We received the DB BR class 185.2 locomotive with the Ruhr-Sieg Nord route DLC. Then we got an upgraded BR185.2 locomotive with the Main-Spessart Bahn route DLC. Although both versions of the BR185 can run on either route, only the MSB BR185.2 can do banking services on MSB, so we are completely screwed if we want to use a DB 185 on services instead of the Railion version. We are about to get the new Tees Valley Line route for Train Sim World, and after watching the dev stream earlier this evening, it is safe to say that after driving the improved Class 08, it is going to be difficult to go back and drive the hugely inferior class 09 in WSR. So, i propose that when DTG take an existing locomotive (of the same class), and upgrade it for a new route DLC, that the locomotive in the old route should be upgraded to the same level as the newer version. Especially if the newer version of that locomotive is released less than 12 months after the original one, which is the case for the BR185. TL-DR Please give owners of NSB the upgraded BR185 in DB livery. Also give owners of WSR a class 09 upgrade that is of the same standard as the class 08 in TVL.
The locomotive's are each made with the attention to detail that that railroad ordered. So with the class 09 for instance is built by its original railroads standards and the same with the class 08. If DB ordered the 185.2 with banking requirements then DTG would most likely have added it. But if they didn't and you used a Railion ordered 185.2 in a DB livery then it would be unrealistic for a DB service and would technically running a train engine DB never had. This would be the same if a ET44AC was made for CSX and DTG released a Norfolk Southern route with a ET44AC. Both railroads ordered the same locomotive just with there own personal preference.
Yeah, it's not my intention to be disrespectful to you, but it seems you really don't know what you are talking about here. Both BR185's have a banking computer built into the dashboard. Both meant to be used... one works, one doesn't. The BR class 08 and class 09 are exactly the same locomotive, built for BR by BR. Neither locomotive was "ordered for a specific railroad" DB Cargo = Railion = DB (All the same company).
If the class 08 is the same as the 09 what was the point of making the 09. And I know best about American loco's not German so I was wrong about the 185.2.
I believe the dashboard fitted banking computer in the 185.2 is fictional. It's a work around that doesn't represent how things are done in real life, because in real life both the banking locomotive and the train set that is being pushed remain separate and not controlled by the banking loco. This is so the pushed train set doesn't have to stop in order for the banking loco to separate at the top of the grade. This kind of manoeuvre is too complicated to properly simulate/instruct at the moment which is why the remote control was added. It's understandable that the fictional alteration doesn't propagate to other versions of the loco.
The 08 and 09 are the same body, engine and subframe, but the 08 is geared for moving heavy consists up to 15mph whereas the 09 is geared for lighter consists up to 25mph (indeed 09s ran short passenger runs in London when the usual locos weren't available) So the difference is that they were geared differently and used for different things on the network The question of whether the 09 will be retro-upgraded has been addressed by Matt in the 10 year anniversary devstream. It won't Because although they look alike the 08 and 09 are different in game. Different people made them from different models with different scripts etc so as always "It's not that easy" applies.
