The Forge Simulation have released their first 'new' steam locomotive with lots of advanced features. She is oil fired, which means manual firing is quite complicated. Could even place one on show at Carnforth although that one is back over the water. What an engine! I spent my pennies on my first DFS engine marketed by Forge and what a beauty. Purely by chance the very one that loaded had the number 012 104-6 which happens to be the one I saw at Carnforth over 30 years ago albeit static. I have since seen a few in motion on trains in Germany including 01 1066 and 012 100. This DLC brings back memories and admiration. I repeat what an engine, the coaches aren't bad either.
Glad you like the new locomotive. Braking takes a bit getting used to as the green pressure indicator isn't used because of advanced scripting. Auto-fireman seems to do a good job, though I haven't taxed the engine yet on a more demanding run. She seems to run reasonably well on the few Koblenz-Mainz vv trips over the enhanced Linke Rheinstrecke I have let her run. Hopefully, good sales and player response will persuade this competent developer to use his experience and create the BR 44 Öel heavy freight 2-10-0, BR 41 Öel mixed traffic 2-8-2 in equal quality. And those peculiar insulated tank cars used to transport the Bunker C oil. With the already released BR 50 we have most of the late steam era (1970's) covered and one can run the preserved locomotives in any of today's excursion trains anywhere at will.
I went on a railtour quite a few years ago with 01 1066 - maybe it should have been named "Hastings" We had a few photostops and a run past Peter
I too bought this for TSC off Forge and am very impressed. Also sparked of memories of Steamtown, Carnforth. 012 104-6 did run when it first appeared at Steamtown, it belonged to Peter Beet (as did the SNCF Chaperon Pacific loco). However, it was too big (wide) and fuel thirsty to actually "do" anything and was limited to the yard so she was put on the number one road along with the French Pacific (not sure that ever ran at Carnforth) and only very rarely was pulled out in the sunshine (once in my time there). Unfortunately between them they succeeded in perfectly blocking of the view of the rest of the shed from the 15" gauge railway! On Dr Beet's death I think his son sold/donated both locos to the South German Railway Museum, possibly along with the tank engine 80-014 (that wasn't there when I was 85-97).
