I know how the WTT, and TSW timetables work :P. I've made a TSW timetable previously. But even with the discrepancies, there is still about a minute of difference in the departure times, which would make it feel a lot better to actually drive. The full loiter times in reality are 30 seconds. That's what the WTT specifies at least. Station duties which include opening doors, loading/unloading as well as closing doors. Obviously quite hard to hit those numbers, which is why trains always tend to be a bit late arriving/leaving. So the actual numbers are: TSW Timetable: Depart Nottingham: 10:33:45 Depart Beeston: 10:39:05 Real Timetable: Depart Nottingham: 10:35:00 Depart Beeston: 10:41:00 Both of those times include 30 seconds loading/unloading before departure. So the TSW timetable gives you 40 seconds less to do the same actions as reality. Which will quickly add up if it's at every stop.
It’s nothing to do with the timetable being fictional, in fact before the update it was an accurate representation of the 2018/2019 timetable. But since the update the AI/auto generated timings have crept in making things unrealistic. Can this be reverted at all?
Tried a 158 service, Arrived at Beeston 2 minutes late and gave up instantly. the AI generated timings have made this route go from my most played to least played.
I don’t understand how the route could have started with non-AI based timetables but switched to them? It seems this is what has happened based on player feedback. How? Why? What?
I suspect it was more to do with the timetable changes for the freight pack, over the patch. But either way, it's one of the few things that annoys me so much about some of the routes.
They can't not release a project. They are still a business and they have to release content at some point and can't spend ages working on it. Deadlines exist everywhere and if you don't meet it, there would be consequences.
On https://train-sim-world.fandom.com/wiki/Midland_Main_Line#Rolling_Stock it says there are 5 ROG 37 services. What are these please? Freight, rail tour, hauling failed trains etc.? I cannot seem to find this online, but it’s important in working out whether or not to get these in the sale. Thank you
It's the fact that the guard takes so long to close their door that makes you late. I live in Leicester and have taken the Leicester to Nottingham stopper service many times and can assure you, the guard doesn't wait 15+ seconds to close their door after the others
I'm on PS5, I bought and tried this route this week and I haven't gotten very far but I have encountered a few issues already. I was trying the Easy Ride scenario and I had trouble keeping up with the timings. I am also having trouble as one of the doors doesn't close at the same time as the other doors, delaying me even more. It's a bit frustrating to hit problems so soon in my journey, I'll put it aside until some of these timetable issues are (hopefully) addressed.
The ROG class 37 services are hauling class 375 Electrostars to Derby. I believe these are supposed to be seasonal runs to simulate the electrostars going for overhaul. One door staying open is simulating the guard closing all but the local door so he can perform final platform checks to ensure no-one or items are trapped in the doors. This timings thing seems to be since the update. It wasn't like this before and you could mostly keep to time between stations. I noticed it the first time I played MML after the update and mentioned it earlier in this thread.
I remember reading somewhere you can close the doors much earlier as even when the guards door is open the loading process does keep going to save yourself time
Well, you can close the doors earlier then the "close doors" indication on the HuD. I usually don't and, even with the slow 'guard' response, I usually get top medal on the 158 runs. Being in the US, I am used to trains running late, so it does not bother me.
There's a reason why I said this. If JT showed what can be accomplished WITHOUT a deadline then there's no excuse of why a deadline should still be there in the first place. Yes route development might take longer but let's be honest here I think we rather have High Quality Routes than the current quality that most routes are in anyways
That might be best for us as consumers, but from a business perspective it unlikely is to be. Minimum Effort required to achieve the maximum possible profit is pretty much business 101 unfortunately. Certainly is when you are beholden to shareholders.
So crashing on this route is still an issue on PS5. I was trying to complete the HST journey mode with service 1F63 London St Pancras to Leeds and the game crashed about 1 mile from Derby. I was going back through journey mode to try and update the score to platinum but I guess I won't be doing that now.
Pretty sure even JT would have had a deadline, but it would have been more lenient given their larger TSC catalogue safety net. Setting no deadline would just mean things would never get completed, because if you had perfectionists on the team, I'm sure BPO would still be in development. With no deadline, where would the scope end? Would it be an accurate 1:1 represenation, would all rolling stock be accurate... it just wouldn't work.
Just had a crash on PS5 in Chasing Yellows. Interestingly enough, it almost seemed dependent on how quick you go about it. First try, I wasn’t hurrying and played ‘organically’ - game crashed a couple of hundred yards outside Leicester. Next try, I hurried up and departed on the second very aggresively - game ran fine and I could complete the scenario.
Tell that to all the failed business that flopped because they kept rushing out garbage products. Just look around the gaming industry.
I had one on ps5 in the HST going from Derby to London St. Pancras. Literally 20 yards from the stopping point at Leicester.
Yeah, and you'll find the CEOs and shareholders that made those decisons normally still make tons of money, even if the business fails. Short term profits, not long term is the name of the game these days sadly.
I’ve discovered that despite the gangways and doors being open it isn’t possible to walk through carriages in the skyhook version of the HST. PS4 It has happened several times across multiple different sessions, and in training centre free roam spawn. Anyone else had this please?
I seem to remember some of the DTG routes also reverted from proper, input timings to horrible AI-generated timings when they got ‘improved’. There must be something about making changes to the route which means the timetable gets reset somehow, and rather then re-building it properly they just take the easy option and let the AI do it - which it does very badly. For me, even if the timings are achievable, the odd-second arrival and departures take much of the enjoyment out of it as it’s a constant reminder that it’s not a realistic timetable. With MML it’s particularly sad as so much great work has gone into improving the scenery - then they made it unplayable (for me) by destroying the timetable. I used to play it quite a bit before the update. Now I never touch it. To be honest, I think if a developer does this to a route after people have already bought it, they should offer a refund to those who want it. They’ve withdrawn the product people bought (quite a short time after release), and replaced it with something inferior, which doesn’t seem fair.
Well it's not gamebreaking, only immersion breaking. So whenever there's something you don't like about a dlc, dtg should just hand it out for free? No other games gives it out for free if players are unhappy with something
That’s not what they’re saying. They’re saying if you buy something because it has ‘X’ feature but then later on ‘X’ feature is removed, it’s not fair. A bit like buying an iPhone because it has Face ID, a feature you want, but after an update, Face ID is disabled and can’t be used again.
I think you've misunderstood what I said. If a game has a certain deficiency, I can choose not to buy it. However, if a game is sold without that deficiency, and I buy it, and then a short time later the deficiency is added, I don't get that choice. I definitely wouldn't have bought this route with an AI timetable, and yet, that's exactly what I've now got for my money - through (in my view) no fault of my own. In fairness, I've no doubt there's a line in the small print somewhere which says once I've paid my money they can change what they like and I'm entitled to nothing, so I don't seriously believe I have a legal right to a refund. However, I do think that for Skyhook doing things like this might not help their sales of future routes (etc), as people learn from experience.
Regarding what lcyrrjp said: While you might argue that a timetable change is less dramatic, it harkens back to the Tees Valley Preservation Crew drama for me. They either wanted to or at least discussed cutting the three-car 101s out of the timetable since it was found to be un- or less realistic for the depicted time. However, some (including me back then) specifically bought Tees Valley because it has a three-car 101 in its timetable. Bottom line is, changing features of a route, such as the timetable, post release quickly becomes very sketchy. The timetable timings are certainly a huge disappointment for me as I wasn’t aware of it when I took the plunge (mea culpa, I didn’t double check). I am certainly enjoying the scenery and included rolling stock though, although I prefer JT’s approach to simulating a guard on BPO’s 142 to Skyhook’s 158 - just too slow and cumbersome in my opinion. As a brief off-topic, I’m looking forward to running a kettle on it for our side project, lcyrrjp, matt#4801
Oh that reminds me, I must get round to doing that- I have made myself a scenario so I see a few other kettles whilst doing it!
Is this route still broken? I was going to buy this in the PS Store. There’s no way I’m touching it though if there’s random crashes happening still.
There’s certainly still something wrong, but I haven’t had any major issues so far. I’ve completed all of the scenarios and one 158 timetable so far. There was one crash on the HST Chasing Yellows scenario for me, which I didn’t reproduce (ran fine on a second try). Can’t give you a comparison to before since I only bought the route after the update.
I took the plunge and decided to pick this route up today, one word. Wow! The devs really made an incredible route. This might quickly become my most played route. I know this route has had its problems, so I can’t comment before the last patch/update. From the 10 services and 2 scenarios I played today in a mix of all weather conditions, all box’s were ticked apart from keeping to your schedule. It’s impossible to be on time. Every service I ran I was always 10+ minutes late. Hopefully that gets fixed soon. There’s plenty of freight and passenger services which bring lots of replay ability to the route. I had a lot of fun trying all the featured/layered locos available. I’d easily place this route in my top 3 favourite UK routes now. 1. SEHS 2. Blackpool to Preston 3. Midlane Mainline If I had one criticism it would be the GWR. A majestic beast such has herself needs plenty of track to stretch her legs. 30 or so miles just isn’t enough. This is why I prefer using the Class 158, as the journeys last longer. I really hope we get an extended version one day, similar to SEHS. TSW5 perhaps? lol, hmm. I remember Alex mentioning it on stream when the route first previewed, that they layered extra track for the team to revisit the route at a later date. I would love to see an extension to Sheffield if that was ever a possibility. Amazing job Skyhook
I’ve had a couple of forced brake applications on the hst today. One leaving Leicester as the speed limit increases, AWS warning on amber but cleared quickly then about 30 seconds past the light brakes applied, wouldn’t release either without shutting Off reverser and restart. Other one was on approach to Nottingham but way before any speed reduction and was going around 30 after clearing a yellow signal. Anyone else had this?
Extremely disappointed with this line simplicity of the scenarios and very short, poor display of speeds especially at the low speed depot, impossible to recover the finds 2 benches have disappeared at Syston station, malfunction of the doors when closing, non-unblocking of the reward for completing the scenarios as well as mastery for scenarios in climatic conditions When will there be a real correction?
That's not a malfunction on the class 158 sprinter. It is simulating the guard closing all but the local door to ensure nothing is trapped in the doors. The guard then closes the local door and presses the buzzer twice to signal to the driver that all is safe to depart.
No that didn’t happen, I only went to reset the reverser after I had waited for 2 mins. There also was nothing to trip. Especially the first one, no upcoming speed limit changes down and was after I’d passed a light which I’d previously acknowledged the aww warning.
Yes I had this on the chasing yellows scenario. Half a mile from Nottingham station, it sounded like the emergency brake activated on its own or the power just cut out, one of the two, I couldn’t make it out. Then I had to wait minute or two to recover the train. I’m glad I’m not the only one who experienced this.
Hello folks, Please see below the attached screenshots from real life and TSW4 on the MML route. The turnout in TSW4 is shown as a 40mph one but it is in fact a 25mph turnout in reality. The hud and track side signage is incorrect. It felt a little to much like a roller coaster to me so I checked a cab video between Nottingham and St Pancras on Youtube. The turnout is approching East Midlands Parkway from the Nottingham direction. Cheers. Graham
Just purchased this route in the winter sale, it's a good route with a lot of potential but sadly the AI generated timetable and slow door closing sequence on the Class 158 does ruin it somewhat - routes that are frustrating to drive simply aren't as fun. There really needs to be a freight layer (without needing to buy expansions) as the route in real life is synonymous with freight - it could have been a three train route like GWE is and amongst the better, more complete feeling routes in the game otherwise. There could also have been some AI only services using the Class 158 to add to the busyness of the route. Such services could include Liverpool Lime Street to Norwich via Nottingham, Nottingham to Skegness, Nottingham to Worksop and Derby to Crewe. Also, why are there so many 2+6 formation HSTs? As far as I am aware, EMT only ever operated 2+8 formations on their VP185 powered HSTs. The 2+6 short formation sets were the ex-Grand Central sets with MTU engines and buffers fitted to the power cars. Perhaps a bit pedantic, but having travelled this route in real life during the time it is set, having short formation HSTs everywhere is a little jarring
Those 2+6 HST formations are supposed to represent services ran by class 222s. Not ideal, but the route was very empty without the shorter HST sets. With all of the updates Skyhook are putting out for the route, I do hope to see a Meridian in TSW at some point.
