps until final release to CC. (I should have done that for Matt,,Sorry Bud).
And what colour would you like the message as it will be applied to a off white background. So anything light in shade my not show.

Well best be off,,,but seriously thank you TrainGeek08:)
    Ya proper made me day.

    Lee.

No worries at all, just put my forums username like you did with Matt's message :)

Of course I would like to see the message on the livery and can it be done in a darker shade of blue similar to Matt's one if that's alright with you :)

Can't wait to see what it looks like, I might have a special scenario pack on SEHS based on this unit... (it's still in the concept stage but hopefully it will do the livery wonders when it is released ;))

Absolutely perfect,,,,I’ll sort this for you now my friend not a problem. I’ll place your message in nice location and if you want I’ll send you a picture of what it will look like. If you don’t and just happy to leave it until release as a little surprise then I can do that now you have given permission for use.

Sorry to be Shirt and Sweet myself to:) but I’ll need to get to work so we can get this done,,,in time,,,I’m slight losing focus getting my Thomas & Friends box set out and being a kid.

But I do want you to know how happy I am to have you board for this fun themed Christmas mess around in fact it all sorts rolled in to one.

    Thank you so much mgbgt.

Sure I’ll do that bud,,,and I’ll send you a picture I’ll just place it up on here if that’s okay by you?. It probably won’t be until mid day tomorrow when done so we have time.

And if it helps its the SEHS Class 395 Unit 014, no mods used just done on PS5.
And sure that’s what it’s for just to have fun those are my strict instructions so I will say the same to you just have fun.
When I get more time I’ll have a look at what you planning if that’s okay. I don’t know nothing about scenarios and why I respect all that work in that area. I don’t have a clue I won’t lie and as I say why I respect those that do work on them.

I seem to keel saying this now but I’ll have to get off,,,there’s a few more messages to add.

I’ll catch you soon my friend.

    Lee.

Mornings TrainGeek08,,no worries buddy your unit is now done my friend,,,so one last push to try bring it all together so we can finally see what the whole thing looks like. I’ve hidden many many things from sight as not to spoil a little early prezzie surprise:)

I feel like I am rushing but I know for most of you working boys and girls out there (NOT RED LIGHT,Aha) your free time is and has always limited.
I can also appreciate how long it takes you go to do what you do so am trying to get this out to allow you that time too. Again I can appreciate how busy life gets on this busy season.

It’s okay for me sitting here as I don’t have to worry for a don’t go out any more,,and not done for along while.

Thats why I really do appreciate the hard work you guys do,,all of you. Your working lads,,,I am not sadly due to health.
You have way much more to contend with than I.

And why I’m glad to have you board and the other brave men to show the dedication you have for TSW to rest of the TSW community.
I will make sure you are all mentioned for your support. I could not have done this without you boys. Nor DTG for allowing it.

You are all real gents and a scholars.

    Bye for now TrainGeek08:)

    Lee.

Hello,,,Just quickly some Test Shots of the Other two little Locos for TEAM DTG,,,I can’t work on them passed to day so hopefully I’ll get them righted and up to the job.
IMG_9096.jpeg IMG_9123.jpeg The SD40 another proper first for me and the Class 08. The SD40 is so nice to work on but the Class 08. Then I tell ya what I’d say them Class 08s are a small but a bit of an hand full for detailing,,,,. A Pigeon is stuck behind the grill on this,,one bless its cotton socks.

My Goal was to complete the Class 395, Class 08,,SD40-2 just before Christmas and sadly the Class 700 after as don’t own that DLC yet unfortunately,,so having to wait to see what Santa brings me. So I’ve nearly hit my Goal,,,Yay.

This is just a quick announcement with all details being available later on release,,,fingers crossed that should be later today.

So I bid you farewell and to any last minute shoppers out there,,,before careful, it’s a wild out.

    Lee (TSLP).

I hope you don't mind me sharing one of my creations on here, if you'd rather me not then I'll delete the post.
    Anyway, I've made liveries before but I'm not very confident with making them.. but yesterday I decided to have a go at a DB Schenker as I love the one in game, however the sounds are awful and you can't use it on most routes - so I made this;
    5dee5a61-bc56-42a2-8963-b8b163c9ed16.png 39fffa3e-c054-4c1a-b824-5f721f4a5c25.png ce230d1a-3291-4d19-9800-74cdddc80aca.png 97d01ba8-0495-4a27-8247-f393a7b1e9ea.png
I'm really happy with how this turned out.. the handrails on the front were a pain to paint but I'm glad I did them!
I also made a clean variant, both of which are uploaded now, using the CLP 66 (I used that because it looks better with the headlights and window effects/tint, but I understand not everyone has that.)
Edit- I just did a few little updates, painted the tail lamp mount bracket white and I moved the yellow on the front to the correct place. :)

Hi Trainguy#6029 firstly well done on your Class 66 and mate you don’t need to ask to come here. It’s what I set it for. If you feel it would be a benefit then I might set up a tips page away from here for anyone like your self starting out or don’t have much confidence.
I just want you to see that you are welcomed here and to just relax mate. Don’t worry if you feel work is not as good as others,,,in this game liveries it takes time takes time even I’m still picking up new tricks everyday.

Personally I’m not very comfortable or confident myself even in my work I am so self critical,,plus doesn’t help me being a slightly odd person anyway. Probably why I also set this page up because I found it hard with no confidence to settle in our feel welcome when starting out as a new beginner.

So please your welcome and anyone that feels a little uncomfortable about forums then in The works Shed its there for new users and any big boys that are good at what they do to also come here show work and maybe help newcomers.
Why because I was like you once and want anyone wanting to learn the tricks to make liveries without the frustrations then they hopefully in time find them here the more the community gets involved. To help others.

As again I set this up for new users wanting to show work off or even gain tips along the way. I know I keep a lot of my secrets up my sleeve like the hands rails tips as you can do the whole bar with one layer. They are many different ways depending on the style of livery.
Plus on TSW4 the Projector tool is very clunky and is now hard to even set a door handle. An Over Masking method is now used,,and I’ve even had to change the way I set rails. IMG_9176.jpeg IMG_9184.jpeg Here are test shots showing the thin over layer or skimming so you can hide things under as you can see the tower over the door but under the yellow door surrounding. IMG_9213.jpeg IMG_9211.jpeg Here are the completed shots of work done using the over masking method. You can no longer simply set things from the side especially as the body work on the class 08 slight tampers inward as you move higher. So using the settings or projector is no longer possible. The odd time it might set where you want it but even then if on a very low value like 4 percent then when you leave the menu after setting go back in to see what value it is then it’s moved to 0 percent.
So that means if working on carriages if you move a decal or a group that are set using the projector then they will change values and so when un grouped there may have to all be altered again. IMG_8730.jpeg Setting first five door layers so they cover the outer frame but don’t touch the door or inside lips. This method makes the door look cleaner when they open as the decals are not set to project to the other side so as not hit the inner door lips. On this livery due to different angles of the body work and lines then over 30 decals was used for each door. 120 decals just for doors. So a lot of time and difference methods used,,hard to do but that’s only down to your own patience and skill. All something one picks up if they stick at it. Even when it gets hard push on I’ve had many nights crying my eyes out mate pushing for it to work how I want it. Very difficult but don’t let that put you off, for these are the best moments that force you to think out side the box. So when you do find the solution to those difficult task you’ll laugh at yourself for overthinking or overworking the issue as the answer was there along,,,if you just sit back and play it out in your mind.

So when you know how then it sometimes works better than on TSW2 or TSW3. Yet you could say yes we have more decals now on TSW4 but the way projector tool works then we do need them extra ones because doing a simple task is harder so more decals may or may not have to be used.

But as you can see it’s taken me a long time to master and tbh honest taken valuable time or even just having fun.
Many long nights working it all out but again that down to determination,,,your own personal goals. Probably why and rather selfish of me I keep some tricks close to my chest.

Yet in saying that I do want to start helping other like your self to the best of my ability for as of today on TSW4 to get a real mint looking livery with all detail that would be there on the real thing is hard for some newer users as my son uses TSW3 livery and can use that fine but struggling with TSW4 not only when setting decals but keeping track. I know what that’s like as I think the most decals I’ve used is close to 8000. I’ve just told him to just grind away,,,that’s all one can do like in any game. Time and patience but in that time one will get better and also learn a lot about themselves. I have.

Well I’ve rambled on enough here which you find I do a lot of,,but that’s just my passion for liveries.
Please don’t take me the wrong way as I am a pretty laid back person even tho I may come across as kind of up his own arse when it come to work or liveries. I just take pride that’s all mate.

So again you don’t ever need to ask to post here and I am thankful to you for being so brave too for I know my post can be quite daunting to new comers. But please I don’t want you feel daft for coming here,,show what you want and if you ever want me to pass comment or be critical or your work as I feel to have criticism is good. We can listen and learn on where one is going wrong. So please feel free to comment on any of my work openly don’t hold back.

So if I may I’d just like to say a few things about your livery.
Has it been done on TSW4?.
In fact this has been a long post so if you wish just let me know if you’ve done this on TSW4 and I’ll tell you how one can make it better.
There is nothing much wrong with it to be fair. For starts you twisted the decals to fill the gaps so you’ve got that covered (Get it got it covered) lol. Moving on,,,the roof is clean and the weathering is not over done to be fair to you it looks better than my earlier work so kudos to you. Weathering as you know is an art form in itself. You got the light cover done too,,,and an attempt on warning labels.
So it’s very good and why I just need to now if it’s done on TSW4 before I open my big mouth any more.

And with that I just want to welcome and thank you for being here.
Just relax mate,,,that’s what it’s all about,,,share work,,share tips and just joke and kid around. I sound old because I am but I am still a kid at heart mate.

Life is too short to take laughter away so early and to depressing be an adult so young.

Why take life so seriously when we are just mere specs lost to affinity on the time line of space and time:)

    Have a good one.
    Lee. (TSLP)

Yes, the livery is made on TSW4, made it on my Xbox Series S and all! I'm happy to hear what else you've got to say about the livery, any and all help/criticism is appreciated - as it'll help me in the future!
I'm really sorry because I will have undoubtedly missed out replies to things you said (to be fair, there was a lot there!) but I do appreciate everything you've said, even if I've not replied directly to it, and I'll keep at making liveries - just not got any ideas at the moment as all the ones I would make someone else has already made, so I might as well use their livery aside from making my own (probably worse) version! Haha!!
The warning labels are a pain to add, as they never display properly with them being all pixelated and messy, but they're there and that what matters I guess. This is my first time weathering something with this detail, usually I just use the fade square and paint it brown, so I'm really pleased with this!
Out of curiosity, how old is your son? If you'd rather not answer (which is beyond understandable) then that's fine, was just wondering if we're similar age - I'm 15 you see, so I was just curious - sorry for asking in advance.
Thanks so much for replying, and the tips - those damn handrails are a pain!! Glad to be here, and I'll definitely keep posting my creations, when I think of what to make! ;)
Thanks again, and again I'm sorry that I've not replied to everything you said. :P

Hi Buddy no worries lad don’t ever feel you have to answer or respond to all that I say I just try explain or give a few pointers so don’t worry lad. I don’t say what I say for other to blow smoke up my backside again it just a few pointers there so you can ask freely on how I done them in more detail.

I also appreciate your honesty in us both being open and critical of work,,,I’d rather you see them as positive criticism then take them as negative,,,I wish people did it to mine. I’m not good at rail way knowledge and I’d appreciate there knowledge so we can both bring great work for the community together.

This is why on picking up on you mentioning difficulties in finding liveries to do. And also why I set this thread up as to move away from the standard BR stuff that we so often see now on TSW. Mix it up or give the old new life by ways of fictional liveries.
Why well I myself don’t really like to duplicate work but I go back to my original roots of why I started out. They just wasn’t good enough and I personally felt I could do them better for my own use and play experience. This was in the beginning. I wanted to push my limits and what could be achieved and also as what I liked doing was to bring back scrapped locos and give them new life in the simulation world of TSW.

So to somewhat answer this topic of what to use and not do then,,I’d simple say do what you want and what you like. If it’s been done and done to a proper accurate level then use that from CC. CC don’t belong to one person yet this is a problem of over crowded market.
You will find you get a few top creators that to me seem to be pushing out work just to say flood CC with standard BR blue diesels or BR Green steam trains. That’s all well and nice but in some way it can deter users like your self from spending time if it’s already done.
But again this work is standard pushed out like white goods.
And because of this the attention to detail is or sometimes lost. Quality so again don’t worry if you feel you can do a better job then make it.

A few pointers for you and how I conduct my work. In the beginning I had few leaders on CC until I deleted the lot.
It been just under a year of not using TSW so I placed old work back up but now the market had changed. Those liveries that was once popular are not even passed 10subs. A bit of a kick in the you know what’s. I wanted to place old work back up for TSW2 and TSW3 even tho in some aspects it’s the same game even TSW4. Because of different features some liveries don’t show if you don’t have the lasts title. IMG_7039.jpeg IMG_6988.jpeg So I started to do liveries for TSW2 old work and then newer the way I wanted with TSW4. More details so more accurate than anything on TSW2 or TSW3. Top done on TSW2 below TSW4 both on PS5 but TSW2 was originally done on PS4.

But like I say the market had changed and all that you could say could be done has been. On TSW2 or TSW3. I wouldn’t say TSW4 hasn’t been fully used yet to it’s full potential in editing so a new opportunity to make old work better or do what you see on CC but with higher decals.
I perfectly understand where your coming from tho,,,but if we all did that I don’t think anyone would be making anything and why it’s a down side to CC if younger users or older think what’s the point if it’s been done.
Why I’d also say it’s important that DTG keep it fresh or that sales gimmick of CC will be worthless. NEWER LOCATIONS AND NEWER UNITS OF DIFFERENT PERIODS OF STEAM AND DIESEL FROM AROUND THE WORLD. This is a must or it will deter any newer audience joining.

CC is becoming overcrowded as you yourself can see and have a valid point.

But as of now I have more work than anyone man can handle why I wanted a few of us to get together and work on a joint project so we’re not duplicating work and we all some what gets slice of that pie. Because for some reason I feel even myself here we take it to extremes.
And I feel it can have a negative impact on newer players.

Because I’m not stupid and I know because I’ve done it myself if you see some work that looks great you could include mine then it could and can put people off because they say what’s the point. I can’t do that or how’s he done that. I’ve done it myself in the beginning and as someone that wanted to enjoy creating liveries and just enjoy the game then it was very off putting.

So today there is some real great work out there and as an active member on CC fully appreciate the work that goes on. But also as an active user see that my work put out for user’s enjoyment can also have an adverse effect.
I know I’ll sound pig headed but it’s true as someone taking responsibility for the high level of work put out but how it effects younger users.

To my son,,,He is 11 and from first hand I see the effects not only my work could possibly have but others too flooding the market.
I see first hand from a father points of view that my son wants to make liveries but can’t because no one explains anything properly on YouTube. It’s to fast or Timelapse. He can’t follow that. Why I so desperate want to make YouTube videos to show in depth how it’s done share my skills so we all can enjoy making liveries be that BR blues or a silly Roblox train. (For own Kids use). Plus he himself sees what’s the point if it’s been made. It upsets him.

I personally feel any new players wanting to enjoy this side of the game and is something they would buy the game for are being left out.
By DTG possibly and by active creators. For in any market you want to cover as much age groups or market share as possible to get them in to the franchise early as other users drop off. Or new competitors enter and start eating in that market that’s been missed or ignored.

So slightly of track there but I hope you can see I fully understand that yes it great to see liveries on CC but for anyone wanting to make liveries then that choice or overcrowding on CC has the negatives too.

I’m on open person and my son has said to me once,,Dad your too good I’ll never be good as you. It made me think about it and have done ever since and why I know it’s important to help others regardless of there age or ability.

Why The Works Shed his here for newer users to come and share they work knowledge and talk with like minded people without having that feeling of what’s the point or feel daft. I found it a little stuffy on here and wanted to bring something fresh because it’s important to bring something new fun and fresh be that a bright pink train or something serious. New user get there work included with top players work,,and hopefully include and share tricks and tips.

So as much as my son thinks I’m a Bum Sweat with the work I do please don’t look at me as that.
I have different motives than others and probably going around it the wrong way. Yet I won’t go into that.
Like I said previously don’t worry about commenting on all I say nor worry I’m a bit cocky in the why I think about my work.

I go of what my Son said and my first hand experience as a beginner once myself.

So not only do I post from here but I’d also help if help is needed. To all of the community I feel we need to help and welcome the newer members even if it’s in there own little Works Shed. There will always be someone with more experience at hand willing to help.

So a helping hand from me:)
Your hand rails. Front ones. Work from the side tilt at the same angle of the body work slight move away so as not to touch the body work but cover as much as the hand rail as possible.
Door Rails. Work from above again slide out so they cover as much of the rails. You will have the roof showing the decals. Cover over with roof decals. This hides top view looking down on rails.
Warnings stickers,,I’m not sure why your having issues as to be fair as it’s not an issues but i think I can see where you’ve gone wrong.
The letters look to full. This is either down to you using the scaling method to size up rather that just sizing it.
So first step white square on the side as it is. Then warning sticker over the white square. Leave the warning sticker and move the white square so it looks the right size to match the warning sticker. IMG_7147.jpeg
I’ve not got anything on file but just for ref. As the next step is to group the square and warning labels together. Simple size them or move them under number one setting. Don’t use number two settings as this will srink the letters and make them look blurry.

Place them in the desired location and then ungroup. Use the projector tool to mirror from left to right (working from the left side).
Then same on front projection to rear. 4 white decals used for front and side. 2 front and two on the sides.
Then with the warning labels leave the left one as it is then copy and flip to right side. 8 warning stickers are used. 12 Decals used in total and that’s job done.

I hope these tips easy your pain,,but like I say to most now just have fun and play around with it. This will help you find different methods as you will be faced with different challenges depending on the complexity of some liveries.

And for liveries you have TSW4 new opportunities and with my old work anything done for TSW2 or TSW3 is history.
From the homework I’ve done then to you my advise is yes many locos have been done but on TSW2 and 3 seize the opportunity to make them all again on TSW4. So from right now my friend I’d say knock ya self out and make what ever you like. If you feel it’s worth you time and effort.

Because from my end here I’ve got so much work I don’t know where to start,,because with TSW4 you could say it’s a fresh start to make liveries you see but with added details that couldn’t be done with only 300 limit.

Like I was told and I’ll pass that on. Just have fun mate.

Chill out bang some tunes on mood lighting on and focus on the job at hand. Making the best livery one can.

Only by playing will one ever learn,,be that the game of life or just a simple understanding of decals. We get better every day the more we play those games:)

    Lee (TSLP).

Again, no chance I'll be able to reply to everything you've said (my memory is awful for a 15 yr old.)
I've got your 66789 livery, by far the best available in my opinion, same goes for all your liveries, beit fictional or true to life! I much prefer making real liveries, my next project is an ex- EWS DB 66, so the EWS livery but with DB logos on the sides etc, just need to find a reference loco to base off.
Thank you so much for the tips, I'll have to read them again as they've gone in one ear and out the other (typical me) but thanks again for the tips, I really appreciate them!! My issue was that I used the number 1 setting, I'll try updating my DB livery with that in mind now! The handrails I've managed to find a way for the side ones, it's the front ones I struggle with, I did what you said but it then overlapped the yellow on the front and no matter what I did I couldn't get it not to do that thanks to other layers, which then all piled up.. I did manage to sort it out eventually though (which I don't remember what I did of course) - I'm getting better now though, and your tips will 100% help that too!
Me and your son are similar in terms of TSW then, although I do get ideas but usually never make them and then forget over time about me wanting to do said livery. Something else I could do is rework my liveries, I made a few GBRf liveries so as a little side job I could try and update them, although it seems as though updating liveries made in older versions as you said doesn't work well, which is a huge disappointment!
I hope I've not missed any key things you said, if I have I can only apologise. (and then edit them in haha!)
You're not a bum sweat, you're just good at doing this to the point it (according to your son) makes you look like a bum sweat! :P
Thanks again for replying, and yet again thanks for the tips - I'll keep you updated with the stickers and new things I'm making. ;)
I've got a problem - the warning stickers are blurry, no matter what I do. If you've got any other ideas please let me know, not sure why they're still blurry but as of now there's not much I can do unfortunately.

    Found a reference loco/pic;
Might try finding one with the DB logo in the yellow 'Z' though, if I find one I'll post it.

Nevermind, I've decided to go for this one - an ex European 66, I love the little chevron thing on the front haha, plus I can make both of them, make one and copy it and just do some minor changes to make it like the other one - a two in one essentially!

Just done 66174 - I cannot for the life of me get the colours correct, but I'll have to have another go at it tomorrow. :/
I think I need to make the maroon a tad more red, aside from that (in my opinion) it doesn't look too bad I suppose.

Oh my god. This is beyond annoying - it's either too dark and it ends up this horrible brown or it's too light and ends up this awful, ugly pink. :|

    Hi Buddy.

I’ll try keep this one short today if I can lol.
And hey again no need to apologise for not reading it all,,for I might now answer all yours. I think the main thing for you to do if reading my stuff just pick up on the stuff that’s ref to your issues.

If your looking for pictures or any information about the unit it self from manufacturers to lease companies. I can get some information for you. Where it’s and all that. For Pictures a friend of the family was a manager for EWS and a keen train enthusiast so has plenty of pictures of what you maybe looking for.

Where I struggle,,in that I am not what you call a train enthusiast as such,,,I like trains and the history. In fact last night I did a run at 3am from Peterborough to Doncaster then jumped on a return sat in the back had a chill and nodded off:)
It was so cool to just sit in the back unit and race the world race by. I love being around trains,,I love making liveries so I plod on picking information up as I go to help me with my work. This why I mentioned getting data together on the unit and then find out it life history in away.

This is why I do research in to colours a lot,,so some help for you when doing colours if your struggling. If your working of pictures then please don’t.

The reason why many different factors need to be considered and is to hard to find a proper accurate representation of a colour.
Things that can change the colour in pictures is the film used,,,there camera settings,,,age of photo,,distance from object and different weather and lighting conditions all effects the shade of a colour.

So for this I retuned to an old hobby of modelling. I used to do ships and planes.
This could be a good start for learning about colours or Ral code etc,,as on the forums there they talk about true representation of colours,,,use of sheds and different methods of mixing paints.

Like the naming of Paint for Brunswick Green,,,it was never a name for the original paints used. Information can be found on the back of old body panels:)

So without going of track I’ll show you the EWS unit I done have a look and see if you like the colour and I’ll send you the codes. IMG_6102.jpeg IMG_6103.jpeg IMG_6106.jpeg IMG_6114.jpeg
This was done on TSW2 I think it was my last new loco done actually. Not sure. It’s under the TSLP code of TSLP65 if you want to see what it looks like in the light. I have used a layer to make it look dirty so will of set the colour slightly.
I could be here all day about the way colours look but in time you will get used to it,,,for I think some liveries I’ve seen made they must have there colour level set quite high to the top in the lighter shades of the spectrum.

And to be honest I’d say a fair understanding of how paint works or reflects light or LRV,,Light Reflect Values and paint pigmentation.
On the colour bar the lighter the shade the less rich it will look to much colour will make it look full and then appear toy like.

But again to be fair to your colour it looks okay,,,for Reds are very hard to do. In this case it’s a Maroon or Crimson shade so to light in the colour used will appear Pink and then darker it will turn brownish. So you want to be in the mid range of the colour spectrum really to balance this out. It’s pretty involved so don’t want to overload you with information.

With your rails it looks and sounds like you getting there but like I mentioned with me son he find it hard to decal manage like you also mentioned. But don’t worry look at what you can do so you have some clue on what to do. It all takes time as I’ve been doing this since 2021 so many lesson learned on how to keep track especially now with the TSW4 liveries. So like I say you need to play around a little for your own understanding of how it all works.
The experience you gain by doing this will come in handy when taking on more challenging liveries. Only the user them self can gain that and yes pointers will help but I feel this is something I couldn’t explain as it can get very confusing and complicated.
For the work you’ve shown me looks great if your only properly getting into making them. You have made liveries so you can decals manage you will just get better in time the more you play.

So for your front rails do like I say work from the side but then with the yellow place that from the front and size up over any white hitting the front structure. You should have the colour or the unit done and the yellow warning panel done first for the white rails to be applied. Then working in yellow from the front to cover any white. You should only be using 3 decals essentially for this job.

I can still see that the letters are blurry too I’m not sure what’s going on with that.
Just out of curiosity do you ungroup after doing what I said. I think your are but if not then they can appear full and also because the white is set to project to the rear or the sides then if left grouped so will the warning decals.

Right well I best be off. I just want to say thank for using some of my work. I hope it brings you great pleasure.
And I am thankful for you kind remarks but I’m not very happy with it so if you want to tell me what you don’t like or would change could you please let me know. I don’t like the Blue used nor the dirt layer used. I think it appears to greyish in tone now.

I only ask because it appears your into trains a lot more than me.

If and when I get time I might show you the process in pictures as I’m going to be working on new and existing projects very soon so time will be tight. I’ll still try the best I can to assist you.

    Catch ya later.

    Lee (TSLP).
