Can someone help me? I've been to UK a few times, rode on Underground trains and on the GNER high-speeds at the time. But I have never heard a 150 or a 385 in person. I see a lot of criticism of the sounds of these two, usually that they are "bad"; of course I don't know the difference and they seem "fine" to me. Can someone explain what specifically is bad about the in-game sounds of the WCL 150 and the Edinburgh-Glasgow 385? thanks
The 385 specifically in game sounds like a Vacuum Cleaner, and not like a train. I don't know if they mixed it wrong or something, but it sounds terrible. This mod for it sounds a lot closer to the real thing.
search youtube quite alot of videos on there and then compare to the sim you will soon realise the difference
The 150 is in an interesting situation. You see, the sounds that were implemented are from the Armstrong powerhouse pack (which you can view on YouTube) which sounds pretty spot on, but where it went horribly wrong is the way they were linked with the simugraph physics. Because Rivet got the physics so wrong it’s affected the sounds too.
What I find crazy is that there is a need for these mods in the first place. This game is marketted as extremely realistic
Sorry but DTG are stuffing up badly on sounds lately with the old excuses being trotted out, "no access", "couldn't source" but that doesn't excuse pee poor work when it comes to mixing them. Class 700 remains a disgrace as does the near silent Azuma and unless they changed things for the release version the DMU on Maintalbahn sounded nothing like a reference clip from the prototype. So long as the usual suspects just sit back and take it or come on to defend DTG, nothing will change. As I put in the NY Resolutions thread - an overhaul and if need be change of personnel in the audio department is a "must do" in 2024. 'cos even when they buy in decent sounds from AP etc., they still seem to make a hash of mixing them.
The 700 sounds attrocious sound wise 0 effort they took the desiro sounds from TSC and put it on the 700. The 801 i dont know how that got out of testing in that state
It's actually from a real 350, not tsc. It's all dtg had. Ap wouldn't give 700 dc sounds, only ac sounds. Dtg couldn't access a 700 either. I think it was only a static one, idk. Dtg also couldn't just not release it after spending tons of resources on it otherwise there would be a severe lack of variety if dtg only created trains that could record and recreate 100%. That means we would only see like 1 type of train and nothing else The 801 is also from ap. It's just quiet and running sounds aren't the best but I wouldn't know. The 801 dtg had access to was static only. They have been trying to work with lner and hitachi to record running sounds from a real 801.
They have to record from a train that has zero passengers to get clear recordings from all parts of the train like the interior, exterior, passenger cars, undercarriage, etc. People make a lot of noise and dtg can't tell people to get off because they are recording. Ideally it should be running on the mainline so they can get the full range of motion but that's not always possible because the company has a timetable to run and it can cause disruptions.
Yep, I'm eagerly awaiting it. I have only tried the route once in TSW4, and I had to stop because of how awful the default audio sounds.
