Vorarlberg is great and I really enjoy it. No complaints -- but a question, if anyone knows the answer to it. Why didn't St. Margrethen make the cut? Lustenau to St. Margrethen is one extra stop, includes another fancy border crossing (into Switzerland), and completes the actual S3 service pattern to Bregenz. There's a very pretty bridge over the Rhine, and St. Margrethen has an extra rail yard that includes a Stadler manufacturing facility (!). Anyone know? Maybe someone said it during a DTG stream, but I can't recall.
I would have loved to see the Route going all the way to St. Margrethen just like the TS Route. I still hope for an extention.
At the end of the day, any route project has to decide the limits of its extent, or you would just keep on going. That doesn’t of course mean they should be illogical, like Ambergate on PFR, but if you just kept building the project would never get released.
Theoretically, they even could have done the 4 country corner including the S2 from Feldkirch to Buchs over the micro state of Liechtenstein. We had a great suggestion which covered that idea: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...-lindau-bludenz-expansions.73012/#post-707355 I really wish route expansions would be a more common thing with this game franchise. But unfortunately ressources and capacities do not even seem to be enough to get features into the game/improve them so that they can be used properly that were brought up as a selling point. Here is a map of what all thereotically could have been possible with the S-Bahn Voralberg network:
This will probably be a £29.99 route extension in the future, knowing that DTG are the QVC shopping channel of video games and love generating hype for DLC. "Now you can play a route with TWO border crossings!!!!!! Pre-order the new route extension today!!!!!!" There will probably be a new fancy 30 second video trailer especially made for it an everything... We all know how DTG operate by now.
Its a Longshot but rivet could've been put in charge of that.. even with the flaws that S-Bahn Zentralschweiz had.
That's true, im aware. If nothing else, the assets could've been given to DTG to use, though I'd expect for them to already have access to that.
I do agree it was a bad call to miss one station into another country, 1 station to make a triple country route should have been an option they couldn’t of passed, it being in TSC and not TSW kinda is another kick of TSW’s image/marketing/fact as the superior one.
Could have had Feldkirch – Buchs SG as well and had it going through 4 countries total (Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein and Switzerland.)
It might be that concern over capacity on 8th-gen consoles meant that they didn't want to have the route load up a large number of Swiss assets (signage, signals, catenary poles, catenary itself, trackside equipment, PIS screens) on top of the German and Austrian ones.
Same goes for Buchs - Feldkirch, which is a bit more than the section to St.Margrethen, but a rather big freight yard. The Voralberg route calls for extensions. Buchs has always an interesting freight loco mix. 185s along the Re620s and a lot of the Taurus. Beside that a very interesting passenger traffic (öbb railjet).
Could not refrain from looking that up. Looks pretty cool. Although I don't like to do so, I need to do the comparison to ETS2 here again because the similarity/possibility immediately jumped into my mind: For ETS2 there are two trailer DLCs available, the Feldbinder and Krone Trailer Pack. Both of these DLCs not only provide you new trailers but also the location/map of both respective manufactories in Winsen and Werlte (somewhere around Hamburg and Bremen) as a map expansion. I mean I'm not advocating for a DLC like that here, but something like a Stadler Loco DLC which includes a timetable improvement with the new loco(s), the part to St. Margrethen, the completion of the S3 and the Stadler manufactory (with maybe a few scenerios) could at least be a nice idea by the example of what SCS did in ETS2. Here is some footage of the factory:
Lukas confirmed closer to the release that it was because they didn't have time / it didn't make sense to spend the development time learning another signalling system and creating a whole new set of assets eg. Swiss catenary All of the track is laid however if they decide to revisit it later.
They could have used their power of overlord and requisitioned the Rivet stuff from Luzern to Sursee...
Oh gawd, not this stupid argument again, surely? What happens when 8th gen is dropped? Are you all suddenly going to blame 9th gen, 10th gen, your neighbours cat? I don't think alienating your third-party content creators is a good way to win support from anybody. Just a sure fire way to scare off new partners from coming anywhere near DTG.
What happens when 8th gen is dropped is the game has much higher minimum RAM and processing power to play with. 8th Gen is ELEVEN years old. By technology standards it is literally ancient. It is time to move on, and stop letting the game be held back.
To fund the game development, Gen 8 is needed as it is still a large customer base, that's the top priority for the developer. Not cutting edge tech, but reaching the most customers possible. Be aware also that a game that is based on DLC collections must be a long term project where compatibility is very important - probably more important than using the latest technology. Jump to UE5 now and all content will be obsolete. That has to be considered from an economical perspective. It's easy for self-contained games but not for the DLC based business model that DTG is built upon. Delivering good and varied content is much more important - that's what's made TSC successful. The core code was laid out twenty years ago and it's still going. (And TSW development started around ten years ago)
