Don’t get me wrong, I think the modeling and sounds are excellent but it’s unfortunately plagued with many bugs. Especially when spawning one in Free Roam. For one, there’s no way to manually set the tail lights for the end of the train. Which I didn’t think would be an issue since I believe they’re supposed to turn on automatically when the master key is unlocked. But yet they remain off. Front of train: Back of train: As a result AI trains on Luzern-Sursee show no headlights OR taillights when in service mode. Don’t even think they display a destination. Another one I’ve noticed, when using a keyboard, the command that allows you to switch ends without leaving the cab (CTRL +/-) does not seem to work at all until you stand up and it spawns you in the middle of the train for some reason. So weird. I don’t recall this happening with any other train in the game. As a consumer I’m not impressed with Rivet’s work at all with Train Sim World. I really question why DTG still insists on doing business with them. I wonder if the upcoming Bernina Line will set a new precedent but I am not optimistic.
So no taillights in free roam (i think you can even activate them by pressing a button in the rear cab, theyre just not on by default) and a shortcut not working justifies declaring it a total desater? Yeah the 523 is far from perfect but that statement seems a bit steep, doesnt It?
Rivet have some decent dlc and although they need work, wouldn't say their work is a total disaster. If it actually was, nothing would work, you would get crashes every second or they left entire scenery elements out or something was completely wrong. It sounds like you are overexaggerating. The camera issue actually affects many other routes. Some recent update broke it, but if you press 1 to get back to the cab, it seems to fix it according to what I read. Issues with free roam are also a core thing. It's not just this particular unit. It's many others as well.
You are mistaken. The only button in the rear cab that can activate any form of exterior lighting is headlights (which do not activate tail lights), emergency headlights, and marker lights which I think you may be confusing for tail lights. That’s not all either. I haven’t even mentioned the horrid implementation of ETCS and seemingly little to no interest on Rivet’s behalf of fixing it. I would say that more than justifies a disaster. There is a standard that products should be held up to. This one is not and hasn’t been for years. Considering how old this particular piece of content is and that many consumers like you and I have spent hard earned money on it, do you not expect it to, at the very least, function the way it is advertised and intended? Rivet doesn’t have the greatest track record with past DLCs either… Why are so many of you so complacent in things not working correctly if at all?
Clearly you and I have different definitions of what should and shouldn’t be considered decent. There should never be any workarounds to get basic things to work the way are meant to. But I am happy to know it’s not this particular unit but no so happy to know it’s indeed affecting multiple units… can’t blame Rivet for everything I suppose. EDIT: grammar
The issues you consider a "disaster" are DTG issues. I enjoy everything Rivet have done so far, they have superb modelling, many extra features and I also have no issues with the 150, I've heard the sound's not correct but that's also true for many other locos. Also Rivet make very enjoyable scenarios, like the full driver shift on WCL Class 37. Rivet are not Skyhook. And ETCS hasn't been implemented anywhere correctly or at all so far. That RABe was done long before Freeroam came, and a loco must be set up for this to work. Many DTG locos refuse to work in Freeroam too.
So it’s okay that Rivet is bad because DTG and Skyhook are also bad? Do you not see the issue with that way of thinking? And as far as I know, DTG was not responsible for the production of the 523, the implementation of accurate sounds, physics, modeling, and ETCS. That honor belongs to Rivet Games. As does every issue that comes with it. (Aside from free roam, obviously) But nowhere did I say I didn’t enjoy anything Rivet’s ever made, in fact I do quite enjoy the 523 when it works. As well as the 150/2, the RhB Ge 4/4 ii, and so on. I’m pointing out various glaring issues that many players face particularly with this one specific piece of content and others made by them. That paired with the characteristic slow response to fix them or just flat out ignoring them for whatever reason doesn’t paint Rivet in a good light. The one and only route that has ever made it into TSW that has any form of ETCS was Luzern-Sursee. It was one of the main selling points of the route and many players were excited about it, and rightfully so. It’s a great feeling to learn and master new safety systems, like GNT on the Chemnitz route for example. The problem is it doesn’t work. It hasn’t worked since launch and continues to not work. Like you said though, nowhere else has ETCS been implemented so do you not think, if done correctly, it could’ve been a huge achievement for Rivet? Wouldn’t that have given them a brand new reputation?
So yes, in a way the whole game is a disaster. But rants are for the Enough Is Enough! thread They're not perfect, but there's no reason to question their engagement in TSW. Freeoam - Core issue Cab change - core issue AI Lights - problematic also on other routes - probably also not Rivet's fault but a core issue. I can operate the RABe and it's working well and looking fine, even without ETCS support. It's not a disaster, period. It's a clickbait thread title.
That's not the point being made. Yes, the RABe 523 has problems. As does the Route (which, btw, the ETCS implementation belongs to, not the train.) The point that TF was making was that calling it a "disaster" of an EMU is a very overblown description. The only true "disasters" in TSW so far have been the 187 and, possibly the 1938 Tube Stock. Maybe the 150 if we're pushing it. I don't think anyone will argue the RABe 523 is perfect. And I don't think anyone is complacent about it either.
Again, you can’t justify issues with one company because the others are bad. Those 3 issues are core issues, fine. Doesn’t excuse the others. You may get enjoyment out of limited operability but I and many others do not. EDIT: the whole of TSW is far from a disaster. Namely the areas touched by Rivet I would say are close. Just Trains has come out with arguably the greatest route in the history of the TSW franchise. TSG with Niddertalbahn as well. Both are great. Should you really have to hope that the things you spend money on work as they should or should you simply expect it?
Even if you were to excuse the term disaster and instead use the word problematic, it’d still be too harsh for you. If it can power up and not crash the game it’s perfect, right?
And what if it is my opinion that the RABe 523 is a disaster. What if I consider seemingly simple things like working tail lights and destination boards the most important thing that must come with every piece of DLC. Am I objectively wrong? Or am I holding this “sim” at too high of a standard?
Look, this forum is not about discussing a "Spikee" or a user named "rohr". If you are having trouble, file a bug report. If you don't like it I won't argue with you. I have a feeling what kind of discussion you want to pull me into, and I'm not interested. The thread title is a statement which is either TRUE or FALSE, which is a different thing than an opinion. Opinions can be different while being TRUE. Night.
You’re free to do whatever you like with your time and so am I. The forums is a place of discussion not mindless bootlicking. Someone with as many trophy points and countless hours spent on these forums should know that not everyone is happy about everything TSW produces and a simple discussion shouldn’t devolve into arguing just because you don’t like what you read.
Accurate and very high quality are traits I would only apply to the modeling and sounds of the train which I have prefaced my first comment with. Beyond that it gets a bit muddy.
I’m afraid it isn’t. If that was your point you’d agree that Rivet should be held accountable for its subpar products, yet you remain willfully ignorant.
Perhaps I am missing something but is broken release after broken release not a perfectly sound reason to question their engagement in TSW?
Someone is always going to disagree with you. I think disaster was probably the wrong word to describe it. Could have named it feedback thread and you might have gotten better responses.
Not too bothered by the responses. I am more bothered by the distinct lack of care that’s apparent in every piece of Rivet-produced content and the community just shrugging it off as “well DTG as a whole isn’t so great so why expect third party devs to be great?”. Would’ve gotten similar responses regardless of how it was worded. I’m not as new to these forums as my badges may suggest.
The main problem with the product is that the route is too short, could have done with being two or three times the length to get a longer run.
I like the fact Rivet did the first ever SBB route in TSW. Their FLIRT looks great! The textures are well done, 3D modelling is top notch and the scenarios were not too bad. But as said above, the route length is a letdown. On the other hand, the timetable is as well. But that was to be expected, as there are no layers availbale. I'm sure Rivets next SBB route will feature the FLIRT again, then with another new trains, and that timetable will be better. But there was no way for Rivet to make Luzern properly busy, as we don't have any other SBB stock available.
You know that won't happen. At least I think Rivet never done that. Other 3rd parties and DTG do it every now and then tho.
I think if they included a PZB/DE version of the FLIRT, then it would have made up for the lack of route content.
Totally agreed. Would’ve been fantastic to really stretch its legs and feel like you’re actually going somewhere.
I'm not necessarily against routes that come with one new train but only if a suitable route is chosen that can also use existing rolling stock. Regarding Swiss content, you can have one new train, then add the ubiquitous Flirt and another obvious addition would be the TGV (updated ideally to a Euroduplex) etc.
This! It also would’ve made more sense with route compatibility as it layers on the ÖBB route and could potentially layer on to other routes that have PZB in the future.
Slightly off-topic but how cool would it be to have a TGV/TER route kinda like the German routes with the ICE and S-Bahn services
Would be great! Regarding Swiss routes, I'd like to see Geneva included then you'd have a lot of interesting services ranging from the Flirt to the TGV; I'd also like to see Italian content as well such as the stunning ETR 610! All pictures taken by me
So cool! I agree the ETR 610 is a beautiful train. If we ever get an Italian route I hope it is included!
I stopped playing Luzern and this train when I noticed how broken ETCS is... ETCS and that train were the main reasons I got the DLC, and it disappointed me... the only DLC I dont play at all :/
Yeah I don’t play it nearly as much as I used to. I’d sooner run the 10 minute services on the Vorarlberg route only using integra than the full length line runs on Luzern-Sursee with a broken ETCS… so unfortunate.
I dont really see a point in playing those super short services, but thats my choice... I play only stuff around 30 mins or more, exceptions being stuffz like Hauptstrecke Rhein Ruhr and Rhein Ruhr Osten, where IC services are like 25-30mins and some stuff on certain UK routes around 20mins it's like... you spend a minute or two setting up the train and then what, 5mins of driving? nah personally I prefer services starting at around 40-45mins and up... one of things I like about Antelope Valley is the length of the complete run (yes it is slow, but still nice) - what I dont like there is the super benevolent signalling, but thats for a different thread lol anyway, if they did even loooong routes, but ones that would be enjoyable, I wouldnt mind even longer runs
I don’t play the route too much, not really at all for a while, though a long term issue not resolved is at this point is just another one on the list… crazy how they leave this stuff. it was the first Swiss route that never put me entirely off, Arosa I passed on when I seen the scenery, Luzern was also a route where it seemed the On board PIS worked, which was a rarity at the time (still is to some degree) so that was a positive.
It’s more for the sake of completion. The services are there so I want to complete them. Obviously when given a choice between a 10 minute service or a 45 minute one I’d go for the longer one. But in this case I’d only justify it by saying I like playing as realistically as I possibly can. An ETCS that doesn’t function properly unfortunately isn’t realistic (AFAIK) The 465 is a great example too. A super fun train to drive with brilliant sounds and physics but most of the services are <15 minutes. Not a problem for me because I really enjoy the train and hearing the traction motor noises when stopping and starting, messing around with AWS, you name it. If I feel it’s not enough to get my Train Sim fix, I’d simply do a couple more runs. About those super looooong routes, I’m not too sure I’d do well with those as sometimes I struggle to keep focus with some of the ones I have now (Ask how many times I’ve nearly fallen asleep on Sherman Hill or Kassel-Würzburg )
I mean... if I got Wien - Salzburg in its whole glorious length, I would shoot through the roof, then come back, grab tons of popcorn, sit down and enjoy whole 4+ hrs of it I'm sure that if they made some of your dream routes in its entirety, you would also gear up with some coffee and drive it in one sitting with joy
Oh yes indeed. My dream route would definitely be the red or blue lines on the Washington Metro (WMATA). But to be a bit unrealistic for a moment; I’d love to see the system in its entirety in glorious TOD4 lighting. All 6 lines, 98 stations, and 129 miles/248 km of track… That would be fantastic…
I have popcorn ready for Rivet's Class 170. Forums are going to get "interesting" when Fife Circle launches.
