Seeing quite a few routes where the snow textures are not looking right at all and wondering if somethings happened. (Peak Forrest in picture on XSX)
There seems to be yes, on various routes I have seen various degrees of shocking snow and there seems to be absolutely no consistency as to when it strikes.
I was on Left Rhine recently and noticed the same thing, albeit much more subtle. The snow directly surrounding the tracks seemed to have a different color and lighting than the rest of the snow on the route. There were also weird sharp-edged piles of snow on the platforms that grew bigger/smaller as I moved the external cam around. I don’t remember such snow inconsistencies in TSW3. Smells like a core issue!
Yes, and it's not just a TSW4 or TOD4 issue. I am playing on TSW3 and pretty much every route will have issues with the snow textures. Boston Sprinter, Clinchfield Railroad, Linke Rheinstrecke and Kassel Würzburg, to name a few.
DTG JD A number of people have raised this now (me included) over multiple threads and all platforms and there’s been no comment on it. Something has clearly changed in the core making snow look awful, it now looks like the two-tone snow covered tracks in the TSC AP Track EP which was equally poor, the worst bit of that pack by far. This never used to be the case in TSW (snow used to be a guaranteed plus point of TSW) so something has clearly changed. What and why has this happened and when is it going to be sorted out? The ‘winter core update’ seems like an ideal opportunity to right whatever wrong has happened here. Look at the screenshots above then look at this, just a totally random video off YouTube of snowy gameplay; You would rather hope that things get better over time, not significantly worse.
Peak Forrest - an otherwise nicely modelled route - suffers from this letdown. Sure, sure, not "game breaking" but not easy to "overlook" or tolerate as well. I think we can agree on that?!
Good morning everyone, Thank you all for the screenshots/videos of the snow issues, it's clear something with the rendering isn't going right, I'll check in with our dev team on the issue and see if I can get an update for you all.
I suspect there are two things going on here. There is the big issue that is perfectly highlighted in the screenshots from Peak Forest, and there is the issue with the track and track bed. That latter I don't believe to be an issue with snow per se, I think the snow is highlighting a bigger problem with the track and the track bed and I'd say something is not right either with the shaders or the materials. Look at these screenshots of Left Rhine in the rain, you can see exactly the same issue(s), except it's not quite as noticeable as everything isn't meant to be a single colour. You can clearly see a difference in the way the shaders/materials are set up between the track bed and the track itself and the way the ambient light is affecting them. Again, it's 'nice' that it's now been acknowledged, but why is this not being picked up 'in-house'? I looks terrible, I simply refuse to believe no-one at DTG has spotted it before now.
I've come across this on Peak Forest, while trying out the Pacer on it (which has a much better headlight than the stock traction). In snowy weather, the middle section of Dove Holes tunnel is full of snow, while the ends are clear.
Theres also issues with trees. I did a run with light snow and the trees where turning from white to dark in the distance, but the near trees where dark. The formation of snow in dynamic weather seems wrong too and all kinds of strange morphing goes on. Theres also a very noticeable snow pattern on the ground that you can see when its forming. needs work.
flat snow isn't that difficult to render, but as soon as there is only a little wind, snow isn't flat anymore also, snow accumulates on different parts of the rolling stock and surrounding environment, which is difficult to capture finally, snow drifts and get blows away and/or sucked into the slipstream of moving trains, another effect which is difficult to render so that's why I usually avoid winter scenarios, as faulty winter textures stand out immediately, not mentioning snow flakes falling under canopies or in tunnels
Unfortunately as soon as the winter moths strike dynamic weather sets the temperature constantly in the negatives and then it just snows and snows
I’ve seen that one get reported lately, but don’t worry if it snows you won’t be able to see out of the front window as the wipers don’t work making any error invisible in cab view
I found the platform like this on Bremen Oldenburg route (I think it’s Hude Station in the middle of the route), definitely seems to be affecting pretty much anywhere with snow this issue.
Yes, if it is done right. All snow is not powder..lol It doesn't look good and should be an option. Why not?
