The new preview images look good and no doubt this is a good size route. However for me it is still going to hinge on how good the sounds and physics are on the 170. I mean the 150 on WCL looking great, but just a bag of potatoes when it came to driving the thing.
They do look great. Can’t believe the Forth Rail bridge. It’s perfect. It’s a bit strange they haven’t shown the Forth Road Bridge and the Queensferry Crossing though. Hope they haven’t been left out because that would be disappointing.
I find this route a lot more appealing than the Goblin so as long as they get the sounds right for the 170 this should be a good route. Not sure I understand why they went for fictional promo art with a railway line running adjacent to the Forth bridge, gives off AI vibes to me but route is sounding good so far.
Said earlier on in the thread but if Rivet nail this one they should be quids in! I rarely buy any route out of a sale and I am stoked for this one.
Definitely not AI - it simply looks like 2 images merged, both from the game. It has a paint stroke effect on everything minus the 170
Are you kidding me! Two British routes in the space of a week? This is great! Then they stepped up the release plan even more in this TSW.
Beautiful what they have done with the route and they fixed the gangways!!! But (theres always a but with me) the destination font is ummmm questionable?
It’s better than it was (and on the 385). If the choice is this, or that horrible font in large letters, I’ll have this.
As someone who has lived in Edinburgh all their life, I honestly couldn't even tell you if it was right or not. It looked fine to me.
Very well said. TSW (probably) will never have the sheer variety of stock as TSC, so it needs to have as much of what IS available to as many players as possible IMO. Even though the mod community does fantastic work, that content isn't available for console players. I'd love to see something like the "preservation team" or whatever they called it back in TSW2 but dedicated to revisiting timetables. The timetable is the heart of TSW and needs to be a higher dev priority IMO.
Is the 158 releasing with route or do we have to wait? Because in the release notes it just mentions the 170.
I must say, assuming the sounds are up to scratch at release, I think I may well end up buying this as it is looking a good route and the modelling, as expected, continues to show it's worth. £30 for this is certainly a much better deal then other offerings to the game within a similar time period. I do really hope the 170 sounds good on release though as that will make or break it. Roll on the preview stream!
Must admit despite my concerns about the sound it is tempting, especially with the little pre-order discount. £26.99 for this versus £25 (no po discount) for the 13 mile Goblin Line. I guess worst case is there are two hours to try it and see if up to scratch.
Yes, that reminds me that not only discount on steam but I think I have a £5 rewards voucher waiting to be used on the Xbox from the points as well, knocking it down to the same price as GOBLIN there! I will certainly try it on steam with the pre-order, before committing owt on the Xbox just in case they do fluff it!
No doubt rivet will use it as an excuse to make people buy engineering express and only have those specific sheds layer on.
It all looks really good! My only gripes as said above are the p.i.s. I mean, if your not going to do smart p.i.s at least do the right font. I hope the sounds are okay but apart from that it all looks fantastic!!
Fife Circle is now available to pre order on Steam with the normal 10% discount. Release date is 26 March.
In all honesty, E-G is fine other than the train sounds (fixable on PC). It's actually a pretty good route; I think all this fixation on audio has unfairly besmirched its rep.
It’s not unfair though is it, when the audio makes up its own, quite sizeable sensory aspect of content. Never mind the fact it’s not real 385 audio, the mixing & implementation of what is there is pretty egregious. It’s easy to say it’s ‘pretty good’ when you can just sweep aside a pretty significant part of the experience, and/or depend on a community member to fix it for you. Any route which had only the BR 187 as its main traction would be subject to the same, harsh rejection.
Yea. Console players don't have access to these community fixes which is also very annoying. It shouldn't be a thing that has to be modded. It should be a basic thing that is done well. Sounds are a core feature of any route.
On sounds; same announcements as EDN. Not awful (they do sound a bit better - but it may help that they aren't prone to mistimed manual activation) but still a distance off the real thing. Not too bothered as announcements > no announcements but I'd have expected RG to have looked into the real, open-access, ones. Maybe licensing stopped them.
I may be wrong but i'm 70% certain there was a disclaimer over their use and that whilst free to be used or listened to, the license didnt cover commercial use. It's in a tweet somewhere by scotrail.
With sounds, I can see how people in the UK who have first hand knowledge of what the unit sounds like, can be unhappy with those in the game. But, those of us who live elsewhere in the world and have no clue as to what the unit should sound like, what is there is good to me.
We still don’t actually know for certain about the announcer voice being used yet. I know we heard the 385 announcer in the trailer but that could have just been for the trailer only. You are probably correct though. I would much rather we had the proper Announcer like in the TSC version. I guess we will find out for sure on the preview stream.
There's definitely a local divide because i'm local to Edinburgh for 30+ years and for all the stuff that people are claiming is wrong with the DLC, I hadn't noticed nor am i really bothered about. :P
I'm a bit surprised (and somewhat disappointed) that Rivet never bothered to use AP's sounds for the 170. While the AP 170 isn't 100%, it is MUCH closer to reality. Rivet's 170 sounds totally wrong. 170s have a very distinct rev and idle to them that's just missing here. I'm also hoping that the announcements can be toggled on and off. I'm not too fussed about announcements, but it'd be nice to choose if you want them to play or not.
I agree; having lived in West Scotland since the day I was born. There's a couple of things off - mainly the absence of the signature 170 sound (i don't know how to describe it), but otherwise I think it's fine.
I agree with you on that. Even though I’m from the UK, I too have no idea what this unit sounds like. Londoner myself, main trains I use are Class 465/6, 700 and the underground. It wouldn’t really affect my experience though, as I’m not OCD on authenticity when it comes to train sounds. How they look and what route they run on is the most important aspect to me. As well as enjoying trains, I’m somewhat of a car bod too. I play a lot of Gran Turismo, which features over 700 cars on the game. Not all of car sounds are 100% accurate either, but again not the most important feature for me. It’s funny how we’re all different like that though.
When it comes to Rivet and certainly the 150, it's not the sounds themselves that were necessarily bad. it's how they were mixed and related to the performance of the train. i.e. nothing like a high revving first gen Sprinter unit. I could take the 170 sounds not being 100% authentic in mix - as I said I don't think the 172 in TSC uses the correct sounds but it's a good mix and matches the physics - but it has to at least emulate how the unit would rev, when the fluid drive transitions etc. etc. Maybe that is OCD but if we're not going to get decent sounds, then we might as well fire up the MS-DOS emulator and go back to the silent text based sims.
A mod on Rivet's forum responded in regards to using Scotrail's announcements heard in reality. I had a feeling that Rivet weren't allowed to use them. Also just want to quickly clarify that there's a user on Rivet's forum with my username. That individual is NOT me. I have no idea who that person is.
It is a fine route. The issue I have with the audio is mainly that the running sound of the train cuts out when about to pass an oncoming train and then comes back on after it has passed. I drive with an external camera because the driver view is too restrictive and I’m on PS5. The train’s sounds may not be the best but it is bugs like sound cutting out or bad looping that I am most concerned about. I’m hoping this route doesn’t have that same issue.
correct me if I am wrong, but according to this, the route we are getting isnt the complete one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fife_Circle_Line#/media/File:Fife_Circle_line.png
It's the complete one the full fife circle will be in tsw with a small section to Dundee,Perth ect but only as far as Markinch with the possibility of rivet bringing in the Leven branch once completed in real life.
Technically yes but also no. The Fife Circle in itself is complete, the services go around the loop - Glenrothes & Kirkcaldy, making their way back to Waverley. On the Fife circle line though there are a couple of branches (more mainlines really) for other services, the one relevant to us is the line upto Dundee, modelled in TSW as far as Markinch. This is more of a bonus really as it will provide us the opportunity to run services headed to Dundee, but technically it is not a part of the Fife circle. It’s similar to Cathcart - the WCML is on that route but obviously it’s not relevant to the services we have - it’s the full run for the circle services. The coastal track via Kirkcaldy is a pretty important piece of track for a fair bit of intercity services, the FifeCircle line just ‘borrows’ it, for lack of a better word. The same as the Cross City line too, you can travel further than the in game route will let you, it’s just not relevant & we still have the full route. The Wiki you linked will probably explain it all better.
so the thing on the pic is the complete 52 miles? I mean, cos they havent released route map yet O anyway thanks for explanation
oh ok thx hmm looks like a pre-order for me then after getting Rosenheim Salzburg and it being awesome I am hungry for more new trackage
