Hello everyone there was a lot of thread on the forum for LIRR 2.0 and on a stream or video we can see LIRR commuter with a new branch to long beach and a new train the M9 lirr train
Sadly, me being a pessimistic person I don't see that this means anything. We always knew that the LIRR2 is a thing but it's held up by licensing problems. It may still be in limbo and the leak changes nothing. I think orignally it was supposed to come in February (could be wrong)? So the developers / ambassadors having early access to it makes sense - but it doesn't mean we will get it soon. However, slightly more exciting news is that https://steamdb.info/depot/2584120/ (LIRR2 on SteamDB) was updated 9 hours ago, so please can DTG prove me wrong and announce this route tomorrow, for a first week of April release? Please?
the leak was clipped from "Trainsimulatordriver" apparently. I kinda feel bad for him but DTG is prob gonna dump him, if this ever means something. Though it says "new" on the route card, plus answering 5931trob above, if it had licensing issues, why would it be developed so far that it also already got a great route artwork? except thats from the old LIRR, not sure though.
Oh come on DTG don't dump him. Mistakes like this often happen it's just a mistake... I wouldn't consider it anything too serious... At least he didn't show off the route
Nah they won't dump Trainsimulatordriver, it was a mistake and I mean LIRR was already leaked ages ago so i'm sure it will be fine. Dadrail leaked TSW 3 and he was ok.
I hope they update the distant scenery on the older parts of the route and include the Grand Central as well. This with working safety systems, the TOD4 and a new timetable could make it the best US passenger route.
Yeah, you can clearly see the M9 covered by the new banner, plus another one on the track below covered by the elevated section. For reference
Timelapse of the Long Beach branch for anyone wondering what it's like: Of course, the key question is if the signalling will be accurate...
What is wrong with the M9? At least now the LIRR will have all the Electric Trains that run on the MTA LIRR
it doesn’t offer anything the M3 & M7 already deliver, TSW also isn’t running short of EMU experiences. A DM30AC was my hope.
Thankfully they skipped a number (although the LIRR did have alleged plans for an M5, a single car unit).
Agree wholeheartedly. Although I'd be pleased to see a revamp and additional services for LIRR, the M9 is not very exciting. My TSW collection is overflowing with emus. The DM30 is kind of showing its age though, soon to be replaced. Still, it would be a change from the ubiquitous M3 and M7, especially since an M8 might also appear at some point on the NH.
Honestly it’s not only that, it’s the fact that LIRR should have been better when it released, then they borked it big time moving it between the various TSW versions. I’d already be hesitant to fund it again. I get people really want LIRR back in a state where it’s playable, but I think the way the US gets starved of content is also feeding the desire for it, and DTG are more than happy to oblige a resell. I’d be more receptive to this if the M9 was a loco add-on with an extension & new timetable - alongside a free update that resolves what DTG broke with the route & stock in the first place. No doubt someone will be along to say that DTG can’t work for free, but they got my money for LIRR already, then they repeatedly went into the content and broke it.
LIRR was always a route with a lot of promise. I quite liked driving it for a while back in TSW2020 when there weren’t the number of routes we have today but it obviously needed to be busier with lots more going on and then it got broken and never really fixed. No diesel action on the new one but hopefully it will be a lot better than it was and maybe get closer to the promise it showed. Of course we will have to see it to believe it because all was not rosy when NYT came along as a partially extended and reworked NEC:NY from TSW2020. I have no idea what DTG will do with the pricing of this rework as it does have a lot in it that many have paid for before.
I am also concerned how they're gonna price this since this isn't gonna be a free update for existing LIRR owners. Also will they delist the old LIRR route? Only time will tell I guess, hopefully it won't be much longer
Could be the U.S loco DLC on the roadmap but I highly doubt it.. Sorry to ask this but does this mean the actual route doesn’t get any extension’s except for long branch? (Sorry, I don’t own LIRR so I have very little knowledge)
Considering that this route is the better part of 4 years old, and if DTG have invested a significant amount of time in a better, fuller timetable, more new trains, more trackage and improved infrastructure, I would expect to pay the equivalent of a new route price, like it or not. Can't expect a substantial upgrade for peanuts.
I’ve got mixed feelings about the arrival of the M9, similar-ish sounds to the 710 and very similar build to the M7, not too unique. I’ll reserve more judgment to whenever we get the official announcement though
LIRR is so old, and built using such old techniques, that I think it would be easier for DTG to start over from scratch rather than try to update the old version.
The old version will disappear, just as the SEHS and the WSR disappeared. And NEC:NY? They removed it, as well as SW1000R Amtrak. I would pay anything to have that Amtrak switcher on current routes! DTG, give us that SW1000R back!
Considering the fact that NYT made maximum use of assets from both LIRR and NEC, I would be quite surprised if DTG didn't reuse everything they possibly could for LIRR2. SEHS also reused all of its own assets when it was extended, although some of these were significantly improved. For price DTG have painted themselves into a corner. They seem to intend to charge everybody for the new route, or else I imagine it would have been rolled into a new release like SEHS was in TSW3. While someone who bought the route years ago might be okay with that, I imagine someone who buys LIRR tomorrow, only to find a new version coming soon that also must be bought, could be disappointed. DTG might have prevented this by dropping LIRR to very low bargain prices, but they never did, even though the route is routinely panned and is a poor example of the TSW franchise. Still, I wonder how many active players even own LIRR anyway. Maybe DTG will give them the upgrade for free after all? Will I do a little gambling and buy LIRR in hopes of getting that free upgrade? I think rather not.
If the route is to Long Beach, I think it would make sense to also add in the Far Rockaway Branch, and West Hempstead Branch. I am quite surprised the route appears to not be going past Hicksville, which is what many people hoped for, extend it east to Ronkonkoma. Well, the good thing is we have the M9 to look forward to. I also look forward to seeing how the M3 and M7 were updated as well as the signalling system. I think there is still hope for the DM30 and C3 Bilevels to appear since a very small part of the Babylon branch is used to reach Long Beach
With this leak, let's see what the April roadmap brings regarding the speculated US route that we have been waiting for
Really hope this means the end of licensing hell is coming soon for LIRR2. Very excited for a new branch to Long Beach and the M9. I'd take that over an extension to Ronkonkoma anyday. Would have been nice to have Far Rockaway and West Hempstead branches too as mentioned but let's see what actually turns up. They HAVE to nail the timetable this time- it can't be another ghost town imo.
In my opinion this all over keeping dlcs unannounced until 1 week before release is another reaction of dtg of their failed attempt to plan a dlc and deliver in a polished state. Its their green card for going with the minimum and come up with excuses afterwards (example 1116 layer vorarlberg).
Too bad, I wanted a NHL route with M2/4/6 or the M8. If the signals are finally working and not glitching every two minutes with speed drops from hell, then I might be interested.
I haven't been playing too much TSW for the past year, but an LIRR remaster similar to what we got with SEHS...? Now that would hook me right back in. The route itself has always had AMAZING gameplay potential given that it's a commuter railroad with LOADS of traffic + branch lines. Think of the Brighton Mainline or Riesa - Dresden, but an American version of that. I've always dreamt of doing a nighttime run westbound and seeing the Manhattan and Long Island City skyline appearing while going over Herald Interlocking. How cool would that be? If the route is given a scenery makeover + a solid timetable, then folks I think we'll have ourselves a good hit. For the love of God, DTG, this is the one American route you shouldn't fumble.
I just hope the third track is added between Hicksville and Floral Park. I stopped playing the original LIRR route years ago after they opened the third track. Feels weird playing knowing the route has been updated drastically in real life.
Hopefully there will be some sort of discount for those of us who bought LIRR originally. I didn’t think it was too bad personally, actually better than Harlem. Just the train sounds seemed a bit artificial and synthesised to me.
Good news if its true ,the route is long overdue for updates, especially a better timetable, would be great if they did an West summer set update ,don't see it being free for the owners of the original route, don't think iam going to pay thirty six euros for an update, even if it has an extension and a new dmu
Why is Fife blurred out in the image too? Its release date is already known, not like it is a secret.
Kind of good and bad news. I was really hoping for the extension of the mail line to Ronkonkoma but I will take the update to the traffic and a additional branch to Long Beach. Would have loved to drive a DM30AC down the main line. I am also assuming the license issue was with Kawasaki with the M9's.
