So I got to play Niddertalbahn recently, out of all the things in that route, the one scenario that stuck out to me was scenario "A Glimpse into the future". Now obviously, this is literally just a fun little spooky mission with no real meaning behind it.. since I doubt that TSW has any in-universe "lore". However, it'd be interesting to think that maybe, maybe Niddertalbahn never actually takes place presently as we see it. That instead, the driver is simply remembering the past, during their glory days when things were simple. The desire to go back into the past being so strong, it unfolds around them like a full illusion. However, since it's just a memory and not reality, it's not necessarily perfect the longer it goes on. Because of this imperfection, the present sometimes leaks into their memories, specifically the modern signals slowly appearing because.. well that's just the present. The text telling the driver to approach it and afterwards to drive away full speed with the BR 363, is not another person. But instead it's their own mind telling them to run from the present and instead further dig themselves into the past. They don't want to face that things just have changed, that things aren't as they used to be. Alternatively, the driver could be close to their eventual passing. As they lay in hospital, they simply remember their glory days as a train driver and just as above, a bit of the present leaks into their memories. There could also be a possibility that instead it does actively take place, but due to unknown forces, the area tends to have temporal anomalies when the fog rolls in. Either way, these are just a few personal headcanons I had. In reality though, as said before, it's literally just a spooky fun special scenario and my brain is just looking way too deep into a train simulator lol
Mate, you want your head blown? Wait until you discover that we all do not exist at all in a physical form since we are simply products of Matt's mind! He will obviously not confirm nor deny, and this, in itself, says a lot.
My opinion on this scenario, the driver have a dream, maybe he drive in the past, and the signals that appear and disappear are one prevision of the future changes of the route. I've done one research after completing this scenario and discover that today in real world this route is still not electrified. So i have think this way on my side
Yeah, for some reason I genuinely struggled to find the route on Google maps till I realized I was writing the locations wrong
I have found more LORE! If you play for example Breaking the bank on Peak Forest and press Esc and go to overview you see the date 28th of March 1963. Start Manual labour or Hugging trees and go to the same menu and what do you see there? 2nd of June 2022 Start Glimpse into the future and what? 2nd of May what year? 2022 We are onto something here! I need more to find out what´s up with this route, i need that LORE! PS: the screenshot comes from Glimpse into the future right at the start (you can see the 363/365 in the background)
Im super late to the response but yeah, I find this stuff super interesting. Adding Lore to Simulators is always a complicated ordeal as often times, there is no Lore to be written. The Lore in the Universe is the same Lore or History of our world, as it is a simulation of our world. However, I wouldn't actually mind too much a bit of creative Lore being added into the game as secret bits for particularly observant players to discover and brainstorm about, trying to figure out what it means. Personally, it's how I've generally gone about explaining to inaccuracies of TSW to myself, explaining them as nothing more than the World of TSW being different than ours. Like the various trains we do not have just yet in the game, having to substitute it for others to simulate IRL services, I simply say: "Well that's what DB did in this universe." Of course, this doesn't work for everyone but ja, I think it's just interesting to think about while driving.
Very interesting. I wouldn’t mind seeing this type of stuff being used in scenarios as I’ve come to associate them with slightly weird things that wouldn’t normally happen in reality (timetable mode). Quite funny to read this as this is exactly how I dismiss various bugs and inaccuracies.
