Can we take a moment to laugh at the headline changes coming with Part 2 of the Winter Core update? They would need to release like 20 of these to match the last SR update. How low did they have to go, so that a brightness change makes the update headline? It's probably one value, maybe two values that get selected based on the value "how bright is it outside". So glad I've stopped putting money into the clownshow.

Never. TSC Community stopped waiting for that about ten years ago. That´s why you find "route updates" on the usual websites. Unfortunately half arsed routes can´t be edited in TSW by skilled users. I would love to make some signal adjustments to Bremen-Oldenburg.

If a person with access to TSW's official dev tools wanted to they could easily edit the route and send the updated version to DTG. However, getting it actually released is a completely different thing.

DTG would probably allow it as long as they got a cut, which is fair seeing as it's their game.

Yeah, I have to agree. When it was first mentioned I thought the core update was going to be somewhere a little more comprehensive (like much needed performance tweaks and/or visual enhancements), but in reality all it's turned out to be is a bog standard patch containing a bunch of low level fixes.
Ok, so the formation designer has finally surfaced - but even that's in early beta so it does kind of beggar the question as to whether or not console gamers are actually going to see it in TSW4.

Well, if the formation designer remains PC only after being advertised as a game feature on all platforms, you can bet I'd not be giving away any more of my money to them.

I'm not sure that's the case. The released routes we get are baked, and basically can't be disassembled for editing; all we can do is add or overwrite things. DTG has the unbaked source files.

It's like trying to "unmix" a released album down into the individual studio tracks.

    Good analogy.

In my youth, I was into scottish Syd-Barrett-Coverband-turned-psychedelic-electronic-dance "The Shamen". Especially for the abundance of remixes at that time. A 90s thing. :D

They released an album called "Progeny" which contained only remixes of their biggest hit "Move Any Mountain", additionally all loops isolated with a note : "We're sick of remixing this [bugger], here's the bits go do it yourself". :)

    https://www.discogs.com/release/79876-Shamen-Progeny-Move-Any-Mountain-Progen

Got that limited CD by checking out all the record stores in Soho on a three days music shopping trip to London... before the internet.

Not what I meant. When I say 'official tools' I mean DTG's own, not the public editor.

Where's the fix for the crash I've been reporting for 8 months?

Why did they need this update in the first place?
Edit: oh wait, it was for something that broke somehow.

Have you done the survey? They are very much talking about a subscription based TSW rather than a one time payment. 100% worth it

I think if it ever happens, it would be an option rather than replacing the system completely. You buy what you want and if you think a subscription is worth it, you get it. They asked the same question in last year's survey but they haven't done anything so I don't think we would see it for a while.

Thinking about it, though - fill out the survey. All of us in this thread should. Not to skew it or break it, just to voice our opinions. They want feedback, don't they?

I filled it out myself, it is far from an ideal survey, but hey, gave my honest answers, and went on with my day.

I probably should have waited a couple of days before filling it out to include a route that I'll probably get during Festival of Rail. Not that -70% off discount convinced me to buy TSW4 already (it's still too much when I don't care for any of included with it routes), but -90% off may convince me to get Linke Rheinstrecke: Mainz - Koblenz for TSW3 this weekend. As one of the routes released in 2023, I'd give it some points instead of "not played", that I put there.

I guess it's value would depend on how much content you already own. For various reasons I flat refuse to buy any TSW3 & 4 addons, so for me personally having an option to make a one-off monthly payment in order to binge on that content does have a certain degree of appeal attached to it.

The only stumbling block I can see (and the reason I chose 'neutral') is that of cost and type/s of subscription because as we all know, you rarely see "Dovetail Games" and "value for money" in the same sentence so *if* this becomes a reality then I'm pretty sure it'll be structured in such a way that arms and legs will be the only form of currency accepted if you want something a little more worthwhile out of the service.

I can imagine tiers equal to how many DLCs you can unlock monthly. One way of another, I am very much against that history of DTG and TSW.

Yeah, If some sort of layered subscription emerged from all this then folk may as well continue doing what they've always done...wait until something is heavily discounted and buy it to keep. A policy that doesn't particularly suit DTG but it kind of serves them right for charging too much in the first place and encouraging people to go down that "wait for a sale" path.

Yeah, that survey was more of a fishing expedition, would you like or do this or that and really I am wondering what and where their thoughts are, at first I thought maybe it was a way to get a feel for what if UE5 is next, I don't see how or when TSW can go the UE5 road, would people spend the money? But then they through in multiplayer and subscription. NOPE, not going to happen, I'm already paying for XB Ultimate $15 monthly = $180 a year as opposed to 50/60 $ a year and I'm looking to reduce that, 90% of what is on there I have zero desire to use or cough cough own.

And now DTG is thinking of or talking about or just contemplating on a Subscription "Yeah right" Nice JOKE they call me By By Birdie, there is NO way on this God's green earth am I paying for a Subscription, I bought TrainZ through steam way back in 2022 while I started playing TSW3 & 2 on XB, I have not touched TrainZ 6 months after getting it, more like I Deleted it, once I saw what it would cost and what I already had. Not to mention all the broken content in TSW as it is now that goes back to TSW2020 that I know of, I sometimes wonder if would I have been better off sticking with TrainZ and dropping TSW.

Here is a novel idea, DTG on the 11th stream for the coming 2024 year in the roadmap, announces "We at DTG will FIX, work for the next 6 months on all the Broken content, not sidestep, not bypass, then we will remaster many of older content" <<-- Na I don't believe that either, but hey maybe Santa Clause Will Actually show he is real?

Don't think 6 months is enough time to fix all content and remaster the older content to tsw4 standards. Only have soo many employees per team and hours in a day, etc.

I don’t think the new rain is better. The rain hits the window and decides between running down at a 45 degree angle one way or a 45 degree angle the other, then zigzags down the screen in both directions, making 90 degree turns one way or the other to achieve this and never runs straight down or at any of the more realistic shallow angles. All the rain combined makes a very noticeable and distracting crisscross pattern on the screen. The droplets may be better but their behaviour is really bad. The old rain behaved in a more believable fashion even if it was a bit chunky. I think the new rain is terrible.

I really don't get adding UE5 as a option, the average person don't have the experience to properly assess what that change over would even do. This is something that should be decided internally by the company's programmers and leadership, it has no place in this survey if you ask me.

This only means how much the product is actually worth to them. The price outside of sales is inflated to get higher profit.

Yeah I am aware of that, hardly a good look for those who bought at full price. Just another reason not to dig straight in, you are getting scalped! But also the true worth...is a lot less...

And yet they will not do it for Console, why try and work with MS and PS so as not to leave out Console players?

Not only that but it's also a bit strange how TSW4 suddenly found it's way onto gamepass despite JD&co out and out stating in a stream it would not be replacing TSW3 when that got removed last September. It's almost like they've completely exhausted sales and are still well behind projected sales figures so as a last resort they've made it 'free' in some vain hope that subscribers might pick up a few addons to bolster those numbers.

Gotta say that in 2021 with the hopeful progress of the game (in spite of the Rush Hour issues which were largely fixed), I never imagined we'd be here now in what seems like a denoument.

They also had the Humble Bundle last year which was really cheap for what you get. It's pretty normal I would say.

Maybe, but they were lopping 35% off the price of the DX Edition three months ago (a mere six weeks after it's launch) on Xbox - and however you look at it, that is definitely not normal practice for an almost brand new game.

It can happen. I know some successful games have a 50% discount within a few months after launch or get a 30% discount a few weeks after launch.

To be fair, it depends on how you divide up the cost of the bundle. £35 is the price in the UK, and I like to think of it as a £30 route with a £5 game attached to it. To be fair it still isn't a good enough discount for me to jump in, even with the TSW4 standard edition at £12. When the base game gets to something like £5-7 then I might consider it.

To me, £12 is a good price when the original cost was £40. I see £28 off as a good deal

£2.99 for Linke Rheinstrecke was an amazing deal. Only issue was, buying it resulted in me having to uninstall then redownload/install the entirety of TSW4 and its DLC, because of the silly way Steam patches in new DLC. It creates a temporary copy of your entire game files just to patch in one 6GB DLC, so it was trying to duplicate 160GB of simulator on my drive, resulting in a "no free space" message despite having almost 100GB free. I managed to free up 133GB, reluctantly uninstalling other stuff, but that still didn't give me enough free room to install a 6GB DLC :|
