Maik Goltz Can you please tell me if the headlights on ICE1 and especially ICE3 have received s similar treatment to the Traxx locomotives on Riesa Dresden to make them actually usable during light ? The ICE3 had absolutely horrible headlight's for an ultra modern train. I know you have worked on the ICE1 and did fantastic work so If you have time please reply Thanks!
From the preview stream, the ice1 was lighting up more of the tunnel and track with bright headlights compared to what we had before.
If headlights are not fixed for once and for all tsw2 was the last thing I bought from DTG. That's just ridiculous. My fav was when rivet was trying to make us believe flirt has weak headlights in real life. Anyone had a cabride in Europe (-UK) knows that's just a ridiculous lie... Its not enough they make trash, they behave with us like we were trash as well... At least they should acknowledge that they are incompetent in making something working... But no, they act like poor Steve Jobs when he said 'You hold it wrong'. Rant finished.
It didn't seem to have very strong lights it was more close to 101 where it would lit up just a tiny bit of rail In front. Or maybe I didn't see right. Still better than the rest of german stock (except for DR ) and might even be close to real life ICE1. However the ICE3 had headlights that would lit 2M in front, while in real life it's more like 200m+. That need to be changed ! I feel your pain. That was the story of everything in TSW except for USA locos until Riesa to Dresden came out. Once it came out all the locos included had actual working headlights that made night runs possible for the first time in TSW. Br145, BR185, Talent2...all of them redone by Maik with actual proper headlights. So it's not impossible, I really hope that TSW3 will carry this habit and all upcoming locos have real life usable headlights!
Well the ICE 3 403 has been rebuilt for SKW so its headlights will prolly shine better then the one in HMA as all the german locos that has been rebuilt after or arrived with DRA has recived bright headlights
I really hope so! I have pre-ordered TSW3 for a while now and would really want to be able to enjoy some night runs on SKW. I don't have any expectations to do that on SEHS tough . It stil puzzles me how in the 21 century UK believes that train drivers should by blind at night .
What’s a nonsense with headlights is that AI trains approaching will light up a huge swathe of track and area in front of them, while the player train has the equivalent of a single candle, hardly any projected light at all.
Maik Goltz has managed to create what is, in my opinion, the best train headlight illumination so far in TSW with the BR 612. I don't know how the hell he did it but it is incredible, there is no other train that is so enjoyable to drive at night. I wish he had used this technique with the ICE 1, although it might light less than the 612 because IRL it's like that, I don't know. He certainly has the knowledge and the technique. And sometimes it looks like this man works magic.
Yes, it uses the same (not so magical) tech of IES light profiles (no, i don't have original IES files for train headlights, but i found something that works well).
If its close to the headlights of the Riesa Dresden stock (Talent 2, Traxx 145/185 and driving dostos) i will be very happy with the outcome! The sounds of the ICE1 where already fantastic , the headlights are the only thing i didn't see in action.
Except they are not turned on or maybe on the lowest settings in the video. No way ICE1 has UK style lights. I remember seeing some cab videos and they do lit up the front, not like a ICE3 but still workable.
More like he couldn't handle people having different opinions. It is a shame, because it was always nice seeing his replies and getting some insight, he seemed knowlegable about many stuff. But the voice of the customer is something you have to learn to handle, even if you find it unreasonable sometimes. Saying "everyone is stupid here" and then ragequitting is a bit childish, if you ask me. Sure, he has every right to do so and to some extent it is understandable, because the customers can sometimes be annoying and unreasonable. But I think a more healthier approach would be to try to learn handling it. Being able to handle people with different opinions and learning to argue properly is a good skill to have in life. So I do hope at one point he calms down and returns. You have to accept that arguments are a part of life and see the fun in them, even if you can't always change the opinion of the other person or "win".
If you are promising something like the 420 for years, and then accuse players of being responsible for the delay due to their criticism (including me, who by the way has bought almost all of his products for years, ever praising them on the forums, so I don't know why that is not deemed supporting devs and seen as holding up development), you must expect responses that are not what you'd like to read. "Shut up and buy" - that's how it came across. The TSW forums can be quite hot terrain, and maybe it's better for devs developing and community managers communicating, I think.
I think the slow pace is understandable - making complex trains such as these take a lot of time for one man. And he was even included in many other projects as well. And as far as I know he never tried to promise a deadline neither for the 420 nor the Ludmilla - he just said he is working on them and they will take a while. It is not how full time job, as far as I am aware. The problem with this forum is that the devs have clearly been caught lying several times, so when they say something, you never know if you can believe them. This results in that you may be telling the truth at the moment, but there will be people who don't believe you. Of course, some people really go overboard sometimes (including even me maybe). But ragequitting and cutting communication does not help this in my opinion.
That is quite unfortunate. He was quite a nice guy with very good understanding in certain features of trains. Also he helped produce some of the best TSW add-ons. From the perfect BR 101, to remastering and implementing decent cab sounds to otherwise horrendous BR145 and 185 from DRA. I think that he aso re-did the headlights of these two and the dostos, making this add-ons among the few that actually have proper headlights and are usable at night. Maybe one day he will return i hope
Very sad to hear that Mike left the forums. His informative comments were very insightful. But unfortunately he was often unable to ignore the few annoying/disrespectful community members and took things a bit too personal.
Pretty sure it was said a while ago that the 420 shouldn’t have entered the roadmap back in TSW2, then DTG decided to do 2 iteration’s, which also seemed to not have been discussed well enough in advance with 3rd parties. personally I think patience is always lacking a bit when it comes to dlc announcements and dates, for me it comes when it comes, delays in TSW cases have always seemed to have produced better content than the mass production phases.
Headlights have to be reworked entirely imo. During nights scenarios they are simply unplayable as we don't see anything :/ And I'm pretty sure that we are talking about 1-2 coding lines in pak files...
maybe that's changable by modding... I could try it for my ICE 3 enhancement pack if I know how to (sorry console players lmao)
They also have to find the right light maps and manually go through each one. That's how maik did it.
