Should be a good route for UW to get their feet wet with, nothing overdramatic like their Tokyo or Tōhoku High Speed line

Got this in TSC it’s a nice route. Union Workshop are very good with unique scenery that stands out too, very lush trackside scenery. I presume the rolling stock will be the same. I hope they have Japanese announcements at the stations.
Oh yes expect to see cherry blossom!

Is it the full 84 miles?
According to Wikipedia (huge pinch of salt needed) only 8 to 9 trains run in each direction per day. Sounds dead.

The work-in-progress screenshots look gorgeous! Really looking forward to this one. I loved the route in TSC as well, but sadly the TSC graphics didn't do it justice.

I do wonder if we will get the KiHa 40 or the newer KiHa 110?

No, only from Aizu-Wakamatsu to Tadami, which is 88 kilometres. But that is still a nice lengthy run.

I wouldn't be worried about the number of services, this is a single track rural route, after all. The charm is in the scenery.

I have absolutely no interest in high-speed rail lines. I would love to see a 1067mm railway line in the 1990s. Classics such as 183 series, 201 series, 203 series would be perfect.

How the hell were those routes "overdramatic"?

Hopefully in the future we get something like the Wakayama Line from TSC. Commuter EMUs in a nice rural setting.

I assume by that he means that both Tohoku High Speed and Tokyo Commuter are high traffic routes with lots of rolling stock variety in real life, which UW just couldn't reproduce propely. So the routes, especially the Tohoku one, feel a bit empty and unfinished.

On the other hand, you can prefectly recreate Tadami Line with just the KiHa 40 or KiHa 110 and the route will feel just like in real life.

If you actually look things up you'll find that Tohoku High Speed has all the stock operated on that line in real life!

I recall passing traffic the other way in TSC, but it's certainly not the ECML.

Japanese routes are definitely not my strong suit, but I would much prefer the KiHa40, they were used on the route up until 2020, they just look more interesting

They literally run in tandem with the E5s to Morioka Station, I would consider that a pretty important gameplay elements of coupling and uncoupling at that station.

In one sense, but from a TSC perspective you have everything you need to see as AI.

why do you even play this sim every new thread that is made you are just being negative about it you are doing it here as well as the Fife circle because it has rivet games. Perhaps you should go and find a new sim that suits your high demand in content.

It does not. The main line is missing freight and plenty of other traffic.

Congrats to japanese users! finally asian railway, step forward from asian stock makers(Hitachi, Rotem etc.). seems like tradition of tadami line from MSTS now completed.

This is the biggest announcement for me , a Japanese route will offer some much needed variety and the route is absolutely gorgeous in real life so I'm hoping that UW can deliver. The lack of services doesn't really bother me because it's not a busy line.

Its also best for UW to start with a lower energy route to get used to working with the Editor and the Unreal Engine, and other features like timetable mode.

So apparently asking about the length of a route and saying that a route seems dead because it doesn't have many services is all of a sudden a negative opinion? That doesn't make any sense. Telling a person to find a different sim just because they asked about the length and pointing out that this route doesn't have a busy timetable is ridiculous.

You have a habit of complaining about often justified criticisms. It also seems you like to complain about posts that aren't even negative

Maybe in the future we may get one. I am glad that we are finally getting a route outside of Europe and North America. I do hope Union Workshop give this route justice. It may not be the busiest route in the world, but it does seem like a good starting point

I am too. I don't really know anything about Japanese railroading, but the landscapes I've seen online and the episodes about it on Eisenbahn-Romantik certainly intrigue me. Plus, I have fond memories of the Hisatsu line in MSTS. Most of that excitement would have evaporated if it was just a high-speed route.

Got a few Japanese TSC routes and really enjoyed the change of landscape. Watched a few cab videos of several Japanese routes on YouTube too. Cool stuff. Really different from the usual US/UK/DE landscape. :)

It would be nice to see some Japanese freight for variety. Does this line get any freight at all?

In the past probably, but nowdays no. Just the passenger timetable with the KiHa trains, and sometimes special runs with steam locomotives or diesel shunters hauling old passenger coaches.

It's missing freight - though I don't know how common that is on the Tohoku line - but otherwise the E5 and the 701 can represent every service on the line.

So the slow running low frequency lines really aren’t my thing, but I do respect the ones that favour quality & Union Workshop certainly do that.

Niddertalbahn as an example is not something I opt to play often, but it’s such an experience in its own right that it offers something no other route does. It’s not about how many trains run or how fast they go. It’s about true immersion into a virtual world.

Im glad that UW have opted for this path over a predictable Highspeed Shinkansen line. Whilst those have unique parts about them, the experience won’t be as special as something like Tadami.

This route won’t be something I spend many hours running, but it will be something I’ll enjoy a special experience on every now & then.

I too prefer a Japanese DMU branch line to a high speed route - more relaxing, arguably more skilled with lots of halts, and a chance to take in the scenery and atmosphere which is going to be remarkably different to anything we’ve experienced in TSW before. More of the same please.

While I speak for the minority here and also would like to see more (japanese) branch lines in TSW, I would enjoy driving a japanese high speed train somewhen in the future, too.

A duckbill train in a Dovetail game, seems to fit. :)

But anyway, I really hope that this is just the glorious start of the exploration of Japan in TSW.

I would assume we will get a Shinkansen in the future as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they remade their current TSC routes into TSW, after all the train models are already there in pretty high quality, route research is done, etc.

I don't see why a lot of people in this thread are acting as if the only types of railway in Japan are the Shinkansen and rural branch lines...

Most people simply think of the Shinkansen when they think of Japan. Similarly to how the TGV is the first thing in your mind if you think of France, I guess.

When someone thinks of England the first thing that comes to mind is London.

The Japanese Shinkansen is no different, it's the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Japan.

I see the most important question is not yet asked: does this mean the bing-bongs are finally coming to TSW? :)
