Alright, I finally caved and bought TSW4 on sale, just so I could do this today while taking an 801 up from Newcastle to Edinburgh.
Dang, its gonna cause real life to start lagging. You'll probably also get delayed because an AI train up front got stuck on a danger signal
This holiday is actually off to a really nice start, our accommodation has gorgeous views of the snow-capped highlands and overlooks the railway.
Ayaneo Geek 1S, similar specs to the Ally, also a 7840U machine. I'd rate its performance similarly to my Xbox Series S, in that it can push a reasonable 60fps in games like CP77 on lower settings (though unlike the Series S, it can have high crowd density and manage 60fps). Obviously to get close to that in TSW it requires DX12 mode and doing an end to end no signals scenario planner shader compilation run prior to actually playing. I unfortunately didn't have the Edinburgh-Glasgow route installed at the time so didn't do the Waverley-Falkirk stretch on the 801 to Inverness, but will see about snapping a shot of it on the way back. Rivet really ought to add in those services to that route, perhaps in an overhaul to each end of the line once Fife Circle is finished. Would be nice to see a few of them bound for or coming from Stirling.
It's a powerful little system that can punch above its weight in well optimised games like CP77, Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider Man and the like. Occasionally with the odd compromise to hit a stable 60 like enabling FSR2 Quality mode, lowering settings a bit (volumetric fog and high quality shadows causing notable slowdowns, so turning those off is often a must), dropping the res from the full 1200p of the display to 960p. Whatever helps a given game hit that target. But of course, like even the heftiest 4090 desktop it struggles with the usual issues in TSW.
I tried doing that with MSTS on an Acela train out of Philly a few years ago with my laptop. My then fiance at the time just looked at me like 'Really?' I couldn't play very long though, my brain got motion sick with the physical train moving at different speeds from the digital one lol.
I thankfully don't experience that, so had a pretty fun time of it. I did definitely get sighs and eyerolls from my partner.
C'mon Rivet, make it happen! On today's journey back from Pitlochry, I set up a Falkirk-Edinburgh custom LNER 801 service, and saved and exited the game running it just at the point where the tracks from Grahamston merge with the route. Then fired it up right as the train reached that point, and played it alongside the journey all the way to Waverley.
Impressive if you want to you might as well get the United States route Northeast Corridor Trenton to Boston. If you are very lucky you can get Amfleet I business class for cheap. Be aware that some Trenton to Boston Regional trains via Providence Rhode Island are the Amfleet IIs which means a 2+1 business class seating. Let me guess are you trying to reach the new route on the Forth Bridge
Bit far from my neck of the woods, the NEC. You're more likely to see footage of me sitting on a Northern Class 158 from Darlington-Saltburn while playing the TVL with the same DMU in the same livery. Or possibly riding an 802 from Leeds-Manchester while playing with a custom Transpennine Express livery 801 masquerading as an 802 on NTP in off the rails mode.
dunno why I just had funny dirty thoughts that associate partner and trains with the word ride lol ... dont mind my brain being in the gutter sometimes XD
