Well all I can say is the forums for MSFS are about the same tenor as they are here… Asobo is lazy, incompetent, don’t care about their customers and are just money grabbers now they are coming out with MSFS 2024…. And of course those who don’t agree….

    Just an observation

That will be the case for most video game forums, considering the more hard-core fans are the ones to visit the forums on a daily basis. And obviously these fans will know the game the best, including all of the issues - so we keep complaining.

I find TSW's frame rate on Xbox Series X pretty solid, mostly staying at or near 60 fps. Yes, there are occasional stutters, which I wish didn't happen, but it's nowhere near as bad as some people seem to be suggesting/insinuating (for dramatic effect?). By far the most annoying thing about TSW on Xbox is the clipping audio (please get the fix sorted, DTG!).

MSFS isn't as great as I wanted it to be. Yes, it's impressive when you first play it with all the photogrammetry enabled, but it gets tired quite quickly with dodgy airports, iffy aircraft models, no real ground friction modelling, etc., etc. The frame rates can also be extremely variable, especially when you add mods (which are limited on Xbox). You could easily pump hundreds or even thousands into MSFS to get it anywhere near where you'd ideally want it to be.

Asobo is in a different league to DTG in terms of resources and, at least as far as MSFS is concerned, they also have access to significant resources from Microsoft too. It's interesting that after supposedly rewriting a lot of the codebase to release MSFS 2020, they're basically throwing a lot of it away (again) and having another go with MSFS 2024.

Yeah solid 60 on older TSW2 routes, but fluctuates quite a bit on TSW3+ routes. I couldn't look at the background scenery without getting nauseous after a few minutes of it. Would be nice if they would sort it out as that (and maybe the nuclear lighting) are what kept me from staying on with the franchise.

Exact same experience for me as well - though I am playing on an older PC. Most TSW and TSW2 routes run very nicely on Ultra settings, while TSW3 routes tend to have much worse performance. Of course some performance difference is to be expected, because newer routes tend to have more dense scenery, they have more foliage and TOD4.

But I believe newer routes are simply much less optimized. Because they will run on an avarage of 40 fps for the most time, but then suddenly drop to below 20 out of nowhere at certain areas. The only other times I have seen anything similar happen was on certain routes, like Sherman Hill and the framerate killer grass (which was been since "fixed") or on Clinchfield Railroad with the boxcars causing framerate drops.

With all the rush to release add-ons as fast as they can, it's not surprising that they don't take the time to check these issues out and optimize assets properly where they should. So we end up with framerate issues, even though I believe we could be easily getting the same performance as on older routes if they took a bit more care optimizing their assets. Because if a single grass asset can tank your framerate to half, who knows what else is causing performance issues out of the hundreds of assets on a route.

SEHS lags for me, an appealing 3fps near Stratford.

Can't speak for Dresden as haven't played it much.

ECML doesn't lag either, then again, I haven't touched it seeing as it constantly crashes at Doncaster.

Happy to help bring it to 60 (fps or pages, doesn't matter). But that does bring up the question, when is the New Year recognized? GMT? Here in the US there are at least 4 celebrations (you could attend all four, if you could get a westbound plane that was fast enough) lol

Remember when Geraldo Rivera was going to sit in a boat on the International Date Line and be the first person to enter "Y2K" - - I was hoping his boat would drift a few meters east and he would actually be the LAST

Interesting discussion in this TSC thread about the somewhat parlours state of Focus Entertainment…

    https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/tsc-update.77469/

Surprised this hasn’t percolated through to the TSW discussions. Could go some way to explaining why we are seeing rushed and poor quality stuff like Maintalbahn or short projects like the forthcoming Goblin Line.

Then again Snowrunner is also published by Focus and must be a huge money spinner. Hopefully if Focus do go belly up, DTG can extricate their operation from the mess.

DTG's problems run far deeper than Focus, there are fundamental structural issues, their programming team isn't up to snuff, or just poorly managed, but them becoming independent of Focus won't fix anything.

How many years we are into TSW development, seven I believe, and the game really hasn't advanced that much since its first commercial incarnation in 2020.

Are we at a the watershed? Does DTG finally choose between substance and eye-candy? I.e. a rail transport simulation or just a locomotive control desk game?

It's probably still too early to tell whether the new owner Focus Entertainment will already have shifted the focus of TSW.

Structural issues and poorly managed, I agree, and this could mean a drastic change of conservative higher management staff might be in order to shake the chain up and give it a new life.

We'll see. Over the sale, none of my end-of-year allowance went to TSW, instead some independent developers for TSC got my money.
TSW in its current state just of more-of-the-same-fire-and-forget-DLC has lost my appeal.
Influx of new developers like JustTrains, virtualRailroads etc are needed to raise the quality and choice. So 2024 might well be the year of breakthrough or failure.

Focus took over when TSW4 came out right? Lets give them a chance and see what they do with TSW5. I think we should hold back on purchasing TSW5 until we see reviews

Great - since you have definitive inside information on future plans if the company- let us know what the next route will be as well when it will be released. Also, again because of your excellent liaison with DTG, what will be the cost and what routes will be released with said TSW5.

I am sure there will an upgrade to the TSW franchise but as to when, well that is nothing but speculation based on nothing but imperfect trending information. Just as I can predict Windows and Apple will upgrade their Operating systems sometime in the future. Thee timing is what unknown.

It was stated in publicly available documents (on Companies House I believe) that their plan going forward is for annual releases. Seems like good enough evidence for me.

Since I am not familiar with Companies House ( is it a public website, or a required reporting for publicly traded companies) could you provide a link to validate. It would eliminate many people stating it is just speculation.

Great, found the site and the company, but could not find anything in the latest financial filing indicating annual releases. Probably not looking in the right filings. Anyone care to give a hint where such information is to be found. Interesting, it is a Scottish company…. :)

Nothing about annual releases because that has only come from people here on this forum.

Interesting, they seem to have more of an insight into the workings of DTG than DTG themselves.
