Tomorrow, interesting development, discuss. https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2024/02/06/game-pass-update-for-february-2024/
Thats my thoughts too tbh. Bit of a shame but is an alternative to being forced to purchase the game with content I don't want lol.
just read this wonder why the delay did MS want to make sure its in a fit shape to launch on GP before its on?
At a guess, I'd say that Focus, pullup or whatever, thought they could make more money from not having it on GP, and it's turned out they are wrong. Personally, I think the base game being 'free' is probably a way better format for such a DLC heavy title. At least I'll get chance to try it out now.
Well for those that didn't want to buy the game but have gamepass, this is a good thing. Considering that there are around 33.3 million gamepass subscribers, not having tsw on gamepass didn't make sense. Having it on gamepass allows for tsw to have more exposure even if the game is riddled with problems.
More likely it was planned, akin to the Hollywood practice (until COVID) of not releasing a movie to cable or streaming (or, back in the day, on home video) until after its initial theatrical run, or book publishers not issuing a paperback edition until after the hardcover has been out for a while. The idea is to maximise high-dollar sales before going after the more budget-conscious market. Here, I reckon DTG/Focus didn't want "free" Gamepass distribution to cut into full retail sales for the first six months.
I caved about 2 weeks ago and bought it at 60% discount and now it is coming to game pass. If only i'd have known.
It will be removed shortly before the launch of TSW 5. This happened to the previous versions. The same happens to movies. At launch they are cinema exclusives and after they consider the interest has dropped they give it to streaming platforms.
Sales are what I am concerned about too, I did fill in a bit of my Xbox collection to be bigger than the Steam collection in the sales we just had. Why they did it? Easy, to catch people out like this:
Not only do Xbox users get shafted with a capital F on sound quality, it’s now adieu to any meaningful DLC sales. It does potentially bring more payers on board though (not a spelling error) so DTG will be satisfied. Seriously though they need to give consoles some TLC, they have been somewhat neglected (and that’s from a mostly PC player). Apart from the previously mentioned Xbox audio issue, PS5 performance is pretty dire and some optimisation is in order.
Its frustrating because the whole time TSW was on game pass we barely got any sales. But the time TSW4 was off gamepass we got so many more so we know the game being on gamepass has at least something to do with xbox sales? Not just what Microsoft offered? And I've had TSW and routes on the wishlist since TSW2
The sales were most likely due to it not being on gamepass. How else would they let people know many play TSW?
GamePass isn't free you need to subscribe to it every month. Read here. Xbox Game Pass Plans, Explained: How Much Does a Subscription Cost? - IGN
Perhaps is a 6 month contract for Game Pass. That would be removed August 7th just in time for the TSW 5 annoucement.
There are rumours that Microsoft may soon announce it is no longer going to make consoles and that it’s exclusive titles could be heading to PlayStation.
Perfect timing tbh. Might as well get some exposure to Xbox users on gamepass before Microsoft buries Xbox’ carcass for good. This way when people have to switch to a new platform, they’re at least aware of tsw.
You can now enjoy the Z-Fighting on a pay per month viewing… i guess something got them to do a U Turn.
Sounding like some of the worse rumours to date I think I’d move to PC in that scenario, I’ve never been particularly keen on PS and might as well take advantage in that case with PC adavantages over a meh console version.
Funny that but then they announce 2028 as the proposed 10gen console release date. I think its more people didn't understand what the CEO was talking about. They want to go to a total cloud based video game platform that can be run on TV's like a Netflix for video games. But they still intend to build consoles for people to access said content on their TV's. Funny but that is what Sony wants to do as well, as they both see major profits coming they're way from that formula. More people are buying smart TV's everyday which means they don't have to produce as many consoles if people can just access their favourite games, in the latest format on their TV or Tablet, or PC.
This is why it makes sense in the long term to stick with PC. As much as I have a soft spot for consoles, as experience with DTG has shown, players who enjoy transport simulation are vulnerable to the whims/apathy of the developers and the limitations of their box of choice. On top of that, MS/Xbox seem to just keep tripping over their own coattails (illogical business decisions), and Sony are just being Sony (generally customer unfriendly, e.g. locking player accounts permanently to one single country).
They probably think high speed internet will be more widely available by then. It is still 4 years away. And Canada thinks 98% will have high speed access by 2026. Alot of governments are doing the same so 2028 isn't far fetched. https://www.canada.ca/en/innovation...high-speed-internet-connectivity-targets.html
But then again, are people willing to pay for it? I pay 50 bucks a month for my 100/100, and that's the cheapest I can get and my experience with... anything streaming related has been far from good. For reference, I live in the suburbs of Stockholm and I have heard "it will be good in the future" for over a decade now, but it isn't happening, the prices go up but that's really it.
I’ve just upgraded to Gig1 Broadband with Virgin Media in the UK. Minimum guaranteed download speed of 570Mbps (Maximum 1145Mbps) and up to 104Mbps upload speeds.
On the contrary - DTG made a ton of money from all the copies of TSW4 that they sold, and now they get to make another ton of money by putting it on Game Pass. Seems like good business to me, and as others have said, it's similar to movies being exclusive to cinemas initially and then going to DVD and streaming.
Lol I’ll stick to my offline library and physical copies if the whole industry ever tries to go full streaming, thank you very much. Personally I think streaming will be just another option. Don’t think it can replace status quo. Just like how e-readers never replaced books.
Out of interest does anyone know if achievements from DLC will count towards the daily Game Pass points as they were when earlier versions were on GP? Although they are only worth 5 points these days, they count towards the more lucrative monthly achievements.
I highly recommend phoning them up to cancel. I do this every time I get to the end of my contract and they immediately offer me another contract at a reduced price. You do need to take out a new 18 month contract but I get Broadband, phone and all all the TV channels (including sports but excluding movies as I’m not interested in these) for about £80 a month. My broadband is slower than yours but I’m sure they can offer you what you have for a cheaper price. They want to keep your custom and hate cancellations. In the unlikely event that they don’t offer you a reduced price, just say you’ve changed your mind about cancelling.
I'll finally get to try this out on my series s. No dlc match ups, all on ps5, but should give me an idea.
Who though having controller vibrations on by default for every.....single.....control.....was a good idea?!?!
Not only that, but it seems to be the most basic type of vibration, very rough. It makes you wonder if they put a lot of thought in it. Switched them all off entirely. Maybe it's implemented better on the Dual Sense on PS5.
I played it for an hour this morning and thought, yup, this is train sim world, I got literally nothing from it that I couldn't get from TSW3.
No it isn't. I've disabled it right away. They even managed to mess up the XY Zero Points. It's so narrow that the axles move just when you look a little sharper at the lever. It´s a major PITA when you scroll through config menus that change inadvertently the status. Apart from the missing sensitivity of R3 which makes you press several time before the camera changes. A typical DTG mess: Half arsed, unrefined and not acting upon several reports and complaints about it.
They're still things you can only do in TSW4, even if you choose not to or arent interested in, which was my point.
But your point is irrelevant, because there is nothing I can do in TSW4 that I can't do in TSW3, I wouldn't want to do either of those things in either. I'm just glad I never paid for it, it's a disgrace they release it as a whole new version, the only saving grace I can imagine is that they were forced to do so by pullups or whatever Focus is called now.
It's not irrelevant, and I'm not saying you will use any of them, but like with anything, you may want to in future. At the very least that's what they're bargaining on. In all honesty, I haven't used them either and most likely won't, but I like that the option is there should I want to use them in the future. But I do agree they didn't need a whole new game for it, the features of TSW4 could have been combined with TSW3.
