TSW4 was not an 'epic fail'. If it were, DTG would have lost a lot of money and customers, not to mention every single TSW player wouldn't be happy with it.

An interesting tweet today from DTG. Can't decide if it makes further versions more likely (so it gets even more fragmented than it currently is) or less likely (they are removing version numbers) or just a random occurrence...

Edit: just noticed actually that dating back to the launch of TSW4 the hashtag in the forum post was always without the 4, so maybe they just noticed! ha.

Ummmm, an interesting graphic to associate with "shot." And this game is PEGI-3.....

I don't think that means anything.

It's probably because they know not everyone has TSW4 (of which there could be many reasons).

I personally don't refer to TSW with its version number.

oh, I know :D they will be adding coffee physics to TSW... like, you click on the cup holder, coffee appears, and one scenario will require you to make stops and such on time while accelerating/braking in such a way as to not spill the coffee :D

They can't implement a coffee-drinking mechanic until they have working WC's

Now that I would like to see, how far can you drive without spilling it, then again it would be static coffee like in FO.

The Class 20 in TSW 2020 had a working hotplate which they made a big deal about. So that's half way towards a coffee machine!

Is any game ever free? Apart from the 'free' games which rely on micro-transactions.

Something that's just come to mind:

I paid money for this game and it's DLCs I own. There are bugs everywhere, minor and major, some of which ruin the gameplay experience.

Another game I play, didn't pay for it, is run on a voluntary basis, and yet any bugs are fixed once identified (where possible).

The only difference is one allows me to drive trains, the other doesn't (and is based on a game from the 90s).

Basically, I'm paying for a game which is bugged beyond belief, yet another has little bugs (most of which stem from modifying the game state in a way it wasn't meant to be) and is entirely free.

I share your frustration about the bugs within the core game and DLCs I have purchased. The situation is severely exacerbated by the lack of acknowledgement, urgency, and follow-through from DTG. Players aren't upset about the existence of bugs. Players are upset by the lack of acknowledgement, urgency, and follow-through when bugs occur. There feels to be no push from DTG to "make it right" when bugs crop up, even bugs that are quite severe and cause parts of the game to be uncompletable. Instead, bugs are ignored and swept under the rug and then followed up with the next DLC announcement. I believe this cycle to be the primary source of frustration amongst players and the reason why threads like this 71-pager get created.

A recent example is Maintalbahn. It was released on 11/28/23 with a severe bug that prevents uncoupling locomotives. Uncoupling is required to complete some services, so parts of this brand new DLC are not completable. Like so many others, this bug has received no acknowledgement, urgency, or follow-through. Almost two full months later, players who purchased this DLC still can't complete some services, and unsuspecting new purchasers will encounter the same issues. It's quite a bummer because it's a fun little route.

I hope that the beancounters at DTG can figure out that treating customers better can increase revenue too.

They shouldn't need to figure it out. Makes perfect sense that the only way to keep customers happy would be more open, honest communication and the willingness to fix bugs.

Yet, here I am, a frustrated customer who has spent a lot of money on this game, waiting for a fix for a crash that first started 7 months ago with no end in sight.

I'm enjoy a lot TSW4, free roam and the spawn trains function, class 801 and border crossing with Voralberg line and now with Berninaline, this things have totally catched me. The ability to spawn or delete trains, can fix several services that are broken on TSW3. The issues (old or new) are always frustrating, but games are not bug free. So hope if TSW5 and others eventually comes out, and contain things that i find nice, i will buy it, despite of issues

After a few weeks cooldown, I plugged my PC into the TV and played TSW for a change with my Xbox controller. It took all of 4 minutes to find a huge bug: the zoom function does not work with the left control stick (I know this works fine on console). How is it we are on the 4th iteration of TSW (5th for PC) and this has not been addressed? Kind of disappointing and pretty much sums up the state of the game. :(

A bucket of cheese balls! I'm always jealous of the size of the packs that Americans can buy snacks in.
However I will never give up the variety of British crisp flavours :)

the size of the food portions on the shelves matches the size of the people stuffing themselves with these snacks?

I can't argue with you about that, but yes, I have seen what some people can eat! but I can assure you this old coot is actually losing weight because of medication for diabetes, and the cheesy balls I can eat with no problem, don't affect my blood sugar. It's puffed corn and only three pounds :)

By comparison, Baldur's Gate 3 released last August on PC, about the same time as TSW4, but Larian has in that time put out 5 full patches and 17 hotfixes!

There's a reason we need giant freight locos pulling 200-plus-car trains. Each car can only hold a few snack packs.

Not really fair since baulders gate is just 1 game while tsw has over 80 dlc and more being pumped out so you don't get a few months of only focusing on 1 dlc. Unless they really slow down the release cycle.

Then they should stop pumping out half baked DLC, and spend more time with each release rather than have a "fire and forget" policy.

Which, I believe, is what Matt said they were going to do – slow down, fix bugs, improve – while actually they didn't appear to do any of that and released a "new" TSW.

It would be even funnier (and I mean in the ironic not humorous sense) if the prolonged absence of any significant DTG management presence on the forum is because they are already working on TSW5, to release in March less than a year this time after TSW4.

Incidentally not just TSW which seems to have been forsaken at the moment. Over in the TSC corner, new AEM7 electric loco released with not even an announcement anywhere, streams or anything. So the whole Trains operation is keeping a remarkably low profile.

After further experimentation, it seems the controller first-person zoom function works differently on PC than console. On PS/Xbox, the left stick up-down has a handy "quick" zoom in/out which is very useful for spotting upcoming signals. On PC, this does not exist; instead, it is necessary to hold down the right stick and then a full zoom becomes available on left stick up-down, akin to the mouse wheel zoom. For controller use, I actually prefer the "quick zoom" behaviour implemented on console, if I want a full zoom capability I can use the mouse wheel.

To be brutally honest, Matt has said a lot of stuff over the lifetime of the TSW franchise, and here we are on page 72. Talk is cheap I'm sorry to say.

And, before people start berating me for daring to say anything about Matt, this is not a personal attack, it's my opinion of what I've seen, heard and read him say they want to do, intend to do etc. And there's no need saying it's not down to him, he's only one of the Devs. He is the Executive Producer. That's the main man on the development side of TSW.

If he were a Premier League manager, then he'd probably need to be thinking about making sure his CV was up to date. Unless of course his superiors are more than happy with how things are going. But if that's the case, to stick with the football analogy, this thread is the equivalent of the fan's protests that have been seen recently at Reading and other higher profile clubs in the past.

It does exist on PC, but does not work if God Mode is in use, or your controller config is wrong.
I use a PS5 Dualsense controller on the PC, and zoom with the left stick works fine.
When using god mode, an increased zoom level can be achieved with the mouse.
Also worth noting, if you are on Steam, check your controller config. I had something similar to this, fixed by using a steam Dualsense config.
