Introduction Hello. My name is Nathan and I'm back with another suggestion. The route/extension I'm suggesting today is a very scenic part of the ECML wich could act as an exension for the current Peterbourgh - Doncaster route if dtg felt they were prepared to do it. This route introduces 2 New Operators, and lots of layers. Let's get into it. The Route From York to Newcastle this route is 80 Miles long. As an extension from Doncaster it would be 112 Miles. This line features 6 Stations and goes over the amazing King Edward Bridge into Newcastle. Average service takes just over or just under an hour. Speed through some proper english countryside at 125mph as you make your way in Train SIm World 4 from York to Newcastle. Rolling Stock Transpennine Express Class 802/2 (Nova 1) These trains are almost identical to the Class 800 trains with the following diffrences: They have 940hp engines with a higher opersting power than the class 800, they have larger fuel tanks, and they are TPE branded. All of the Class 802/2 units are 5 cars per unit. Lumo Class 803 The only diffrence between the class 803 and class 801 is that there is no galley, no first class, no deisil engines at all and it is all lumo branded. These trains concist of 5 cars per unit. LNER Class 800/801 EWS Class 66 Shed Flying Scotsman Stations York Thirsk Northallerton Darlington Durham Newcastle Colour= Operator O=Transpennine Express O=LNER O=Lumo Future DLC Grand Central Class 180 Cross-Country Class 220/221 Voyager (if an extension) Class 91 oxblood livery Conclusion I think this is a very scenic and very interesting section of the ECML. It would be great if it could join up with the current ECML. Please let me know your thoughts below.
only as ai at donny and york 158 runs between darlington/york and Newcastle are very limited and usualy used for a couple of ECSs to heaton
Yea. I had a look and was a bit confused if they ran on this line properly or not. So that's why I left it out.
DTG JD please note - only 1 NE route in the game, the above would be welcomed and give me a real reason to purchase TSW4.
I personally love this route - I went to uni in Durham, so I know it well! Would love to see Durham viaduct in game. As with all route suggestions, we'll take a note and will review it against our LAMP process and internal resources.
TSW Nathan I hate to be the smart one but this would probably be too long for DTG's route builder. But it could happen though.
york-newcastle is around the same length as peterborough - doncaster. and would only be an extra station away too its not that unrealistic. plus the extension connecting doncaster - york would still not be much as it would be just empty countryside without any new stations being added, or anything major other than some freight sidings along the route. would love to see it, especially the other variants of the class 80x for TPE and lumo.
My second local line (still a 30 minute drive from me to its nearest station though..) count me in for this route any day. I’m definitely up for a complete ECML. I think grand central will also join the line on this one aswell. (Edit already covered by OP) before it heads onto my nearest local line (Durham Coast Line)
I would never want to go on a Lumo train irl. They are fast but they are also very busy with no proper on-board catering. But seeing them in the game would be very nice!
Having been on both LNER Standard and Lumo Standard I would say the only difference in catering is whether you have to get up or not Lumo does work like an airplane where it brings it through on a cart but sells pretty much the exact same stuff, maybe the only downside is the wait time on the cart’s service. A downside that can be mostly countered if you get what you want for the time being when it comes through. Lumo seats I do find a lot more comfortable though so that’s worth the long distance
This would top the game for me personally to have YRK to NCL, so much history at all the station in between, to have the Tyne bridge and other historic landmarks, I’m also thankful for the ECML being added to TSW 4, this has got to be the best Release so far for TSW, there are a few issues that can be resolved but it’s still the best dlc so far for me.
As someone who commutes on this route, would love to see it recreated in TSW. Hopefully the 801 -> 802 and 803 changes wouldn't be too difficult, so there would be capacity for an additional locomotive. Personally, I'd love to see a 91 in the oxblood livery included in the route, and then the 220/221 as the future dlc option along with the 180. Really glad to see JD is keen for this route - makes it feel more possible that it'd be made. I was wondering, if DTG isn't allowed a licence for Cross Country, would it be feasible to just release an unbranded voyager and then players can release liveries via creators club please? I've got a cross country HST (and fictional 801) this way.
Would be a big yes from me, could even push out another route to fill in the gap from Doncaster to York with Doncaster to York & Harrogate, ideally with the Leeds to York line too.
This is a fantastic idea. Would love to see the NCL - York bit first - but in terms of making Doncaster to York a suitable standalone purchase this would certainly be a way. Another place for some 225 action too up to Leeds.
Just realised too, TPE 802 could be present on this route also. They go York - Leeds AFAIK when operating Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street.
yea I agree, either Doncaster to Newcastle or a Doncaster to York & some other place could be the best options for a full ECML.
If DTG ever fixes Steam Pyhsics I think a loco pack with locos at National rail mueseum such as Mallard would make a bestselling pack
I'd happily welcome this as either an extension or a new route, had some very happy childhood memories in Newcastle, and the first ever mainline train I caught in Britain was a Virgin HST from Newcastle to York (jesus that makes me feel old!)
I would love any extension/new route of the ECML, with the hope that one day we have the whole line. I really enjoy ECML Peterborough - Doncaster (even if I wish it went to York). Support
I'd rather not have the current ECML extended personally, the route we currently have has all the Azuma has to possibly offer gameplay-wise. Extending the route just means sitting there in notch 4 for even longer. Instead, I'd rather see future route releases of the ECML in other more interesting eras such as LNER Steam featuring the A4, BR diesel featuring the Deltics, or even a Valenta HST. This way you not only get more of the ECML, but you'd also have the history of the route represented across different DLC releases and more driving variety. Which would be better than doing all ECML related route releases in the modern era.
Cracking suggestion and brilliantly written. I feel DTG missed a trick by not doing this leg of ECML. Here’s hoping it would make it onto the game.
Thanks very much. Yes, I agree. I feel this would've been a far better and definitely more scenic section to do.
