I've never really considered this, until I noticed it on the Selhurst depot arrival road exit to platform 1. Seems rather harsh to me.
It says ‘catch points into third rail’. You can see it in the picture. The points that derail the train to stop it entering into the path of a fast moving train on the main line if it passes the signal at danger are directing the train directly into the third (power) rail. I think in real life there is a longer distance before the power rail begins.
Yeah the 3rd rail is to close after the points just had a look at google images and zoomed in from aboveand the live rail starts way beyond the trap point. I am guessing it is a sim limitation the way it is in sim.
You can't see where the catch point derailer rails end in Google Images, because there's insufficient detail at max zoom.
Ah, OK, your Google Image is higher resolution. How did you get that ? Link ? Mine was taken from Google Maps https://www.google.com/maps/place/S...91964!4d-0.0879473!16s/g/11g0h1jw_5?entry=ttu
Hmmm, that's weird. Must be some difference in how we're accessing it. I'm using Chrome on a PC, how about you ?
I get Daytona's resolution using Chrome on a Windows 11 PC, interestingly. It is either internet speed or Firefox, because my internet speed is awful!
I get the same lower res from Firefox. I suspect 390001's getting commercial level resolution without realising it.
I don’t think it’s related to Firefox or anything else, I tried it directly from the Google Maps App and jeez that’s terrible to see: But from the Apple’s Maps it’s ok (I can’t post a picture it’s too large in terms of data) Here’s a screenshot from Google Earth we can clearly see that the third rail is really far way from the derailment points:
