I have just downloaded and installed the Cambridge Branches and ECML route but I cant get any of the scenarios to load except the Cambs Blank scenario with the black five. Any other scenario throws up error messages that its unable to load various rolling stock items such as the Ivatt Class 2 2-6-2T_weathered and 20T Brake van grey etc. I have downloaded and installed all of the relevant files from the Cambridge Lines web site so am at a loss as to what can be wrong. If anyone can shed any light on what may be causing my problem then any help would be gratefully appreciated.

If it throws up a message saying it cannot load items of rolling tock it is usually because you don't own them.

Thats what I was thinking too but I downloaded all of the legacy stuff of the site and it seemed to install with the utility in game installer. However as I was still getting these messages after redownloading the files I unpacked the uk steam loco rwp file with winrar and it threw up an error that the file was corrupt. So I really need someone who has got the route working to go over file sizes and give me a few pointers.

Not every scenario on the route uses free locos and stock - you will have to Buy some items.

I am well aware that not every scenario on the route uses free locos and stock and I already have quite an extensive collection of stock both free and paid for. I am merely trying to ascertain whether I have all the necessary files downloaded and installed correctly to run the route properly. I am also seeing some issues with some platforms seeming to be missing towards the southern part of the route and some structures at KX seem to be incomplete. Hence my request for someone who has already successfully installed the route to help withe file sizes for comparison etc. If you can't help with that then perhaps you can leave it to someone who owns the route and can actually help to reply. I don't really need a lecture on having to purchase addons when needed.

Scenery asset issues can be caused by either missing assets from various sources or if you don't have your scenery density set to max in the options menu.
There were several routes where I thought I had missing assets for scenery and yet it turned out to be that my scenery density wasn't set to full.

I think I have this route from ATS so when I am next on TSC, I will double check assets folders etc.

Also, TStools can help you to check if you do indeed have missing assets for routes.

Thanks Nick That is more like the kind of help I was after! I am using Locoswap to help track down some missing stock and making steady progress . I will check my scenery density too.

I think if you hit F2 and save so long as the player train isn’t one of those affected, you bypass the error messages and drop in to the scenario. Apologies if you already knew this!

Use LocoSwap to check scenarios for potentially missing stock.

Thanks Tom, As already mentioned I am using locoswap to track down any missing stock. there is a lot to get through but I am making steady progress. Only issue that is bothering me now somewhat is the remaining scenery items Im sure Kings Cross had a roof even in the fifties! LOL

Have you run the route thru TS Tools - that will help you identify the missing assets

And cunningn#3154 might be able to help.

    Hi Stewart,

Another recent user seemed to hit the same problem with structures in the South. I suggest you make your rw/assets folder read-writeable and then re-run the installation of the asset and route packs (no need to download again).

The rolling stock requirements are quite lengthy in order to aim close to realism - and inevitably suffer from age-related deterioration (ie some assets are no longer available - rather than my rapidly approaching senility). I suggest that you download everything in my UKTS-FP pack and then do the Legacy locos pack (as they may upgrade some UKTS stuff). Then do any of the Locomotives for which you have the donor stock.

Sorry that it is such an extensive process - but it is quite a big route and has a load of rolling stock on it.

You wouldn't think it but over the years I have spent a lot of time trying to simplify the requirements! Unfortunately I have then complicated things again by doing all the loco updates/enhancements etc.

Let me know how you get on.

    Kind regards
    Neil

Hi Neil, and thanks for taking the time to try and help out. I have tried to make the RW Assets Folder read-writable but it keeps reverting to read only and I cant figure out how to change that.
I can tell from what I have seen of the route so far that a tremendous amount of work has gone into it, The parts that have loaded properly look superb. I was born in 1950 so this era of route is right up my street! It brings back many memories of my childhood!
    Hi Neil,

One more thing that seems to be happening is that the Railfan scenario "watching the Queen of Scots" seems to have disappeared from the drive menu and can only be accessed via the build menu. The only time it actually appeared via the drive menu was the first time I accessed the route. Any ideas?

Well done for what you have achieved so far.
    Cheers,

Are you using RWTools or a cmd window or just applying via the operating system?

I suspect that a recent Windows change has affected permissions. How are you installing the rwp files - via the TS utility? If so you might try running that 'as administrator' to ensure that it has elevated privileges - I don't think it is good at noticing when a copy fails.

How do I tell if its running as administrator and if its not, how do I enable that in windows10?
    Edit
OOPS! Never mind I just found the option. Unfortunately it didn't help as I have just re-installed the assets and route rwp files while running the utilities app as an administrator. Is there another way of perhaps manually installing the contents of the rwp files?
    2nd Edit
I have unpacked the rwp route file using Winrar and run a comparison with the route file in game and there are no differences in file sizes apart from the route information file which is actually smaller on the unpacked RWP when compared to the rwp installed in the game.I am at a loss as to what could be wrong or how to even begin to fix it Its a great shame because even though kings cross looks a mess when driving out of it to the north, once you get past Holloway the only problems then are the missing platforms such as Finsbury Park etc.

If you run the route thru TS Tools what does it say is missing - you can save the output as a csv file.

.rwp files can be treated as (because they technically are) .zip files.

If you haven't already I highly recommend you download and install 7zip, it is a far superior and completely free alternative to both winrar and winzip.

With 7zip (or any other zip archive tool) you can open the .rwp file and then extract the contents to their relevant folders, the only thing Utilities.exe does differently to 7zip is it a) extracts the files to their correct locations automatically (assuming the author put everything in its correct structure in the package to start with) and b) creates a file in RailWorks/PackageInfo letting Utilities.exe know where and what was installed and allows for the option to uninstall it, (it cannot undo any .bat files or GeoMod changes though, it can only remove the files it put in place as far as I'm aware, so uninstalling this way could potentially cause more issues than it solves)

Utilities.exe is slow and clunky and great for the TS novice to install to an unfamiliar file structure but I never use it, I always use 7zip and manually install.

I pressed the check selected route button and it ran but I couldn't find how to save the output as a csv file when I tried pressing the csv button but it just opened with a blank page. I'm not used to using TS tools on routes to check them so not sure if I did it wrong or not!

After TS Tools has done its check you get a list of what is missing.
In the bottom right corner of the page is a Save Button - You can save the output to any location as a csv file

OK I have created a csv file But Not sure how that helps as it only confirms That that list of assets are missing. Now I assume I need to find a way of getting these assets into the route?

The missing assets have a lot of information
This is off a report I ran for a route - the important bit is what I highlighted
    G:\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Assets\JustTrains\Bristol_Exeter_1\Scenery\Buildings\a25_building_linesidehut_01.bin
Everything before the Assets folder ca be ignored -
after that you get the Main Folder then the Sub folder of the missing Items JustTrains\Bristol_Exeter_1\ in my case
It might be you are missing an important Add-on

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I think I am going to have to give up on this one though as the list is quite extensive and I haven't a clue where to start to get these files. Which is a shame really as I had mostly solved any missing stock issues on the route. Unfortunately the csv file is to large to upload here.

Chances are that the list will include many duplications, use one of the excel tools to remove duplicates and you'll find the list is much shorter.

OK I have removed all the duplicate files From the .csv file but it wouldn't let me upload it in that format so I had to change the file extension to .txt If anyone wants to take a look they can view it as a text file or simply change the extension back to .csv any advice at this stage is most welcome.

Nearly all of those "missing" assets are actually just assets in .ap files. If you have the correct DLC the assets in question won't actually be missing.

You do own the ECML South. London to Peterborough?
Some of the obvious things are from that route.
And you did check your Scenery Density?

My scenery density slider is fully to the right and I do own London to Peterborough but as you can see from my route list, it is entitled ECML London to Peterborough and not ECML South London \to Peterborough .

So could it be that the missing word "South" is relevant? I did notice that when I ran Cambridge Lines through TSTools, it referenced ECMLS quite a few times rather than ECML Peterborough London or something similar.

    Hi Stweart,

Sorry to hear that it is still not working. Several things jump out -
    • it reports missing stuff from both CreativeRail\EastCoast and RSC\ECMLS. Silly question but can you confirm that you have those folders (and their subfolders) in your Assets folder?
    • you can ignore thecunningn\Cambs\Environment\Terrain\Decals - they aren't necessary and are only there to aid development (whenever I get round to finishing those sections...)
    • the \DTG\ExeterKingswear stuff is all nice-to-have (NTH) from the Riviera 1950 route
    • the GreatNortherner\GNRy stuff is one of the requirements though all eye-candy and not essential
    • the RSDL\Foliage01 stuff is from the old 'Island Line' route - bits wil look a little bare without it but not critical I think (never tried).

The biggest issue and cause of your KX woes is the absence of the RSC\ECMLS stuff - so if you can spend a little longer on investigation then I would start there. It comes in an .ap file so if you cannot see any content files in any subfoledr then try expanding it using RWTools (menu Files\Open .ap manager then choose the RSC\ECMLS ap file and then Extract Files\extract ALL to same folder as .ap ) and re-running the check route function. You should see file content in most sub folders - you should also see a cunningn sub folder.

    Good luck

    Neil

The name of the route is irrelevant. What matters is if you have it installed. In your Train Simulator installation (right-click it on Steam and select "browse local files"), enter the Assets folder, enter the RSC folder, and then check if there's a folder named "ECMLS" that contains a file named "ECMLSAssets.ap". If there is then you can ignore any warnings TS-Tools gives you about missing assets from ECMLS - they are caused by it not being able to read .ap files.

Hi Neil and Thanks for jumping in again. I can confirm that I do Have the creativerail and rsc folders present. Can you confirm what size the rsc/ecmls. ap folder should be? Mine comes in at 1,134,393kb. I will attempt to follow your instuctions with TSTools this evening and report back how I get on.

1,134,393kb is the correct size - so as Eldomtom says it shouldn't be a problem. No need to unpack it. What you can check is that the subfolder 'RSC\ECMLS\Scenery\cunningn' exists. This contains a load of fairly essential stuff for the Southern end incl KX.

My RSC\ECMLS folder structure looks like this : RSC\ECMLS\RailNetwork\signals\prosignals\cunningn. There is no scenery folder in the RSC\ECMLS folder.

If you mean the Cambridge lines and ecml route's assets folder then yes I have But the rwp file doesn't contain a scenery folder in the RSC\ECMLS assets folder or in the route folder

There are 5 asset .rwp files:
    CambridgeLines rel5.60 assets 3rd-party-1
    CambridgeLines rel5.60 assets 3rd-party-2
    CambridgeLines rel5.60 assets 3rd-party-3
    CambridgeLines rel5.60 assets 3rd-party-4
    CambridgeLines rel5.60-Cambs-assets
I have installed all five and none of them contain the RSC\ECMLS\Scenery folder.

You already have the RSC\ECMLS\Scenery folder as it came with the Route -
East Coast Main Line London-Peterborough Route Add-On
Go in to the RSC\ECMLS folder and you will see a file ECMLSAssets.ap
This is what the folder structure looks like after Extracting from that file

Yes I have the ECMLAssets.ap File But I don't have the Scenery file. Here is what is in my RSC\ECML folder. I think you'll agree it doesn't look quite right!

Yes, that's how it should look if you haven't extracted the .ap file (which you don't need to do). If you did install the assets file, it should have created all the necessary folder. Did you install it via Utilities.exe? If so, can you show us what packages you have installed in it?
