Thought it was a bit odd they didn’t let us hear the train as it was departing the station. It looks absolutely great model wise.
Just seen the 170 walkaround vid. Being honest the sounds need work asap. Idle sounds slightly rough compared to real life and when it departed at the end there seemed a lack of turbo "humming" Time will tell if they tweak the sounds would love to know if they managed to go out and actually record them this time
Honestly considering it's rivet it doesn't sound TOO bad, it isn't perfect but it definitely isn't as bad as the 150 or 385
The model I think looks very nice, it's just the sounds again that prove to be Rivet's weakness, not so much the idling but the departure sounds are very quiet and doesn't have that bass that the real unit has
Well I would say that the sound should be a lot more bassy and audible in cab even with widows closed. The characteristic raising sound of accleration is almost non existent.
The positioning on the gangway looks too low since you can see a gap on the top of the gangway, I'm assuming that's a development bug that'll be fixed, the modelling is spot on though
I'm a bit disappointed to be honest. The modelling is great as always, that's kind of expected with Rivet. The sounds aren't great, they sound a bit rough. I feel like it's missing the whine present in the AP pack. We can say it is still in development but I'm not optimistic they will be changed much. However my only experience with these are the Southern 171s in real life and the AP pack, more-so the latter. So excuse me if there are differences with thr Scotrail lot. I'll wait for the release and make my full verdict though, but initial feelings are a bit unsure.
slight issue the picture/video rivet uploaded is the REFURBISHED lights that units actually have. There is a picture of 170415 on this website here if you scroll down and the lights are the refubished ones which is the ones rivets showing in there video https://www.google.com/search?clien...B&biw=1920&bih=919&dpr=1#imgrc=RTmNS3LhKTuSqM
the only thing different is the metal frame around the headlight is not metalic grey and painted purple. Hardly groundbreaking and not going to break the sim is it lol
As a local to scotrail class 170 I am 50/50 on the sounds for the 170 when stationary sounds ok but not 100% but dealable it's hard to judge the running sounds when moving as they showed it from the cab possibly trying to hide it even if the vid does say work in progress I don't think anything else will get done in terms of sounds
The first glimpse of the 170 looks and sounds pretty good to me. However, the key question will be whether the performance is realistic. Rivet never managed that with the 150 (even after two attempts) and although I don’t own the 385, reports are that it’s also pretty questionable in terms of performance (particularly braking). I won’t be purchasing the new route until I’ve listened to what others have to say about the 170’s performance - unless, that is, there are HST schedules included. I know the HST is quite well done, so I’d buy the route just to run that on it, if it’s in the timetable.
I think it looks fine. I don't think I would want to comment on the sounds until I have heard the final product, we heard little of them anyway. It would be really helpful if developers put work in progress labels on their developmental products, so people would know to give them some leeway until the final product is shown off rather than jumping in saying how rubbish it is.................
Sadly the entitlement of many in this hobby you could have world in progress in big flashing letters they still wouldn’t understand lol
Just ignore them do not reply its what they want. Keep the thread on topic mate as they are trying to get it locked. report the comments and ignore them.
Anyway back to the topic at hand, I'm really looking forward to the preview stream so we can see the Forth Bridge in all it's glory.
As expected the modelling seems to be very good on the whole from what is shown, obviously ignoring the gangways which clearly need a bit more work on them. The sounds seem to be alright when idling, however that acceleration snippet didn't quite sound 'Turbostary', but again it is work in progress and only a very small snippet so the jury is still out on that one. It certainly hasn't turned me away from buying the route, that is for sure, so I will, likely, join others in awaiting more information on the route and what other things it may include, along with the 170's progress.
Release must be pretty close. I reckon after the London Overground line is released. Both the 385 and the Bernina line preview videos were shown around a month before there routes were released. Just a guess.
Just posted in the other thread, after comparing with the AP 170 on Wherry Lines in TSC, Rivet sounds once again seem to be a dud.
Sounds are nowhere near the standard of the 170 in the TSC Fife Circle either. But the route itself is going to be tempting, what a conundrum...
Theres no bass in the engines, you cant hear any strength or roar. It sounds like its between notch 1-3 not 5-7. It just sounds weak. Im curious, what is your opinion on it? It seems you defend DLC with you life so go ahead.
Perhaps as it isn't finished yet. Personally I think it is nice to get these previews of how things are coming along.
Poor sound mixing, missing sounds, etc. I've already compared it to the ap sound pack. I don't know how it sounds in real life either. I am quite critical of tsw in certain aspects. I still enjoy tsw despite the issues
If you are happy with sub-par audio, good for you mate. I'm sure the majority of the users in this thread have an interest in the 170 and want it to live up to it's potential in the sim, hence why people are highlighting (or what you believe is "whinging") the same issues. I believe if multiple people are bringing up the same thing it's something that is of concern and has to be looked at. Apologies if I have come off as rude. Apologies for disrupting this thread as well.
Unless what they showed off was a release build it’ll be work in progress until maybe a couple weeks before a release date
I don't think it is quite that level, certainly seeming better than the attempt of a 150! So far it is looking like a rather bog standard quality dlc, pending more sounds from the acceleration which will tip the balance, hopefully in a positive way as the 170 is going to need to be done well.
Yea I'm aware but it's still the same issue. Rivet always struggle with sounds given their track record
And I travelled on them loads as well the sounds are not quite right yet on that video they still net a bit of work. I would say that gives me a pretty good idea on sounds. Also as a driver IRL not on 170s but you can tell what it sounds like when a motor is stepping up and the gears are changing.
That’s good if you’re happy with them. Many others like myself have noticed the differences and its feedback like that which will help rivet notice the issues before release.
