Okay, I give up, I never said anyone is forbidding me to enjoy TSW. You should try politics! I would like to see your statistical evidence which alludes to this "majority" though.
I do not understand all these comments, assuming this route will be bad. It is not out yet, there are no reviews based on actual gameplay and we even do not have a preview stream showing off what you get. The only hard fact is that it will be shorter than we hope for. If it is all that bad, this is not a problem, you don't want it. If it is good, you can still enjoy what you get a lot and you never know what happens in future. If you think this is bad and still want to own it, be happy it is short, you waste less money. You also can be happy this route exists at all, given all advice to Rivet to pull the plug out of TSW development. So what do we want? It also definitely is OK that you grab the editor and do a better job. We still need the tracks from say Chur to Zermatt. Nice hobby project and you can show you can do a far better job that Rivet can.
It is as predictable as the sun rising. A new product is previewed and the core “negatators” jump all over it like a pack of wild dogs nitpicking the littlest detail they can find in the video, complain about the price, question the decision to build the route in the first place, call the devs money grubbing and lazy and question why any sane person would buy the product. Did I miss any of the common complaints? I think we should number them to make it quicker to write about new releases: 1. Wrong starting/ending points 2. Sounds are all wrong 3 scenery looks flat 4 it is by (enter developers name) 5. It is too expensive 6. It is the wrong era 7. It has the wrong loco / DMU or not enough new Loco / DMUs so a new product is announced all one has to do is list the problems like : new route name. 5, 4 1 would save sometime tongue in cheek for those who suffer from humor impairment disorder.
It looks good from what I have seen of it. It does seem a little short to be honest but I will see what I feel after the stream. People can have their own opinion but you would think some of those calling for Rivet to stop producing content are speaking for us all or have some evidence to back up their opinion. But, as usual that isn;t the case.
You haven't said it directly, but at least for me, your statements (those I marked in bold) indirectly say that.
I haven't implied it either. They don't indirectly say that at all. I think there are some who have a issue with people who are enjoying the sim. People have been criticised for it, I was called mad by someone who then flounced off like a ten year old. That is a far cry from being forbidden!
This is complaining until the last men standing on the battlefield "wo wont stop until the last bug is mentioned"
They rarely go away period, complaining or not, at best you'll just get a stock response like "we will do better" or "we hear you"
I've said it before, and i stand by it- this game has the worst community of any game i play. I play a lot of video games across just about all genres, but the consistent negativity that's on display in these forums takes the cake. Even Star Citizen, which is a literal scam, has a more positive community. Being so angry all the time is bad for your health, if nothing else. P.S. obligatory "i get angry at DTG too sometimes" caveat
I can't really blame people for a lot of negativity, considering the overall state of the sim. When serious bugs go sometimes over a year without being fixed (if they are ever), the increasing of prices along with the decreasing of quality/polish. It's really not surprising that the community is negative.
I'm not unhappy or negative, but critical. Funnily, it's mostly the people that criticise the negativity that are starting ugly personal fights. That's negativity! The "Enough is Enough" thread shows more maturity than most other threads in here. Imho.
Unfortunately there are those that can't seem to understand this simple fact. Ironically those that criticize the people that have criticisms start name calling and go into personal fights as shown in this thread ironically. I too have been enjoying this game as well despite some of the flaws when I do play it, but there are those that complain about negativity or the criticisms as if it's just random or has no justification in the first place when that is simply not the case. Being critical about the price for instance is quite fair. $40 which would buy me a new game seems overpriced for a route that has a short length and one train Not to mention the history of Rivet Games is bound to draw some sort of skepticism, criticisms or negative responses given all the issues that plagued their previous content that have not been sorted. Now sure we don't have to buy it, but that doesn't mean people can't have their views if they are positive or negative. If a person doesn't like what is said, they can ignore it.
+1 to the two posts above. I actually really enjoy TSW albeit admittedly I am distracted by doing a bit of testing for someone in TSC and also playing ETS2, now I got ProMods working. But the majority of content I have in TSW is quite enjoyable, even Rivet's WCL provided you avoid the 150/2 and don't look too close at the scenery. And I have actually in the past defended Arosa against criticism, at certain times of the day it looks very nice and there's no doubt the effort that went into creating all the custom structures. But the point is, Arosa is the full route - if Rivet had done Chur to Langwies or Arosa to Luen-castiel citing they had "focused on the most interesting part", it would have been a laughing stock.
Arosa is super nice using light to heavy snow. You just need a bit of fog And yes, I preordered Bernina. Because it's an iconic route, and we all know that TSW is restricted for economical reasons and can't produce routes with length as we want. I'm sure there'll be gameplay packs later for Bernina, adding historical stock. (And I do enjoy the TSC versions still, TSW was never a follow up. They are coexisting side by side nicely.)
I will stick to my guns on this one I think and wait for a sale. My experience travelling on the line was in the 4x and 5x railcars or the correct type coaches they hauled so if that had been the motive power rather than the Allegra I might have folded. I've still got a copy of the old MSTS version which runs quite nicely in Open Rails, so there really is no big incentive to buy this.
This is what I'm waiting for. Karlsruhe - Rastatt - Freudenstadt. The spectacular Murg Valley which I know very well. Most valuable MSTS route for me personally. And yes, it looks great in OpenRails. DLC from a time without licensing madness, real photo textures and companies included. (But of course also from a time without GoogleEarth, route building was much harder back then.) "FORREST"! Gump...
Oh, that took me back. Still got it standing in my shelf You'll want Openrails instead of the very original MSTS nowadays. Obviously, to say the graphics are dated is the understatement of the decade, but there's still good stuff you only find there. For example, around a year ago, I found some of the electrified Milwaukee Road sections (that I'd love to get in TSW) with a whole host of rolling stock all as freeware. Incredibly well done, too, considering the restrictions of the old tech.
Take a look here and here. The videos show you what it looks like. The descriptions will lead you to where you can get it all. I was amazed when I found it.
There's no pleasing everybody. When Arosa released some people threw their toys out of the pram because it was the Ge 4/4 and not the Allegra. I don't think we'll ever get the Brand New Trains and Old Classic Trains fans to agree on this sort of issue.
True. Personally I can't be excited about the Allegra, but I do remember many people asking for it previously, so I understand why they chose it.
The Allegra is probably slightly more appealing than a British Electrostar but given my journeys on the Bernina Line were in the 80’s and early 90’s with the classic railcars and, apart from the BEX stock, the original passenger coaches with rather firm plastic seats, in second class anyway. One of my trips also had one of the electro diesel locos on the front - hellfire! Regardless of the truncated route I just don’t think driving the Allegra will give quite the experience the older stock could have done.
The first page has someone calling those who buy TSW4, DTG's sheep! I think the term DTG being lazy features fairly early on. There is some good discussion on there although going round in circles. There is a fair bit of infantile backbiting though.
Lazy is definitely the wrong word, I would go with rushed/sloppy when describing quite a few of the routes that have come out. But that isn't down to the developers who probably hate releasing stuff like that, it's down to whoever is setting the clearly too short deadlines.
Indeed lazy is not the right work, though I sometimes feel there is a bit of complacency surrounding the operation. Whether that permeates down to the coalface staff I hope not, though whether outsourced content production in Eastern Europe or Asia has quite the same level of engagement is probably questionable.
Watched the preview stream out of morbid curiosity. Would have been tempted to purchase if the full line from St Moritz had been modelled, but as is, it’ll be a “pick up in a Steam sale”. To be fair scenery has definitely improved since Arosa but am not inspired by the limited operations.
I had this route in MSTS along with Glazier Express and both were favourites. Unable to play MSTS under Windows 11 so I would be pleased to hear how Rivets version compares. After watching tonight’s stream to me it didn’t give me a rush to purchase. The route is far too short and there were scenery deficiencies, as there are with every Rivet route.
As expected my curiosity got the better of me. The route looked fantastic, great scenery and attention to detail. A very unique experience. I won’t be buying this though, as the tram style scenic routes lose the appeal to me very quickly. Just like Arosa, I’d run a few services on it and it would bore me. It doesn’t have the replay ability like the majority of TSW routes have imo. This is why I’ll never buy Tram sim either. I hope who buys it, enjoys it though.
How long does it take to run this new route end to end? Arosa gave us a good hour of gameplay going full length. If this one turns out to be short AND quick I think it will leave many people upset or just staying away altogether.
One hour and 40 minutes, about as long as a football match including half time oranges. A long service by anyone’s standards for a TSW passenger route.
I probably should know better as I rode the route IRL years ago. But I recall now that it was a pretty slow moving route in that section. An hour and 40 indeed is a long one for TSW content.
Go buy it, play it and tell us how much you enjoy it then? Many of us are waiting for another unbiased review before parting with their money. Just to anger the moaners and give DTG a heads up ...
"Buying bad DLC to own the libs." Anyway, I do agree that it does not look like a bad route. The distant mountains finally look like they should on a route such as this, the Allegra seems nicely made and the announcements are very nice. The several type of cars included alongside the Allegra is also very good. Sadly for me many smaller issues add up alongside the usual TSW graphics problems. Personally I can't be interested in the Allegra, but I may still be interested if it was at least a full route. Or I could be interested even in the current routr if it included the older stock instead of the Allegra. But with the Allegra and the half route, then a bunch of graphical issues on top, sadly it is a no from me. I would also like to see a RhB route that is flatter and allows for higher speeds, because this one and Arosalinie feel way too similar. So I do hope we will see other parts of the RhB network in the future.
Aside from my grumbles about some of the basics not being done right (which, to be fair, is probably as much about failings in the core of the game than anything else…still no excuse though) this route looks very good & I’m looking forward to it. I agree though that it’s too short.
