Good day all, Long time forum reader and contributor to CC, TSC and Steam under my Trag handle. I am pleased to show off my latest project that I've been working on for the past month. My hometown Toronto Commuter on the Oakville Sub. This is a brand new timetable with all passenger services using the latest timetable (Nov. 2023) and prototypical freight services. So what's included: Passenger: Regional: 120 services (88 playable, 32 AI only). 6, 10 & 12 car formations. Westbound services require taking over from AI at Oakville and driving to terminus at Aldershot or West Harbour or driving to Aldershot/West Harbour where AI takes over to continue to Hamilton Centre and Niagara Falls. Opposite for eastbound services with AI taking over at Oakville on all services. AI only Union - Oakville services. AI only deadhead/equipment moves. Intercity: 10 domestic services (8 playable, 2 AI only). 2 international services (both playable). All playable services are taken over from AI and returned to AI at Aldershot/Oakville. Freight: Long haul: 42 Canadian National services (AI only). Majority enter at Burlington West junction (Halton Sub) and run to Bayview Junction (Dundas Sub) or vice versa. 6 Pacific services (AI only). Operate along Hamilton Sub. Local: 14 services (4 playable, 10 AI only). Majority of services start/stop in Aldershot Yard. Playable services operate between Oakville and Aldershot yards. No shunting. See below. Total: 194 services (102 playable, 92 AI only). Not included: Local switcher/shunting services. I've decided to leave that up to the player to use free roam to create their own services. I have left some Geeps idling in Oakville, Aldershot and Hamilton yards. Issues: Missing third track between Bayview Junction and West Harbour which creates a bottleneck. Had to alter timetable to make everything work. Aldershot PIS display boards are mixed up (showing info for wrong platform). 30 mph zone entering Oakville platform 3 from the west. Like other passenger routes you will only receive a green signal once boarding complete. So you will see nothing but yellow between stations. At Oakville station, passengers cue up on the south side of Track 1. In reality there is a fence dividing the island platform and track 1 hence no boarding which I have simulated (only doors on the north side open). At Aldershot station, passengers cue on Platform 1 which is disused in real life. What I'm still working on, experimenting with/ trying to wrap my head around (no guarantees): Regional: Adding an extra 400 hp to the MP36PH effectively making it a MP40PH. Not required but would help the acceleration on the 12 car services. Creating a debranded or generic consist. Adding more off world destinations (Niagara Falls services). Intercity: Creating a debranded or generic consist minus the Amfleets which are used on the international service. Adding more off world destinations (westbound services). Freight: Creating a debranded or generic road hauler locomotive as right now it's all foreign power (not required). Getting substitutions working with other NA locomotives and cars. (still tweaking) Plus anything else that catches my fancy as I'm still trying to figure out best practices. Also I keep finding the dispatcher likes creating some interesting routes that requires some GO VIA to correct. So there is no timeline to completion especially as there is no official way to release it. Will post further updates as they happen. Requirements: Canadian National Oakville Subdivision: Hamilton - Oakville Caltrain MP36PH-3C Baby Bullet Loco Boston - Providence Sand Patch Grade (might change to another US route) Out Now: Download - Toronto Commuter 2024 Timetable EP
Domestic Intercity is MBTA F40PH consist (4 and 5 car) which I planning to debrand or create a generic (ie. grey) scheme. International Intercity is MBTA F40PH with Amfleet (5 car). Again need to debrand the loco. Long Haul is CSX AC4400 x 2 with 30-100 cars (autoracks, intermodal, hoppers and general manifest). Trying to make it as real as possible within TSW limits.
May i guess, the F40PH with BTC-3's stand for VIA's F40PH-2D's with Budds/LRC's if used on domestic services, the F40PH stands for Amtrak's P42DC if used on international services (the Maple Leaf service from NY for example) and CSX locos stand for stuff like CN GEVO's, Dash 9's, etc...
Thanks. I thought about that but as I was already using Boston for domestic services. Trying to minimize the number of required DLC and allowing substitution to do it's thing.
Howdy all, It's been a week and I thought I would give a quick update. I think I've managed to add the extra horsepower to MP36PH effectively making it a MP40PH. Also figured out how to add more stations for the PIS. Finally I've started playing around with repainting the regional and inter city trains. Have only started the coaches and they are still very much WIP. They are creative liveries loosely based on the real thing. So again no time frame but here's a couple of pics.
It's a bit of a mess in the editor at the moment as I learn and play around with various components. It's not simply just the timetable as the only usable assets from OSD are the freight cars. Once I start cleaning everything up and figure out a way to share. I will definitely be looking some help beta testing it.
This is really nice. Since the passenger layer announced by DTG does not show any signs of materializing, it's nice to see someone doing it properly.
Another week and some more progress. I have finished the timetable and am working on cooking it so I can start testing it in game. If all goes well I will be looking for a couple people to beta test it for me. Continuing to work on the repaints. I have pretty much finished the regional trains, Work has started on the domestic intercity locomotive to go along with the coaches (both still WIP), Have also started on the other half of the long haul fleet (WIP), Still need to start the international intercity locomotive but that won't happen until I finish the domestic one. Have added some more issues to my first post. More to come as it happens.
Work continuing on the domestic intercity locomotive (WIP). A lot of fiddly little textures to find and replace, Work has also started on our southern neighbours (WIP), Still banging my head against the wall trying to pak the timetable. Hope soon.
Nice Project! If the Baby Bullet and Oakville are on sale, I might buy those addonns, since I am not really interested in cargo serices in NA, this might be quite fun. Really making the most out of this route!
Nice to see someone else working on a southern Ontario route. My Toronto subway route will be stuck firmly 70 years in the past, so you won't have to worry about any of my passengers wanting to transfer over to your route at Union! As an aside, I think the only reason you'ld have to de-brand the G.O. rolling stock is if you're planning on selling your plug-in commercially, so long as you're not presenting it as being endorsed by them. Or at least, I sincerely hope that's the case, as that's the approach I've been taking.
Thanks for the interest. Work has continued on the entire project. I have finished the textures for all of the above repaints to my satisfaction. The last week or so I have been trying to figure out the UE material properties which seems a lot more complex than my old MSFS reskinning days. Still a few tweaks but I am pretty happy with the result subject to change of course once I get it working in game instead of just the editor. Which brings me to the timetable. Still tweaking it as I keep finding the dispatcher routing some AI trains the wrong way. At the moment I am stuck at cooking the timetable using the unofficial method so that I can run it in game and have others beta test it. If I can't get it to work, then I'll have to wait till the official way is released. Thanks. It definitely changes the feeling of the route. Just wish the scenery was more prototypical. Anyways there are always options out there, Train Sim World - Caltrain MP36PH-3C Baby Bullet Loco Add-On DLC Steam CD Key | Buy cheap on Kinguin.net Your project looks really interesting. I've only been up down that section a few times. Only wish we actually had Union in the game so that we could drive the entire Lakeshore West line . I see you are not the only one celebrating the 70th anniversary, Toronto's First Subway - Complete Trains - HO scale - Rapido Trains Inc. As for the de-branded GO, I'm not looking at selling the project. It's more that repainting the textures is a real pain in the . So I decided to make an inspired by livery instead. The CN and Amtrak locos will be branded. I have created a proper GO de-branded livery on CC and a branded livery on TSC under my Trag handle (I would have used those if I could figure out how). Subject to me getting the timetable cooked and packed. My plan is to release V1.0 which will include the timetable using default trains and the updated station directory for the PIS. V2.0 will include my custom repaints.
Thanks for the link, I actually collected HO scale for a bit when I was younger! (For what it's worth, I can tell you for a fact they got almost all of the interior details wrong apart from the general colour scheme, alas.) Just had a look at those prices though. Man, am I glad I got myself a 3D printer! (edited to add a comma and apologize for going off on a tangent. I'll definitely be checking out your plugin whenever it comes out!)
Evening all, After a lot of bang my head against the wall I am happy to report that I have finally been able to cook and pak the timetable using default DTG assets (ie. no custom reskins yet). I've been able to find and correct some errors in game that were not visible in the play in editor. With that being said I am looking for a couple of interested individuals to help beta test and put the timetable thru it's paces. At the moment it will require TSW4 and the requirements in my first post. Those interested please DM me.
I was on CN on the Oakville today thinking about this route, I see all the passengers waiting out on the stations for your passenger services to start! Good luck with it and can’t wait to download it to pc one day.
Thanks again to CFTFC for letting me beta-test the timetable! Got the .pak files into my DLC folder without issue, and I've just finished service 1004 in the MP40PH-3C. Pleased to say, nothing to report thus far, besides a very enjoyable train drive!
For stations included with the route (in world), at the top of the Stop at Details, enter the Destination Display Name. For stations off the map (off world) in the Portal Details, click the plus sign next to Virtual Destinations. Add destination from Identifier drop down list. If you have train run broken into 2 services (ie a player service and then AI service to drive train out a portal), you'll need click Link Previous Destination on the second service under the Passenger Info System section. Otherwise it will show destinations up to the end of the first service. Finally if you are testing in the PIE, the PIS is blank where you spawn in but works at the other stations.
Never mind I got it to work, If you want the PIS boards to work you MUST have scheduled departure times on your load and unload nodes otherwise it won't populate.
If the P42 genesis becomes available in the future would that be possibly layered in for VIA rail and the Maple Leaf?
To make the new liveries I had to edit the texture files in the editor (not using the livery designer) and I am limited what I can change. Below is the texture for the bi level cars. As you can see only half of the side is included and it is mirrored to create the full side (and then mirrored again to create the opposite side). So I can not add a logo to brand the train here. I can place the logo where the Cal Train logo is but then that would look odd. So I left the logo off hence the debranded trains.
Absolutely delighted this project is taking place. this route has always got bad press but it is one of my favorite's.
Just ran my first of what will be many runs on this, and it was a pleasure to drive. Easily saw half a dozen trains on the way to Oakville, and couldn't help but think of all the unfulfilled promises from DTG over this route. Very well done, CFTFC, and whether through a third party or DTG themselves, I hope I get the chance to drive into Union Station at one end and Niagara Falls at the other someday. Many thanks.
