So, I thought I just needed to write something for the ETS2 players amongst us. How beautiful the winterland landscape has been created, a free map only for the time of the event! We have 5 different towns/deptos, a frozen lake to ice road over it, a christmas market, a chocolate factory and even a train line in winter wonderland! The community challenge for one player is to at least deliver goods from and to 5 different depots in the winterland within 15 deliveries and you get some nice accessoires like a glowing christmas tree or a christmas star for your cabin! Can recommend anyone to participate and discover the beautiful new map, which is temporary and available for free when you play ETS2 up to January 14th I believe. Really worth at least one visit and get to know snow for the first time and bad stearing conditions for the first time from the developer side in the game!
And there even is a train in winter wonderland, which you can ride along too when you come from the chocolate factory!
That looks amazing. Leaves DTG in the dust for innovation, they could have dusted off and extended or enhanced the existing Christmas layout, maybe even offered it as a temporary freebie but, nada. Got to love the night time graphics too!
Do you see the train in the second post? How amazing would it be if we could have something like that in TSW? A christmas train. I mean with the the Holiday elf DLC but it does not come close to the idea of actually having a dedicated christmas DLC for the real world routes instead. And livery designer... We can't add lights to a train there to make for example the Flying Scotsman to a christmas train like that. So many potential in TSW, which is just not cared about...
Also I had my first crash/stuck in snow accident already, because it's really hard to brake down cuz the roads are so slippy. The way out was calling the tucking service and this canceled the active job. My advice: use hand brakes [space] to brake down! This reacts way faster than the normal brake.
Yeah, if you can't or won't have a real christmas tree at home, this is a very nice replacement. Also take a look at the NPCs. Wearing seasonal outfits.
How do you get this to trigger? Thought I'd found a job on a city with the snowflake symbol but just a normal delivery.
Thanks for the images - I'm currently not planning to update ETS2 (running on 1.47) due to my huge ProMods+RusMap+SouthernRegion+VolgaMap+SibirMap+Aral+RoadToAsia combo which is all I need at the moment...(and is running well after figuring out some load order issues) I'm usually waiting until all map mods are updated before updating ETS2.
You need to take a look at the external jobs and then take a container (don't know the correct word for it now in english) with one of the christmas liveries. Sometimes, None like these shows up for the cities in which you are or close to you, so you need to try the job request another time after a minute or so. I don't quite know if we can access the portals to winter wonderland just without a job, but I think it's not possible. Maybe rewatching the video I linked in the OP helps you how to get into the portals. The interesting thing is once you're in winter wonderland, you also can just take from depots there.
Can't edit the title? Probably they removed the feature because it was abused by some forum members. (Ministry of Truth)
It's really worth it. I took many screenshots but the beauty is even more breath taking in there I think.
Thanks to ProMods, I'm not unfamiliar with snow in ETS2 Iceland, Svalbard, Kyrgyzstan... The lighting in ETS2/ATS is just so superior to TSW... absolutely captured the spirit of Norway here. And I haven't seen artificial volumetric clouds looking better than carefully selected cloud bitmaps yet. I've seen an interesting video on YT, describing the evolution of game graphics. A very steep curve from the 90s to the 2010s, but then the curve flattened. Graphics have not necessarily become better (but performance has), it all evolves around small improvements and mostly adding (unrealistic but somehow popular) post process effects that are more movie-style than depicting real visual perception. To me, these ETS2 shots are absolutely photorealistic. Ambient light is spot on and not ridiculously overexposed as in TSW4. This is a game I don't want to change.
Doing the first Event delivery using my old horse And now headed to the Post Office. That world is so beautiful, I could post hundreds of screenshots.
Also another advice: In case you're hunting for the cabin asseccoires of the challenge, you usually have several eligible jobs available and then take the contract/job with the shortest distance to the portals and the start/End depot to its respective portals. 15 Jobs from the 5 different Depots are way easier done then. I already have 13 Jobs done and am on delivery for the 14th. Probably will reach the 15 Jobs today. I hope that the christmas tree asseccoire can glow with its little lights.
Sorted how to do it now. Yes very nice and for free it's an excellent incentive to draw people back to the game - might even contemplate buying West Balkans as a gesture of thanks. DTG certainly need to look at something similar for next year, obviously can't use portals, but a fantasy map transporting cargo and passengers around a 16 x 16km area, would be nice.
You should absolutely get WB DLC, it’s so much more than just another map. Whole new experience IMO. (Great fit for the new DAF XD Daycab too).
Been doing this event myself in ATS (I own both ATS and ETS2) and it's fantastic. Winter Wonderland has been well put together and you have to be careful driving on those icy roads. It was fun to do some ice road trucking and there were lakes to drive across too. Look out for the aurora borealis whilst in wonderland.
Bit of a difference to DTGs offering! Submit screenshots for nothing or complete loads of scenarios for teasers of upcoming things! A lot could be learned from SCS on how to look after your community.
