Did Dtg Give Up On Us Fright Routs Are They Not Profitable No More It Seems Like It's Just Been Pass

I would have to say licensing is an important part of TSW, letting down on that front is like asking for less content, which I ain’t about to do.

I'm not sure honestly, I do enjoy a good few U.S routes. Freight Routes can be a bit of a pain for me but nonetheless, I appreciate the scenery and the trains. What I do wish though is a good mixed freight and passenger route, feels like often we either get passenger OR freight... oh yeah and it'd be nice for some more Diesel Passenger trains like the new charger loco. :)

I think dtg are going the safer route rather than dealing with the consequences later down the line. I remember them saying that they tried to include a real life airplane in game as scenery, but the airline company knocked on their door and told dtg they can't do that. In tsc, dtg lost a license and had to remove the branding and content. So the transport companies do monitor. Not even the community seems to enjoy unlicensed content. Rivet game's island line 2022 got lots of poor reviews for not having the real life swr livery. Having a license opens up to a lot more stuff such as the reference trips where they can have access to the trains, record sounds and take photographs. You couldn't just take quick photos and recordings and call it a day.

I know an indie team called kishmish, who made metro simulator 2, got fined by the transport company for using their products in game without permission and called it illegal. The developers had to remove the content and create a fictional train from scratch to avoid more complaints and problems.

The sims you mention probably have better and closer relations with freight operators and the higher ups in the company or have freight engineers that are part of the development team who could provide assistance. I think searchlight simulation has all that which is why they can create extremely detailed and well simulated freight trains.

Even there is no Tri-Rail brand that route offers in TSC already CSX and Amtrak trains and would be more than enough good stuff for me (especially the P42 DC).

I just download liveries from creators club for example in CN oakville sub they have the passenger stations for GO transit VIA .so i found a few full GO and Via painted engines and cars to download off CC and just run them in free roam scenario planner ive done freight this way too on passenger focused routes .at least there is that better than nothing

Absolutely. That clarification is important. By generic, I'm not referring to a fictional route, but a prototypical route without specific company branding. Everything else is representative of the real world location.

I'm fine with this too, and I believe many more would be as well if it comes down to -you get route or you don't get a route- if licensing is the only barrier to releasing it.

i would ok with generic trains no official paint or logos but have real routes and on top could just use creators club stuff there are lots of great well done schemes ..also can look at it from a model railroad perspective they sell undecorated engines and cars then paint them your way...maybe too DTG has or had some great routes for US content but if cant score licenses then not going to happen

I can see why people would be after certain routes, but couldn’t because of current licensing status, but I think it will open up more lack of content on more fronts and I’m just not going to be convinced/change my mind on that because of that.

If it did and people ask for each route “does it include official license ?”, I can see we will probably start getting statements such as “not for this one” a lot more often, or similarly “it was going to take more time to sort that out for this route, so we didn’t include it” or “we have the license now but no plans to backdate any unbranded content with it”

I definitely think DTG would definitely take the easier path if it was more accepted to miss official licensing on routes where it could have been likely to obtain easier.

it’s also an issue as it’s not just the company logo, it’s the livery on the train, some can be made similar like the class 484 but still need to have major differences what are just wrong, and DTG may also put themselves way too close to the legal mark for any similar looking liveries meaning the whole livery would need to be fake or blank, then theirs the interior design as well, each company has their own, it would just all be wrong.

can’t rely on CC neither, some liveries are really complicated for such a system and not to mention essentially not legal to do, and could be removed at any time. DTG do have legal obligations to remove them.

each route has a chance at being in TSW or not, if their is no license then I see no harm and skipping it until their is, theirs plenty more routes out their to do in the meantime.

For one example take the class 801, then take away the LNER branding, that train would be quite bare, it’s full of LNER details.

I've downloaded CN liveries for SD70 ACE. Than I let a NS Tankertrain spawn at Oakville Yard. Than I let spawn 2 SD70Ace's with CN livery in Free Roam and let them couple on the top of the Tankertrain and drove that train till Hamilton Yard. It felt much more authentic compared with the short trains with the Geeps that we normally have at OSD only.

Tee shirts sold them at model train shows he had to get license to use rr logos he said he had to pay a fee to 1 and the other wanted a small fee for each item sold with their logo

If DTG can't give us new freight routes, perhaps they could enhance the current freight routes in TSW. Especially they could add 50 car + freight trains to Sand Patch Grade, Oakville Subdivision, Clinchfield Railroad, Cane Creek Subdivision (perhaps AI trains at the mainline between Thompson and Brendel), Boston Sprinter, New York Trenton, and Antelope Valley Line.

In the meantime a lot of us will do that at Free Roam. :)

If DTG doesn't think they can sell a new freight route, why would they spend money upgrading old freight routes and giving them away?

They could still do it and charge a fee. Then people will complain.

    A lose lose situation.

I would pay some money for refitted GE dash 8,9,Gevo and EMD locos pack substituted correctly in existing routes. There is huge quality contrast between locos, like between (nice) ES44C4 and (rubish) ES44AC / AC4400UP (thanks SHG :/)

Not to mention not every single piece of stock is at the same standard, some are missing features or are not really compatible with other locomotives.

There are still some wagons from NEC New York and the GP40-2 pack that could be added back but haven't been. I'd like to see them come back.

The only thing missing is the Coil car, the trash containers are available in Horseshoe Curve, but rarely make an appearance as they only show up in 1 service (25W)

  19. Well I think a freight route is about to be announced. Should see the announcement before February 27th. (I'm guessing on patterns and roadmaps ok so no baseless accusations please).

Every 3rd route is a freight route.

I suspect it is Donner Pass. It could be Marias Pass as well.

So we should see an announcement by early February and the route put on sale around the 27th.

    This is just speculation ONLY.

Because New York Trenton was a recent route I am discounting any New York area release until 2025, possibly July 2025. I could be wrong as there seems to be huge demand for New York railways. And DTG make their decisions based on market estimations.

Saying that, they can't keep doing the same area or they will receive endless complaints, such as "why wasn't my area done, you just keep doing NY?" etc....

How did you even get that conclusion that it will be announced before a very specific date? Even if you go by trends, just because x dlc got announced at a specific date doesn't mean it'll be the same exact date for everything else that releases. Even though you say speculation, you sound extremely confident x thing is releasing.

For the us, considering the current licensing situation, you only really have east Coast or West Coast. Mta, njt, mbta, Amtrak, njt for East. Metrolink for California. Caltrain is just one route and the only other thing dtg could do is electrification which isn't even complete irl yet. They can only do so much before they run out of ideas so they can't not release something from the same area. If dtg only released freight in 2024, it wouldn't be fun.

Anyways we know Brandon aka cactusjuice who did the signaling on Boston has teased he's been working on a contract with dtg since the summer which means it's most likely going to be something in the new york/nec area. We also know he mentioned in a discord I think that the us teaser couldn't be released because something happened.

I wasn’t a particular fan of them tbh, I don’t see why they had to do codes and not just say what info they were up for releasing.

    It's the same with licenses.

People say DTG have lost a license, it gets repeated as fact yet DTG say nothing.

Exact same thing happens to me, I don’t really believe a word of it and I just keep getting told it’s true then no answer for where they got that from, and they wonder why I don’t believe them :D

Dtg Liam did recently confirm on the tsc Discord that dtg no longer have a gwr license.

This does not surprise me, with the way GWR stock is represented in TSW. Non working wipers. If that was my company, I wouldn't allow DTG to use it too.

Well here's my 10 cents of a bet, after the freight layer that's been done on Antelope Valley (amongst other things) don't think they're gonna get back doing freight focused routes anytime soon from what's been said with Matt on the forums (give or take). And I would not be surprised at this point if the next route after this one would also be passenger focused as well, whether if it has freight layered in or not.
Why? Because it's DTG, they love making passenger routes for everyone, and their highest interest no matter what.

Sherman Hill lost its track 3, and hasn't really been touched with DLC aside from the half arsed Heritage Pack.
Cajon Pass was expected with the BNSF license issues being resolved, but it suffers heavily in the scenery department.

Donner Pass from Roseville to Reno is 140+ miles. 140 MILES compared to 58 miles of Sherman Hill or 85 miles of Cajon Pass. Even cutting it down to Truckee puts it to only 100ish miles. On top of that, the route splits twice. Once from Rocklin to New Castle, then from New Castle to Bowman.

Donner also literally has nothing to do on it aside from A-B runs, there is literally no industries along the line. So half the Services are Notch 8 snoozefests thru trees......

Marias is also long. 152 miles in its TSC form. And do you really want to cut that down? Whitefish and Shelby are 2 great endpoints for the route, and cutting it down would hamper the route experience.

No, the IRL Dirt train uses specialized containers and spine cars for those movements.

If passenger service is such a requirement, why not do one of the Amtrak corridor services out of Chicago? BNSF runs to Quincy (IL), UP to St. Louis, CN to Carbondale (IL), NS to Detroit, and CSX to Grand Rapids (MI). All of those use P42's or SC-44's on their passenger services, and all the freight companies have been licensed at one time or another in TSW. Each route sees at least six Amtrak trains and usually 20-60 freight trains a day.

Also, the open fields and flat running will minimize route creation time, and give us some experience running on something other than a mountain, which would make a longer route (70-100 miles) much easier to do.

Probably because of the low passenger count if you make it a passenger focused dlc. When antelope released, players weren't a fan of the low amount of passenger services which was inflated since it was divided into parts.

Because no Amtrak-only route would have enough traffic density to be more than a bad joke, and you can't fill in commuter traffic around Chicago without the license from Metra, which DTG don't have.

Each of those has Amtrak state-sponsored services running on them. Obviously each freight railroad runs with their freight locos, but each of those four routes, while owned by the freight railroads, has Amtrak services utilizing P42 and SC-44 locos.

In regards to the Metra services, the Chicago-Aurora TSC route used (uses?) blanked-out decals to remove the Metra name, so that is unlikely to be an issue in TSW if need be. Especially of the selling point of the route focuses more on the host railroad and Amtrak.

Really the only place DTG could open up right now is Los Angeles, they just have to put the effort into using that Amtrak/Pacific Surfliner references they got when they visited during the Metrolink trip.

DTG has stated multiple times they will not do unbranded routes for TSW. So unless a 3rd party steps in, you probably won't see Chicago in TSW unless a Metra license is aquired.

The metra route in tsc was made by a 3rd party, not dtg. Idk how the licensing deal worked out but unless dtg get a license, they won't make it for tsw. Unless there was a moment in history where it went unbranded in real life

Yes but that's not what most people want. They want a train that they can see in real life...

If they can get reference to the actual train and get sound recordings from. Not too many exist today.

There are still plenty around, So getting references isn't that hard.

The hard part is getting correct sounds for the pair of 12-567Cs that run them.
