Forgive me if I have completely misunderstood this. Do the neutral sections on ECML work with the 801 and how do I tell because whenever I go through them, there isn't an absence of power application indicated on the hud. I know that there isn't a need to reset an MCB, since there isn't one, but it would make sense if there was a dip in power application as the train goes through the section. If a 91 is ever added would it be more noticeable?
If that's the case it's a real shame. They went to the effort of simulating them in Voralberg and the updated DRA, would have made sense to put it in ECML and uphold the new TSW4 standard.
They’re there but they don’t work as they’re supposed to. If you have the traction lock icon enabled you can see it flicker when you pass through a NS but that not how it should work. And the Line & MCB/VCB lights in the actual train don’t work properly either… I brought this up as a question in the December roadmap stream, they acknowledged this problem but obviously nothings been done yet
They don’t work on that route. Tbh as a far as you can tell how you would know in the cab there is really nothing much a driver is required to do in real life these days with modern stock. With older stock such as a 86/87 etc it was important the driver took off power and ensured the amps where at 0 before entering neutral section to avoid tripping out. Newer modern stock you can just drive through them basically. Some stock has a light in the cab on the console desk which when power is been drawn from the OHLE will illuminate white when it’s not the light turns off so all you see is the light flick on and off and back on again. More noticeable at night time.
I'm sure I read or heard somewhere that that's seen as bad practice and drivers are still expected to turn off the juice, I could be wrong though.
In most trains all you have to do take the power off and coast through but I believe for the class 390 that’s unnecessary
Yeah you can put the handle to neutral but if your slow to do it it won’t have the same effect as what the older stock done if you didn’t have the amps to 0
No they don't work in game which is as said rather strange but not not surprising given it is DTG. Also with the powering down it is seen as good practice more than anything else on modern stock because most of the time you are sitting on full power on the speed limiter and so you just don't want to jolt the train too much through the cut out of power and then it reapplying to full again. I must admit when our new trains came into service I, for what ever reason, thought I were in an older one with the power down, except it were in full power being held on the limiter and I didn't power down which did cause a small but noticeable jolt and I had a rather displeased TM and train staff at the end of the trip. Needless to say I haven't done it again!
I haven't paid that close attention to the traction lock on the HUD so will have to keep an eye on it next time. Still seems odd that they go to the effort of putting in the signs and implementing it on two routes. Although it's probably down to the Vectron that it was implemented on DRA.
If we ever get classes 81-87 in TSW, we'd better get working neutral sections or there'll be riots. Tap changer loco + forgetting where the neutral sections are = fun times.
