Since DTG won't even post about it. Reppos AEM 7 is now out. Article: https://live.dovetailgames.com/live/train-simulator/articles/article/all-new-amtrak-aem-7-out-now Store link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2662390/Train_Simulator_Amtrak_AEM7/
Schnauz gave the 'toaster' a look over: I think the model looks OK, but any modern passenger loco has Type-F Tightlock couplers. I'd think Reppo/TSC should have them in stock now or otherwise made a new model at this premium price: I suppose Reppo or who ever did record the sounds didn't have proper access to the locomotive to get those traction motor sounds and assist in the proper mixing. So there is room for improvement in the sound, textures and detailing by the eager modding community.
Definitely ready to try these out. I will say right off the bat the texturing isn't perfect and there is the coupler issue, but both can be easily fixed. Ultimately the look of colors will differ from user to user due to monitor and graphics settings, what matters more is consistency among different pieces of rolling stock.
while there may be some things off about the texturing on these Aem-7s but compared to the 2011 rsc version these are wayyy more accurate i wish phase V and the Alp-44 was included with this and a metroliner cab car
The senior managers seem to have been on an extended holiday since before Christmas. Loco looks nice but probably one for a sale.
Does if function on the old NEC? The description carefully says the two newer routes, so I assume not. Also a Phase 5 livery would have been nice to use the loco alongside other P5 stock. Given the other operators, a dependent livery pack might be an option, too. We got two, so I'm not going to pick about the price, inflation and all. The Pro tag scares me a bit, though. Although in a sense the entire New York ecosystem is pro, with its signaling.
Wow. The interior is modelled and textured to the highest standard, surpassing a lot of TSW stock. And we got fully modelled Amfleet coaches, on the old ones I wanted to ad more passenger views, just to find out they were only partially modelled. Andras, don't worry about the Pro tag - it's not a Steam engine Had to buy that one instantly. Thanks for that swedish beast, Reppo! I think the paint is spot on.
One of my pet hates - do you need to have Light Flares Enabled to see the lights on the front? Nothing in the manual but Schnauz mentions the frame rate hit.
Yes you need them. But Flares are only textures, they don't cause a frame rate hit. What causes framerate hits are shadow casting light sources, but not flares.
a shake up to get DTG into the required focus demanded by Focus when they bought the studio, for a drastic change in a companies' commitment, course and customer relationships attitude starts at the top ... About the AEM-7 'Toaster', how is the stainless steel effect captured on the model? For a lot of the prototype photos seem to depict the locomotives in a pretty battered and dulled state
Well I tried it out, and it is certainly an improvement over the old AEM-7, but I think there's room for improvement. My thoughts here: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/thoughts-on-improving-the-reppo-aem-7.78013/
