I had something like this the other day after buying Blackpool in the sale. Fortunately I was able to pause the download and then delete it before it got too far.

Maybe to you, but I don't see TSW4 as anywhere close to being worth £40, and so even £28 would seem like a bad deal. I'm happy content with TSW3 and the TSW4 base routes have no appeal to me whatsoever (TS is £4.99 right now and arguably the routes are a more appealing selection, especially with the returning Virgin Class 47 and the LIRR which is better than the TSW version), so the only reason to upgrade is to get access to the Blackpool route, which is great but isn't really a killer DLC. I don't need the editor for a variety of reasons, the free roam isn't as good as the Train Simulator one, the new graphical effects don't fix the graphical issues the game has already, the performance still isn't great, and the formation designer will be months from being complete. Where's the reason to spend £12 on it?
Theoretically you could have used the Steam console to download it separately and then copy the files into your main installation, but it's a hassle.

But yes, it's a good deal for £3. It's still quite fun despite the issues it has, and the older locos give a bit more of a challenge than modern stuff. The N-wagen is particularly fun, without a display of the loco's notch you have to use the ammeter to guess the power being applied, and there are many trips involved in the learning curve.

Not that it catches everyone's eye of course.

But with the little time I play the game (for various reasons unrelated to the game itself) £12 is a better bargain than £40. Although, given I don't use any of the TSW4 features (and likely won't), I see I wasted my money anyway.

There's also the whole thing in the survey or sorting things by priority, but no weight can be given to them. If I think 10 things are extremely important, some of them end up in the middle of the list and look unimportant.

This is true, everything is mere speculation at this point, on all of our parts here, but one also has to/should/could wonder.

So that Direct thingy happened... holy molly... A-B routes with extremely limited rolling stock... all of them... (except for some 3rd party stuff).

How on earth can you create one of the most important freight corridors in Europe without any freight on it? And only 2nd class Bmz? I remember when we were angry about not getting a restaurant coach for the Br 101... well now even the first class is gone for ÖBB. And you have to hope the 1116 is heavily reworked compared to the previous Taurus iterations and not another reskin. Has Talent 1 been given the CORRECT sound? Or are we about to see two more copies of it sounding like Talent 2?

Rosenheim-Salzburg... adding one loco, reusing everything else... honestly, with this and Semmering... where the hell is Railjet??? Oh my bad... behind another paywall... probably along with an Austrian freight pack...

Our British friends surely looking forward to yet another one-handle EMU. Not much else can be said...

Our US friends are getting a reskin on a straight line. Short end of the stick as usual, at least no UP Heritage this time :D

And with the current pricetags... yikes.

Meanwhile, on the Polish side of things, a loco-DLC will have three brand-new freight cars in multiple liveries and routes logically benefit from all rolling stock in the CORE.

This Direct stream probably best shows how extremely cut down the content has become, barely anything new, barely anything interesting, full price. Semmering is not just about one nice bridge, the traffic needs to be there, the banking locos, multiheaded trains, etc. It's laughable that anyone thought 4024+1116+Bmz is enough.

    Rant over :D

Actually, I'm more looking towards third party stuff, especially the Rivet one because I can finally drive a 170, a one-handle DMU.

Japanese route looks interesting, the TSC version is good but slight concern that UW raise their game on the train side of things, particularly sound, which is a bit scratchy in TSC. I’ll probably pick up the San Bernardino route. Fife Circle from Rivet is a big ????, I’m sure they will do the route justice but I have little faith the 170 won’t just be a rinse and repeat of the godawful 150. Semmering, never really engaged with that in TSC as noted above needs something iconic like the Railjet or they should have gone back to the 80’s/90’s. Goblin Line is a pass, 13 mile route with one handle train. Should have been the North London Line network.

I'm looking forward to the Metrolink Line, as the F125 and Rotem are both really fun, plus hype for the MP36. LIRR 2.0 will be great when they can sort out the Licensing I'm sure.

Fife circle should probably be good scenery wise, and with the 158 being put in by Skyhook at least there will be one good train on it. 170 I'm worried about.

I watched the TSW section, only because it's now on game pass, and it was a bit meh for me, Japan is always good to see though.

All I am waiting for is Blackpool branch to go on sale, because that actually looks good.

Nothing for me, TSW remains uninstalled. Picked up the BMG back 5 for TSC. After 5 minutes with it I will never drive another Steam loco in TSW again unless the bar is significantly raised. As for Fife Circle. Quite predictable. A route that can re use stock and have a clock face timetable set in an era where someone opening a shoebox is classed as interesting. Could have set it in the mid 80s but that don't sell....

Fife Circle actually comes with the 170 which we've not had in TSW yet, the 158 is a DLC.

I will wait for release of Tadami Line before deciding to upgrade the TSW to a newer version. Until then I can play on it in TSC, as well as on Semmeringbahn for which I recently got another loco, and Fife Circle for which I got a scenario pack. As for TSW3, I got some new old toys (German 90's stuff) to play on, too, so I have no need to upgrade yet.

I really don't see why DTG went with this Direct format. I expected at least a bunch of footage if they felt the need to do a whole song and dance. Instead this seems pretty much like what I would've expected from a standard roadmap. And outside of the new German & UK routes we didn't even get footage of most of this content, most of this content would've been perfectly served just getting a article.

As for the content itself, the only real thing that interests me is Tadami, nice to have confirmation what it is and the screenshots do look great. None of DTG's route choice really interested me, and while I'm still interested in the 104 they didn't tell us anything we didn't already know.

A couple of interesting points in that paragraph:
Firstly, I think it's perhaps a little unfair to say that there's barely anything interesting because at the end of the day they're all new routes and until they're actually released you don't really know what to expect. Goblin Line may have outstanding levels of scenery, the German-Austrian route might be an exhilarating trip through the mountains and the USA thing might not be a dull trip through yet another desert. I know the highest likelihood is a combination of bog-standard assets, tree lined tracks and nothing but sand for as far as the eye can see but until that becomes a reality then there's always an optimistic level of interest in the mix.

Secondly, the subject of cut down base content. It now seems to be the case that charging £30 for a route just isn't enough any more and this new purge on gameplay packs (DLC's within DLC's, may I hasten to add) is merely emphasising that point. Sure, the yay-sayers will doubtless harp on about how a measly £10 is enhancing a previously stale route...but at the end of the day all those £10's add up, to a point where total cost of a route could reach some really obscene levels. MML is already on that journey - and when it's 'part 2' bundle is released it will officially become a £50 route....Ouch!

As I said though, some with find reason to justify this new purge on squeezing every last penny out of a route but I personally have already found alternative ways in which to spend the various £29.95's Dovetail Games have insisted upon since TSW3 so I should have no difficulty whatsoever saying "no" to those tacky £10 addons.

Well metrolink is mostly mp36s and f125s in real life and it's not just a reskin.

I love one handled multiple units but the 710 could have been introduced on a much better route. I mean 13 miles you cant do anything... They should have released it on the GEML

There's still opportunity for the GEML to come, so at least we have the 710 ready, all we need is a FLIRT.

I mean outstanding scenery should be a must really considering the route length is only 13 miles. It really should be on the levels of BPO and remastered WSR for the length of it.

Im more interested in the variation Matt was on about because I don't see where its coming from? Maybe RHTT, rail tours and token 66 services?

The 710 looks great n all but im scared for the sounds... there are no Aventras in TSC or TSW so its gonna be completely new from DTG. New doesnt mean good.. Atleast they cant recycle anything tho cough 700

At first glance when you see that the goblin line is only 13 miles long, you automatically think it’s bad. This is what I thought, but after some digging and googling journey times it turns out most journey’s will be in the range of 30-40 minutes long, which is sub par standard for DTG on most routes.
It’s a complete route too, so there’s that.

All I can say is it’s fairly local to me and is a very busy route. If they do return trip scenarios that’s a good drive of 1.5 hours and you’ll see the scenery from both ways.

I expect they will have day and night, sunset, sunrise and lots of variation in weather conditions and freight causing reds etc. But it is true that this has limited replayability. That comes of any insular route like this. In many ways I'd of preferred the Overground 378 East London Line as it has a longer runs and more variety in passing traffic, especially as the 700 and 377 are already in the game allowing for perfect layering. DTG must do this now they have the TFL license surely?

It's probably even worse than the Glossop line in concept. At least that had the branching at the country end and the, albeit empty, Manchester Piccadilly. Of all the forthcoming routes this one is at the bottom of the pile and really seems like the runt of the litter compared to all the other stuff coming out, even the Rivet route.

And yet it might turn out to be marginally more interesting than San Bernadino, which is 58 largely single track miles with little promise of AI interaction, no freight that we know of and mostly re-used rolling stock, although it does work up to 79 mph. Of course it does have a very likeable main line diesel and possibly a cab car which somewhat extends its replayability.

Of all the new stuff, I'll likely be spending a lot of time driving the 104 dmu around wherever it will layer or sub into plus the LIRR if it gets a revamp. Nothing much else gives me any goosebumps.

True, but that’s the case with about 90% of routes on this game.
I think being a Londoner and having used this line a fair bit, adds to the appeal for me. That’s not to say it won’t get boring though after a while though.
Having too much fun with HellDivers 2 atm, so TSW is side lined for now. When I do return to playing it, it will feel fresh.

a Licence is only valid on that one route you apply the licence for you cant use the same license for more than one product. Each time you want to do another route from the same brand you need to apply for a licence for that new project.

They could've definitely made more branches within reasonable length, perhaps use the fact that they've modeled part of it with Bakerloo and have done Clapham. Why not use Willesden as a centre of the route and do all the Overground branches going from there? Yes, it would be longer, but the replayability would be way higher.

If the Goblin route has attention to detail and a good variety of layered services, it may be worth a punt. Glossop, although the concept is pretty uninspired, is quite nicely detailed and makes a not unpleasant half hour's drive with some stock layering for interest.

There is a different milestone coming up. We're about 700 posts away from overtaking "Livery Designer Creations" thread which would make this the largest thread on the forums. Given how old that thread is, I think we're on a good trajectory :D

As LIRR (and MN) seem to be the closest we will ever get to a NY subway route in TSW, I’ll be joining you on Day One for that. And the 104 is also pencilled in, however I just have a nagging feeling it’s further away than the Roadmap hints given all we have are greyscale images of the 3D model at present. Even if not prototypical, would like to see it layered/random substituted on all routes where we currently operate the MetCam 101 and a “classic” Legend style layer on the Goblin might be the one thing that would persuade me to grab the route, in a sale.

No problem, TFL were just as cooperative in TSC with Overground and Underground routes aplenty getting the deal of approval. They have already given it to the Bakerloo Line in TSW. Don’t worry getting furthers TFL licenses for new routes will be a breeze.

Yeah more branches on the route would’ve been nice. That’s just not how DTG operate unfortunately. In an ideal world routes would go A-B, A-C and A-D, but we only ever get the one variant of that formula.
I know I quote this a lot, but Dresden and SEHS only offer this experience. You can see why they are some of the most played routes in the game.
If only DTG played more attention to customer preferences. Clearly none of us want A-B routes.

The true underdog of branches was LIRR, but that was held back by the ghosttown of a timetable. Cathcart is the same case, great route with variety of services, but nothing else. Empty Glasgow with only the 314s.

There have been some good routes that are not very long examples being IoW 2022 and Nidderterbahn.
At least with Goblin we get a new EMU, Glossop was just a rehashed 323 which is why I didn't buy it.

Whilst true in terms of Niddertalbahn and IOW, the issue is that long term, they do get boring due to the lack of things that can be done. Routes like Riesa-Dresden and SEHS are popular is because of the variety of trains and different lines you can run on. Many TSW routes don't offer that unfortunately

Given the choice I too would prefer longer routes, short linear routes do seem a cop out by DTG. Whilst the Goblin Line is a start for hopefully more TFL proper routes, I would have preferred the 710 on a longer run for sure, trouble is that would have involved the Lee Valley Line and adding either Liverpool Street or Euston (Watford Jct), both being starkly empty of course at this stage. I hope the East London Line with the 378 follows.

The Goblin Line must be a filler given its short length. Hopefully it was just a way of getting g the 710 in TSW.

What layered services?? The GOBLIN is a self contained route. All you will see on it is 710 and freight. The trains you see at Barking arent in game nor the 378s at Gospel Oak. The the route is just gonna be 710 and the occasional 66
