This is my first time getting everything set up with enhancements for Ultra on the new RTX 4090 / 14900k set up and I'm blown away... WOW. Incredible job. Literally GAME-CHANGING. Can't go back to vanilla settings ever again!

The colors, the dynamic range on the lights/darks... phew *stares in awe

The 200% resolution scaling just makes it all that much better too

 

v4.1.2 is now on TSC with text only pre-sets for Rosenheim to Salzburg.

Please accept my apologies. I thought it was nailed but in certain lighting it was still far too bright. I have updated the Rosenheim pre-sets in v4.1.3 which is on TSC. Sorry again to those who've already downloaded it.

yup I Am very happy with how the route looks now
a copy paste from another route just does not do it

 

I’m aware that, in the rush to get this out, the balancing act that needs performing is perhaps not 100% there. The very latest version (which is, to be honest, a development of v4.1.3) is better. Previously there were still times it was vastly overexposed, but then there times it was a smidge too dark.

I’ll keep working on it, but what is on TSC right now is the latest version.

Using the new update to that new route as a base
As an added bonus I'm using the new Nvidia App that's supposed to be replacing Geforce Experience. This also has RTX HDR which I'm using.

 

Hey all. I'm really not happy with my setup of this Salzburg route, it's proving to be a tricky nut to crack. I'm out of time for today but this is where I'm at with the Ultra pre-set. It fixes the floating tile in the sky (caused by increasing the grass cull distance, I don’t understand that either) and the flickering shadows at Rosenheim. I'll have to do more work on it another time but for now at least this is acceptable I believe. You can extrapolate the relevant bits for the other pre-sets if needs be;

That’s odd, it should be the exact opposite. I made the changes because the previous version was too dark, and what is above is brighter than the previous version in almost every respect. Did you delete the previous version in its entirety before applying the new one? If you’re editing it yourself, did you get all the relevant parameters across?

Failing that could you give me the service, date and weather setting(s) and I’ll take a look.

The lighting at 18:00 in Spring looks fine to me. If you’re talking about the fact that it’s dark at 18:30 in April that’s nothing to do with this mod.

This controls the lighting and graphical fidelity only, it has nothing to do with the games Time Of Day system but FWIW I’d say something is wrong with that on this route. At 1830 on July 2nd the sun is well on it’s way to going down which is very clearly incorrect.

 

We appreciate all your hard work with this mod! We’ll allow you off the hamster wheel once in a while. You’re allowed the occasional mistake too, I guess.

 

It seems the SRM clock is set to GMT (UTC+0), though it should be UTC+2 in July. It's wrong on many routes, and that's causing the dark stations issue. The lights go on at the correct time but the sun is setting way too early (and rises too early). The SilverLining 3D clouds system in TSC is much more close to reality in that respect, sun is always rendered at the accurate position based on route coordinates and date (plus DST settings in the route properties).

Is that something that we can alter do you think? I’ve never looked in to it, but it’s definitely off. Had a go on SEHS last night and it was the same thing, about 1930 local time in July and the sun was disappearing below the horizon. Surely this can’t be something that is hard to rectify?

 

The settings have improved again! For me, it's perfect.

Thanks again Jetwash. I was playing Salzburg last night and with your Ultra settings and everything maxed out and it was so immersive, there were times It could have been a cab ride video.

It's not in the WorldDefinition, there's only coordinates and height above sea levels given... so it could be a core issue.

 

Don't know what I have done wrong. Installed per the manual yet when I move my cursor to the top of the screen do not get a drop down menu to access the files.

 

Do you have the current version of Foobian's God Mode installed? A new one just dropped a couple of days ago.

 

I think so, will check. The one in my dl file is 0-5-3. That is also the one in my dlc folder.

Make sure there aren’t two versions in your DLC folder. Foobian changes the file name each update (so it won’t override the old version) and I believe the new version always populates last as it is a higher number meaning the old version is the one that loads.

 

JetWash, nope, just the newest one. Will re download it to make sure the file is ok.

How to feel stupid!!! I had dl and installed the wrong version.

Now that the correct version is installed, works great.

They are indeed. There’s quite a lot of tweaks to them to improve the look and detail. Glad you like it!

 

Have to say the sky is amazing now with very realistic looking clouds.

 

Hopefully you’ll see them moving and changing shape too. It’s only in the current Ultra preset but when I put up 4.2.X it’s in all them.

 

Just wanted to add something which has not been addressed (correct me if I am wrong).

Each ToDv4 route has a basic blueish fog, that is always there independent of the weather. It starts at 400 metres distance and can be changed using TimeOfDaySystem.Fog.StartDistance

Yeah thats way to much..... It looks if its always a foggy day... If you compare that to the real world you never experience it all the time! Looks like there is a fire nearby!

 

It still took me a while to recognise that fog, which I was countering with Tonemappergamma etc.

Became very apparent on a clear summer noon on LFR. It helps to hide the often ugly distant scenery.

 

Thanks for the info. I’m going to leave that one as something people can change if they feel it necessary as it’s not something I mind all that much to be honest.

As it stands the game doesn’t really simulate atmosphere in the weather engine and at least fog gives some indication that there is in fact moisture in the air. I’ve never been to the Rhine Valley but assuming it’s similar to other densely wooded areas (particularly Pine Forest) with water nearby some degree of distant mist is probably more normal than not. It’s certainly something we see reasonably regularly in the UK, particularly in the warmer months.

It’s definitely a good find though as to how to kill it if needs be!
