Do you have to uninstall the old version to get/buy this new version?

I'm pretty sure it will come as a separate route. Like Portsmouth Direct Line / Waterloo back in the day to preserve scenario compatibility.

The route itself is definitely an improvement over the original one, but not sure of its worth the price for the stock that comes with it.

This looks awesome! But why has DTG not posted anything about this in their live article discussion page? They didn't either for the new AEM-7, I assumed it was just because they were on holiday, but they are surely off holiday now and haven't said a thing. I am a bit confused, are they just forgetting?

I'm often alright with lower quality stock such as DTMs, I have learned to live with it and when I don't go looking for all the inaccuracies and issues I find myself enjoying it. However I do understand why you would be upset though, as if I was passionate like you are about stock from your country I would be upset too at the low quality.
However of course, I still want things to be better on the US Side. Just because I have learnt to live with it doesn't mean it's satisfactory and I always end up getting stuff such as DTMs and High Iron Simulations DLCs on sales; never at full price because usually it's not worth it.

Also, the U30b is exactly the same as the DTG one with no visual change or extra paint schemes.
    FRCA_14.jpg

And also surprised the existing ALCO S2 wasn't modified into an ALCO S1 to represent the Quincy Railroad #4 or the GE 44 was added to represent QRR #3 (Even if unbranded)

I'll happily pay for the route and run the stock I want on it. Stocked up on DieselWorkshop stuff recently.

I'm sure it'll be fantastic, and the big names Rick Grout, Michael Stephan and Wayne Campbell are in the team again. Masters at work.

Got this wish-listed, I always enjoyed the original one but even with Railworks Enhanced 2 installed it still looked a bit dated. Now it's going to look amazing.

I have had a under the counter extension from Clio trestle to Portola. Its older and in the style of the original FRC. I will defiantly get this redone route.

Will third-party reskins and repaints made for the original feather river route be compatible with this version?

If the route includes the original's asset pack then it is likely, but if they're copies into a new directory they'll need some work.

I would think that any 3rd party reskin or otherwise as well as assets from the previous version of FRC could be used. These could be manually placed in the editor or swapped with TS_Tools or LocoSwap. The new version is a stand alone route. It has already been noted that transferring scenarios from the older version could be an issue and that they may need to be reworked.

To elaborate on what I said before, while the route itself will be separate, I suspect that it's likely that the original Feather River Canyon will be included in the price either as the full DLC (as with Chatham Main and Medway Valley Lines) or as just the asset pack. If either of those is the case, the reskins will work with the trains included as they are literally the exact same ones.

This has new rolling stock that looks similar, if not the same as, Machine Rail's open auto carriers as well as completely new versions of WP power. Snow plow childs are available at LukrailAmerica for F7s/F3s for the original Feather River Canyon

If my prediction is correct, any new rolling stock will come with the extension's package, like the Yeoman Class 59 being included specifically with Chatham Main and Medway Valley Lines.

This is a stand alone route, it goes from Oroville to Portola and includes Quincy Junction. It, however used the older version of FRC and rebuilt and upgraded it and extended it past the Clio Trestle to Portola. Of note the switch targets are reversed. There is a fix for Donner Pass Targets at Railworks America that wll work for this.

Looking good, though first thing is to fix DTM white LED headlights, RGB is full 1/1/1 as usual. (I'm using yellowish ratios of 0.8, 0.8, 0.4). LensFlares also easily removable here.

Also made adjustments to the cabcam, a bit too low on the F7 by default.

Route vegetation looks gorgeous. And a good amount of new freight cars, I'd say it's fully worth the price!

New cam position, glass cleaned (a little tint left) and headlights tuned. Seasons fixed too.
    2024-02-16 06_10_17-Train Simulator (x64).png

The stock needs a lot of work. Audio occlusion in the cab of the F7 (haven't tested the rest) is not working because DTM used a completely wrong blueprint (for tunnels or stations, occluding light and rain). I do not understand his lack of understanding TS basics)... and the error is so old, and gets carried along new DLC due to copy-paste of bad assets.... and might even crash future TSC versions. (It already crashed for me doing a few scenario restarts).

F7 Cab "Audio" occlusion - useless!
    2024-02-16 06_20_22-.png

This, DTM, is a cab occlusion blueprint: ;)
    2024-02-16 06_39_18-.png

Also, the independant brakes are not holding the train, and loco hand brake symbols are missing in the HUD (means they're missing in the simulation.bin, you need them twice in Engine and TrainBrakeAssembly - don't forget to choose a new ID)
    2024-02-16 07_00_34-.png
    2024-02-16 07_03_13-Train Simulator (x64).png

For the usual suspects that think I'm complaining - no. I see the stock as a bonus, only showing what needs to be done.

Looks like all my route building wishes have been fulfilled. At least first glance, between shots by Mortu5 and yours. Busy vegetation.
In terms of frames, how is it? Say, compared to the newer PDL which is also busy and runs well.

Enjoying it too, after making initial tweaks and removing those default pixelated cumulus clouds and "flat" looking sky - still prefer the Kuju Wispy cloud layer. Applying my own San Francisco daylight time based season files. :)

Great, yet another route I'm not interested in that I'm now interested in.
    Thanks a bunch SpikeeTorf :|

(p.s. Will all your fixes and tweaks be going to the usual place?)

This really is good and well worth the purchase price especially if you have the original. The attention to detail is amazing and it comes with a big variety of retro rolling stock. I would recommend it highly to anyone interested in US freight.
With RW Enhancer 2 installed it looks as good as some of the TSW4 routes, only you get 118 miles!

    Schnauz' review:

I gather the same wrong switch targets and pure-white headlights are included?
But the California Zephyr is not (which would raise the value of the premium price product)?

Same old EMD567 sounds on the F7/GP9.

I'm guessing CentralJerseyRailfan will be updating his soundpack to make them compatible with this?

I just don't feel like its worth its current price, especially with the slap in the face of a "previous owners discount"

At most the discount should of brought the route down to at least $24.99.

It's rare that I even consider running a North American route, let alone a HIS one. The route's okay but call me when we get something Searchlight or UK third party quality for the rolling stock.

Can you elaborate? What do you mean by slap in the face? and are you saying the discount is too much or not enough?

I'm assuming you mean the route cost is too high (tbh I didn't think it was that bad given the current market) £29.99 (whatever that is in Biden beans or Trump tokens) seems about right for routes now. and £3.50 off is better than a kick up the arris surely?

Sorry I can't agree, everything costs more. Your bacon and eggs for breakfast, Steak and potatoes for dinner. I would think that you would need to purchase it to make that a valid conclusion instead of an assumption. This is a lot more than a simple fluff up.

SP’s review feels both too harsh and not harsh enough at the same time. Yes, the quality is not that great, but the scenery on the extension is really good and looks like the real thing, and SP didn’t point that out, although there are a few spots that aren’t great, notably Williams Loop, which that ancient freeware route had a better version of. On the other hand, the lazy “enhancements” done to the original honestly look worse for the most part; Oroville-James now looks like a desert, and the original got that part much more accurately. As a massive WP stan, there’s quite a bit wrong with the route for the era represented, such as track arrangements, trestle colors, stock(which is more akin to 50-mid 60s, with the lone exception of the GP40-2) and scenarios, all of which show a clear lack of understanding of WP paint and operations. I think SP needed to point this stuff out instead of ranting, but overall I agree with him-not worth it for current owners, if you don’t own the route then it’s a decent deal.

Then Ill agree to disagree, I don't see $40-$33 worth of work here, especially when stock is part of the routes price.

Ill wait for Mileposts Tennessee Pass Route to spend my pennies on.

Is it a fad these days to keep being negative and complaining about stuff, instead of moving on? Repeatedly?
TSC DLC was never cheap, but there was a casual 50% inflation over the last two years. Some games cost 100% more than a decade ago, nominally.
I kinda start hating these forums, except for one specific aspect.

They say the quality is not that great. It would depend on what kind of monitor they are using. I'm running a 27" monitor at 1920x1080p at 165Hz and TSC looks marvellous. I haven't got the route but I will do so next week but expect it to look great.
