How do people feel over newer traction such as Class 196/197/331 or older such as class 319/158/150 Midland mainlines HST and 158 appeared to capture the community more than the modern 385 but then the 801 changed that what do people prefer to drive?
New traction is easier to use and that's what I've grown up with although I'm based in the US. I like all trains but modern trains are just more prevalent
Outa the options I'd personally prefer a class 331 to a Class 319. Just cause I deteste 319's really. Though I'd take a sprinter any day if done right.
At the moment we have a big lack of Modern DMUs in tsw4, so would love some modern DMUs such as the 185 . Also a huge lack in Classic EMUs (the only older EMUs we have are peps iirc) so would be nice to have some older electric routes. I personally love them (I miss them already)
Modern. The BR Class 101 as an example is great to look at, but a mare to drive - especially for me using a controller on PS5.
I prefer the good old BR diesels to drive in TSW as they are very immersive and even though I don't dislike the more modern traction it doesn't offer the experience I am looking for as much.
I don’t mind either. But I prefer older EMU’s like 321s & 319s more than ultra modern trains like 800s, 700s etc. I didn’t grow up in the BR era of trains but more mechanical trains I find more appealing. I think we need more of them in TSW. But then again, a modern route that I can relate to with trains like 331s, 195s etc is something a want just as much.
where I am we tend to get the older rollingstock (though I have been on the new stuff as well) I do prefer the older stuff as I believe it has more character though I also don't mind newer stuff. having a mix of both is important to keep everyone happy. though also getting something from outside the big 2 is important. personally would love to see T1, T9, T7 And Blue Mountains Line from Australia with at least a V set and T Set. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/t1-t9-t7-and-blue-mountions-line-poll.41504/
Driving the Class 101, or any first generation dmu, is a matter of practice until you find the rhythm. Not a lot of difference to driving a manual transmission car.
Honestly for USA (where I live) I prefer modern locos (would even like to see new upcoming locos one day, like the FLXDrive). Whereas for other countries, I like seeing older/historic locos.
some older stuff is nice, but I'm mostly for modern and electric, if diesel, it has to be special in some ways, like BR 245 (Traxx, vmax 160 km/h), Siemens Chargers in the US, Herkules for OBB ("only" 140 km/h, but I saw it haul both passenger and pretty heavy freight)... so stuff like Taurus, Vectron, ICEs, but also Italian and Spanish highspeed beauties... I dont care much for China's stock, cos it is mostly stolen tech and done on mass scale, and now they try to act cute I know the trend is for highspeed to be mostly EMUs, but I also dig OBB approach a lot (even though in some areas they still use EMUs or loco hauled) aka RailJet - highspeed push/pull (ICE L incoming)... thats why I also like to play BR101 in TSW and would like it used more... it is not exactly 300 or more km/h, but anything above 140 or 160 km/h is very exciting and lately after travelling a lot with faster regional services around Bratislava and Vienna I found a new level of appreciation for speeds between 80 and 120 km/h, like chill, cruise, relaxed but still kinda fast tempo anyway, ehm, Vienna U-Bahn one or two complete lines pls (couldnt help myself but drop another post of me wanting more Austrian content )
I find older stock tends to have more personality and adds to driving immersion. While I enjoy running Electrostar and later series stock, I have more fun running units from prior generations. The same goes with my native US stock, I'd rather run an M3 than an M7, an AEM-7 over an ACS, etc.
well, thats an interesting point of debate - old school vs new school kinda, and this runs in super/hypercar category as well... some prefer the older, more raw, more control in driver's hands approach, when only racers or experienced drivers could tame so much horsepower... and some prefer newer stuff like McLaren or LaFerrari, that takes care of some of the stuff so the driver can enjoy high speeds without fear of killing themselves and so it is also in locos - some prefer older traction also cos it had more stuff to do, it had its charm, some like me, prefer sleek, speed, acceleration, tech, safety and such like, what I know from my town, country... except my time at university in Nitra, when I hadnt done much riding on trains, before and after that time I spent some time travelling between Galanta and Bratislava... Bratislava is of course the capital, and Galanta, while smaller, has always been a major regional railway junction/hub... and yeah I remember older locos, older wagons, aaaaand man, I am so glad the older coaches are gone and older locos get either nicely repainted and repaired or moved into freight I mean, this has for some time been the rolling stock I see when I travel to see my parents in Galanta: Škoda 671/971 MU, vmax 160 km/h, nowadays after track upgrade it usually goes up to 140 on that route Škoda 109E2 "Emil Zatopek" (technically capable of 160 - 200 km/h) + coaches + Škoda 971 cab car and this is sth that used to still go on the same route even as "recently" as 10yrs back: ZSSK 240 "Laminatka" + some old regio coaches (couldnt find older ones, but even these suuuucked) I kinda feel like the newer traction yeah, it simplified some stuff, but also added a lot of tech and safety, and by lightening the load from the driver, the driver now has more focus on whats happening on the track itself plus from esthetic point of view, I like the sleek, almost sports-car-like lines of some of the modern traction and coaches like these: Taurus 1116 with modernized Wiesel dostos in CityJet livery, I mean, doesnt this look super cool Desiro ML aka OBB 4744/4746/4748 (cant tell from the photo which subtype it is) or Stadler EuroDual 9000, that beast looks damn cool with its 6axles of doom sorry for long post anyway, one more reason why I enjoy modern traction is that I can better relate to it - driving some of those trains as passenger, wanting to experience those same trains from driver's perspective... thats one of the reasons why I just love Vorarlberg route - seeing 4024s constantly during my travels around Vienna hopefully I see 4744s in game as well very soon cheers man
To counter this we now have more computers and technological systems in the cabs, whereas when I first started there were none of these screens all around you. Honestly though moving controls and that becomes innate so there has always been a lot of focus on what' out the big front window as well it is relatively important to know what is going on there!
