Hi, I know this may be hard to implement with the signalling system. I would like to see a 'disruption mode' where either the driver can toggle it permanently on or off, or to random. This means they may have things like signal reversions to danger (of course there could be no SPAD end game for this, as the driver wouldn't necessarily be able to immediately stop), diversions onto the slow lines due to landslips, have to reverse to the previous station (change cabs ofc) due to the overhead lines coming down, held at stations due to a late running freight train or 'passengers causing a disturbance'. No fatalities in the simulation please, this would be traumatic for users and for drivers who may play the game and who may have experienced this. I feel this could all add another layer to the simulation, and require us to think on our feet. The scenarios are good, but they are limited and expected. Thanks!
Sounds pretty good actually, maybe adding a slider would be good too so you don't get a störung every 5 minutes.
Thanks! And yeah I agree - perhaps an intensity slider as well as length slider. Similar to in Xplane where we can toggle random failures, or preselect which ones we would like to occur.
I like that idea. They managed to do Dynamic Weather so they could be able to do this. I know its not the same, but having disruptions on some routes would be amazing. Maybe not London Commuter as that is still laggy and buggy and I don't think it's ever been looked at since launch. But maybe, as you said with the overhead lines, do it on the barking riverside - gospel oak line. It would be good to see the player service having to terminate early due OHW being damaged. It probs wouldn't help your train was blocked in an area due to disruption as you would have to end your scenario or free roam
If implemented correctly and as you say toggleable it would be a good feature to have. OHLE, signalling and points not playing ball would very much suit this section of ECML recently!
Interesting is perhaps the better word yes - would hopefully give a little insight into how drivers need to deal with such problems - calling signaller, waiting for Network Rail etc (in the most severe disruption I suppose). Certainly not fun being caught up in the disruption irl!
The only issue is that I don't think TSW would be able to cope with doing the things that the signalmen do in real life in times of disruption as it can only just handle running trains normally, even then it shows various cracks. It obviously depends on the nature and severity of the problem but it tends to involve a lot of waiting looking at the same scenery for unknown amounts of time, or as happened to me a few months ago now, sitting in the middle of nowhere surrounded by darkness waiting for some sort of communication from signaller, whether it be the signal clearing or giving us a call. Not my idea of fun at all, though certainly ands a bit of variety to the day!
That's an amazing idea - the element of surprise or disruption really is missing from TSW. It also could be small things to make the driving a bit different every time. E.g. platform is closed for construction or still occupied by a delayed train which could lead to being directed to another platform. Or just a delay of an AI train in front of my train, so a bit of wait time in front of a red signal. Or construction at a track with a temporary speed restriction. So many possibilities!
Yes, platform alterations would be cool! And maybe the need to use crossovers on bidirectional track. For example a landslip near a bridge requiring single line working. Like the saga with Plessey Viaduct.
Maybe, if too complicated to implement, make AI trains have random delays. Like, it shoudn't be too hard as the timetables are simulated( if I understand correctly this means that the trains know where and when to be), but maybe I'm wrong. Probably there would need to be edge cases like what if a trains wants to be delayed in an occupied signal block, but still, it would be quite immersive.
In game yes, but that breaks the immersion as believe it or not we can't just scroll through our phones in real life. Please tell me you are talking about in game, and if not where on earth do you work!
One thing I' surprised hasn't been attempted on some UK routes is degraded working for engineering work. Traditional signalled routes without reversible or bi-di working would need to implemet single line working (SLW), in some cases requiring the train to reverse through the crossover to the opposite line, picking up a pilotman and of course handsignalmen at either end. On a route like NTP or TVL would be quite different to the usual run of events. The sim would also have to recognise that if the flow of traffic is more in one direction the pilotman can "send" the first train, particularly if running right road, then travel on the next one so he is at the other end for a train in the other direction. As I know from my Control days, not unknown for the pilotman to get wrong ended, despite the best laid plans, if somethng runs very late or out of course.
sometimes, in-game, I get off the train and mess around the station or the train like uncoupling AI locos/wagons, sitting and having staring contest with passengers... IRL I work at a bookstore and I dont carry my phone to the shop's floor, I do un-work-ly things on one of our PCs here instead officially not
Ah fair enough then, how many of those staring contests have you won? I just keep mine powered off and in my bag, because obviously I don't want it going off as not only will I likely be distracted, but I will likely be 'pulled upstairs' for it too! I won't ask what those 'un-work-ly things are!
the AI usually evades my ungodly stare un-work-ly things, like writing this message to this forum, lol
I personally think something that DTG could have are platform changes for specific reasons, such as train occupying the platform because it is late or some sort of hazard for the train, but the game should still be able to register that he stopped at the station despite the incorrect platform
