That's just an assumption. You'd be surprised to find out how old some of the players are.

And, a long route doesn't mean each service has to be end-to-end. Just more variety.

I don't like a route to end five minutes after I've brought my HST to full speed. Let me travel.

But that's why I pushed them to fix the major red light bug on save games, so now I can save and pick up again tomorrow.

So, keep the longer routes coming :)

They could always have done with a full length Bernina what DTG did with AVL. Some of the services split at a logical halfway point (not Ospizio) with others going through and take your chance with the save game, which generally works okay in those circumstances.

Exactly this, if they had done that I would be picking it up for £30. Now I'm not picking it up until it's at most reduced to £15.

if a route is short like the IOW in real life, then that’s all good

but if it’s say for example the WCML, then longer the better, always the save button if you don’t have the time to complete in one go.

That would require a working save function, but that was another thread!

In fairness to DTG the save does work fairly consistently now. Only time it falls over is if you chain onto a subsequent run from your first one by returning to the train or a station, then save and load. The objective etc data fails to restore. But for just resuming the run you started works fine.

Can someone explain to me what a Dovetail “Ambassador” is? Just caught a video from some cheerful sounding northern lad called “TinTin”’and he dropped the clang more than once that he was one.

It's a Youtuber / twitch streamer that gets the DLC for free and does some advertising for DTG by showcasing TSW on their channel. I don't know what qualifies (amount of followers maybe) for becoming an ambassador.

TinTin_57 is active here, maybe he can tell us a bit more.

Lovely stuff! Great channel TinTin_57! I was curious as it’s not something I was aware of, although not being a streamer or YouTuber, there will be no freebies here!

And there is always a suspicion, perhaps an unfair one, that Ambassadors will not be totally unbiased in their assessment of a new product (i.e. don't be afraid to mention the warts as well) lest it jeopardise their chances of remaining in the role.

I've had it fail when I loaded a save on clinchfield in tsw4. The engine completely shut off and couldn't get it on.

Actually now you mention it think I had something similar but with dynamic brakes. However *most* times then (!) it works fairly well.

I guess this is why they added the "reset everything" (whatever it's called) button in the options menu. I've not been in a situation to try it yet.

Edit: Unless that doesn't even work in this situation.

SPG also has some issues regarding the save game. After painfully setuping all the locos, messing with the bank options, if I reload the game all the DPU settings seems to reset. Having some scenarios with way over one hour, it's a chore to finish then in just one sitting.

It's a shame, because I love driving freight trains.

Thanks mate, yes as we have our own existing channels, DTG invite us to join their programme. They don’t ask us to say anything, just for us to provide a place to play the games. If you watched the one I did last night you can probably tell I just call things as I see them, I’ll quite openly tell you what I don’t like…..as I do with all the non DTG stuff I also play

Yikes it took me a whole 3 minutes to turn on and turn off that Bananalinie stream. As expected the preview video from the other day shows a nice cherry picked detailed mountain. But in actuality you see something not much different than the Arosa line. A few more trees though to cover the ugliness. And not, their fault, but damn TSW4 is as ugly as ever. Draw distances for details and track shadow a few feet in front of the train and a lagfest for frame rates. First time I've tuned in to one of these streams in many many months, but seems to confirm nicely that I have smartly saved a lot of money. Now we wait and see if DTG has the know how to turn things around with the next version.

They've explained it is what it looks like in real life. In and near ospizio, there aren't a lot of trees in real life. You get more down the line. It's still better than arosa because of lidar imo

I´m not a big fan of Switzerland and I´ll have to check the TSC route on Youtube to make a compariosion.... but I thought the route actually looks quite nice to be honest. Definitly better than mountaines routes in TSC. Lidar definitly makes difference and I also thought Voralberg looked decent.
Still does not change the fact that we have much more complete network with more rolling stock in TSC.

just watching the first 10 mins of the stream and it looks absolutely dreadful, like worse than I'd ever imagined. the texturing on the platform is non-existant, the close scenery looks broken, the rocks are terrible and have no blended border and none of the collectibles worked. When it starts out there is a building in front of the train and the roof looks completely bugged.

That road on the left looks like something out of Trainz 2006, doesn't even look to be touching the terrain. I know this is only a snapshot but even the MSTS version managed to look better than this.

Yeah, I saw that also, no pizza for you :) and what map?, no! you get no map to look at :) And everything is so washed out, overly bright! but I searched on Google. to see what the area looks like.

I always had a soft spot for Rivet as they seemed like a team that was trying their best. But it's either they lack the talent or they are just given terrible tools to craft with. I mean you're not going to make a priceless vase out of cow manure.

I could kind of get past the trees / mountain look as I do with Arosa, but just the overall look of TSW4 is just gross to my eye. No clue why a "modern game" should be rendering details that close to the eye. Makes everything look amateurish.

Seems more of a path IRL than a road. Rivet's version is like an ice cream truck spilled soft serve down a hill :D

the gauges looked overly bright to the point I couldn’t read them when I saw them on the stream (1080p mode)

the path seen above obviously isn’t right but compared to TSW’s other issues it’s a massive non issue in comparison. They are probably well over a 100 paths in TSW by now using that asset when it looks different in real life, I ain’t going to say the routes broken cause that one joins the list… :D edit: well if they want to improve them all, that’s good (arguably not significant improvement to a players experience but still an improvement) but one really ain’t worth next to anything.

The texturing truly is horrible for the scenery assets. Everything looks like a plastic diorama.

As others have pointed out, the rock objects clipping into the platform concrete or the grass without any blending also looks horrible.

Also the lighting and the shadows inside the canopy cover things... They look very bad. Could have done it with shadows baked into the textures instead of trying to rely on real time shadows. The end result is horrible looking as it is right now.

Disgusting. This lava flow like street texture must be the only thing I hate on DRA. Because it´s there as well.

And it might partly explain why many still love the old routes and their charme.
Below is from MSB and it clearly shows that it can be done better. This was worked with love for detail, no doubt.

So I was surprised that I received any reply: I omitted the names because it's about the game and the statement, not the person.
    --
I posted to the comments section of the stream:
Everything is overly bright and washed-out looking. some collectibles are not working, and the Gauges and display are too bright and so green that you can barely make it out.

    Answer #1
bright and washed out is a side effect of using the tod4 lighting. Not only this route, but other routes as well
--My Answer: With all due respect, I can't buy that for a Dollar, Not when I see what the modding community can do and has done. And not Just TSW...

    Answer #2
This is NOT the product you are going to buy (or not). This is a preview product, a dev product, a not finished product. Give them some time to fix these things.
--My Answer: This is from the Steam Store page - SPECIAL PROMOTION! Offer ends January 16 this would indicate it's in the can and just about ready to ship. I can't buy that for 1 Dollar.

This is a reply to answer #2
bro this stuff will not get fixed. What you see here will be the final product.

Then I came across this video.
    Game Development Caution
And while this may be a bit off-topic, Maybe! I don't think so. How much of what is stated in this video is driving TSW game development as a whole?

As well as TSW2020 while it has its faults also, many things look much better in it.

    Amateurs...

And they expect us to just hand over £30 without a second thought.

The washed out look permeates most routes at the wrong time of the day, even BPO. Something fundamentally wrong with how DTG have implemented lighting in UE4, going from the sticky black tar over everything in TSW2 to the supernova effect in 3 and 4.

DTG really need to put some more options into the menu, things that can only be changed on PC using GodMode.

Like the Skylight Intensity (equals Ambient light slider in TSC), and options for the Autoexposure min/max limits. And a mandatory Gamma slider, which many games offer at start by using a screen with different gray bars, where you can adjust your gamma so the darkest bar is hardly visible. (e.g. "Stray"). A Bloom slider would also be nice, though I have modded the 2.34x Bloom in old routes like Bakerloo, Peninsula Corridor, HSC, ECW, Oakville back to 1 on my installation. (No, r.BloomQuality is not the answer!)

Not everyone has their monitor calibrated correctly (which needs a special hardware tool my brother has, being a semi-professional photographer, to then create a correct colour profile.)

I have not seen that kind of option in A game in a long time, that would and or could assist in what the game looks & feels like and actually, I can't remember when I saw that in a game, I do have stray just got around to it.
This is true, I know for sure my monitor is not calibrated properly, there is a consumer tool or used to available for anyone to use, and it too was a bit costly, many have as well as me, come to rely on the manufacturer of the monitor to have it calibrated.

It's mostly found in games that rely on darkness for special effects. As in the utterly terrifying "Visage" which I can't play because it's just too scary and deeply disturbing. :D

TAA was much sharper on TSW2020 using default 100% scaling. To get the same visual quality you must now set ScreenPercentage to at least 150%.
