Oh dear. Whipping yourselves up into a frenzy now won't change anything. Save your energy, wait to see what lands and then launch forth with the inevitable righteous indignation then. Unfortunately, it happens all the time in software. Nothing is ever finished, so someone has to draw an arbitrary line as to when it should be released. I'm not saying that it's right but it's how it is.
I'll definitely be stocking up on popcorn for the feedback thread once the console versions land looking and sounding exactly the same as the preview did.
Now I cancelled, but if Revit has made significant changes to the route prior to release, then they should, in my opinion, get the streamers a key on Monday so they can showcase the finished product to prove they did do something.
Yes, we definitely need to see an updated stream with the release build before we hit the buy button. However, I fear that any improvement will be marginal with only 3 days left. I will likely wait for the forum feedback before committing to purchase. I'm a bit soured on the whole FCL thing at this point. Unbelievably, I'm even considering Goblin just to get something new.
As a courtesy to customers I would suggest they also extend the preorder discount beyond the release date as it is simply not realistic to expect people to now order on blind faith. In fact as a gesture of goodwill maybe they should drop the price by £5 or £10 to reflect the fact this route is not up to the quality of other £30 DLC.
I could be wrong but I believe that DTG compile the builds for the platforms and it is quite conceivable that a mix up has happened with which build was meant to be sent to the various platforms for release and an incorrect release version was shown on stream when another was meant for release. That can be fixed for PC rather quickly and extra things can be added, changed, tested and resubmitted before release but it takes longer for consoles. It really shouldn’t matter to the customer who it was that messed up but the extra things added like the railtours are purely down to feedback and those would have been in the release on all platforms if nobody had complained. It’s a bit of a mess and everybody can take their own time looking at what transpires now and in the near future to see if they want the route or not. From what I see from the route now and the timetable, I won’t even consider buying it until the 158 is released because then it will be more complete. I would never have expected this to be the standard of Goblin but I do expect better and I’m hoping in time it will be.
DTG As a 57 year old Scot, I have to say that the clichéd, racist and demeaming bagpipe nonsense that plays in the background is very offensive. [EDIT - Jan - Highly Insensitive] Can we please get rid of this clichéd, racist and offensive idiocy towards Scots and Scotland in your game? Such blatant clichéd racism is not acceptable in the 21st century. As for Edinburgh International Airport, what a hopeless look. One of the busiest international airports in the UK bereft of air traffic and looking like a desert. The deserted look also applies to Edinburgh Waverley and it's lack of rail traffic and passengers walking aound. The ballast used on this route is also completely wrong. Ballast on this, and most other Scottish routes, is a distinctive red ballast, not the dark brown nonsense used in this DLC. Ballast used on most Scotrail routes comes from the Cloburn Quarry Company, Lanarkshire, Scotland. https://www.cloburn.co.uk/commercial/railway-track-ballast/
That would be the ultimate insult to Scottish culture. Actually I've long advocated a complete ban on the color pink from any connection to rail simming except for the occasional begonia on station platforms. ( just to please the wife who is an avid gardener ).
That's assuming that the " correct " release build is actually substantially better than the stream build. And I doubt anything meaningful can be added in the next 72 hours and delivered to Sony, Microsoft and Steam/ Epic. Actually, I was looking forward to this route but now I'm so turned off by the whole debacle I'm not sure I'll ever buy it short of a fire sale at Chritmas/ New Years. I'm actually thinking of popping for Goblin even though I swore I wouldn't. The forum feedback is really good, notwithstanding the length and boring loco.
Rivet have a history of telling lies to their ‘customers’. Remember the “we are going to get real sounds for the 385”.
Calling Bagpipes racist is a bit of over the top. They are a national Scottish treasure, and Scotland is famous for it.
I'm surprised they don't have all the passengers wearing kilts and singing Flower of Scotland! The Devs do seem to like clichéd stereotypes. The pizza boxes in northern Italy did it for me. Someone tell them pizza is a southern dish... pasta would have also been a stereotype, but it would have made some sense. I just hope they don't do any historic German routes set in the 1930s or early 1940s.... We would probably get scenarios with Herr Flick and a gay German tank commander.
what about for the first dutch route we are planting tulips across the whole train and everywhere on the tracks and platforms?
And all the passengers will be tucking into chips covered in mayonnaise! Or maybe they'll have a cross border route into Germany with a scenario where you bring your bicycles back by train (WW2 / Dutch football joke).
As an Italian, I've to tell you that it didn't bother me at all. It looked really inviting, LOL! Maybe I would have a Margherita. But, since Tirano is in northern Italy, Speck is fine!
How bizzare. I assume you are easily offended, and don't like bagpipes which is why you say they are clichéd and demeaning and racist. If they put Irn Bru bottles or little pretend haggis animals running around would you say that's racist too? Many do like them, and a piper is a pretty much permanent feature on the overbridge at Waverley. It's a game. I'm genuinly going to a gig tonight with a piper in the lineup. I shall tell the Peatbog Faeries to stop stereotyping their countrymen.
Same here, it's actually getting tempting, even though not normally a fan of stop/start EMU routes. Assuming Fife Circle stays off the menu then there's nothing else in the immediate offing anyway. Will probably wait until the middle of next week on the offchance Rivet do pull a rabbit out of the hat. However I fear their efforts along with DTG are more focused on damage control and suckering the unwary into buying it. The TSW Facebook page pops up on my feed and they are spamming it like billy-ho on there along with enticing pictures of the 170 on the Forth Bridge. People are going "ooo" and "aahh", at which point I have diplomatically suggest they visit the forum to get the real gen on the likely state of the route.
It's not offensive, who are you to decide what we should be offended by? What you mean is YOU find it offensive, you don't decide for anyone else. I take it you walk around Edinburgh with fingers in your ears to avoid being "offended" by bagpipes? Greetings from a 38 year old Scot.
Please do advise me as to exactly where I have stated I speak for all Scots. You obviously have not read the post properly. In the first sentence I say, "I have to say...". In no part of of my post do I claim to speak for all Scots. Your interpretation of my post is therefore incorrect and your accusation baseless and false.
In fairness a piper often stands at the corner of Waverley Bridge so entirely possible to be that loud on the platforms……although maybe not if there were other trains & an accurate amount of people about….
What a nonsensical statement. You really are clutching at straws here. As I said earlier, your interpretation of my post is incorrect and your accusation baseless and false.
Maybe the bagpipe situation needs to be taken to a separate thread? We don't really want to detract from the other key issues the route has or worse get the thread locked.
On the flipside, I have a feeling that if I made a bowl of popcorn for the mea culpas in the event that it turns out the wrong build was indeed streamed, the release build is in release shape, and all the raving was in fact pointless, I would still end the day with a full bowl of popcorn.
Oh boy! If the Tuesday release turns out to be really good with all the scenic bells and whistles, ships and airplanes and a boosted timetable, I'll eat a goblin. Make that two goblins ( they look kinda small ). ( I was going to promise to eat some haggis but the authentic version is actually illegal in the US. Some of the ingredients are deemed unfit for human consumption. You can get a fake version if you can " stomach " it.).
Well, I think it was the correct build... Rivet employees at work even on weekend... That's how life works! You do something... And then you pay the consequences!
Literally the very first thing I heard when I set foot on Edinburgh station (and therefore Scotland) for the first time was bagpipes. You guys should be proud of leaving such a strong first impression. Being Welsh, we too are often the punchline of jokes and stereotypes, but I wouldn't call the people who make them racist, just [EDIT - Jan - Language]
I was looking forward to it too and just need to wait now because I’m not going to be a day one buyer after all this. It is definitely looking more like a sale purchase. I was a day one buyer though for Goblin and thoroughly enjoying it despite stop-start commuter runs not being my usual thing to play. It’s the setting of it (the real route) and how well it is done that makes it. Each session I play a there and back in the excellent 710 and a freight run one way in the Class 66. That takes about an hour and three quarters in total and I’m kept busy with the train’s controls throughout whilst also looking at the great scenery.. Fife Circle will be a more relaxed affair and although I wasn’t expecting the scenery to be as good as the best routes in TSW, I was expecting more than I’ve seen so far, except the bridge which looks awesome. The two routes are different kettles of fish and one has been cooked and seasoned well while the other is still in the freezer for me for the foreseeable future. I would definitely suggest getting Goblin while you wait this one out.
Hey everyone, the conversation in here is steering dangerously close to derailment and the offensive stereotypes are not helping. It's the weekend, let's all relax and not get into senseless arguments. All the best, Jan
Despite my pre release stance I folded and bought it earlier and have to say, once you get through the Training Centre bit and on to the route itself it's actually very good. Will post more on my thoughts in the feedback forum once I've done a few more runs.
Wow what for a bizar discussion is going on here.... Its a game not the end of your'e live when its different than expected.... Its right that Rivet has make a bad choice to bring this to release but what i have seen here from some people it looks like the end is near.... Bizar off topic also.
Some of the negativity has been a bit...excessive to say the least, I'll agree on that. However the criticism is NOT unwarranted. The Class 170 is a highly anticipated DMU and the Fife Circle is quite clearly a highly anticipated route. People should rightfully say 'No, this isn't right' if something is obviously wrong. It stings even more if you're local to this route or love the 170.
No that was not my point but racism thing is more why im pointing Out this comment.... Its not fair to pull this card and has nothing to do with the discussion.... This is so disrespect full to everyone here... That was why im written my reaction. Its absolutely correct that Rivet has make a big mistake for sure let me be clear! But please have respect to everyone here please. Every time this kind of threats are one or two they go nuts
I had just gone back to the page before and...oh dear. That is...something. My mistake for not bothering to understand the context and jumping straight to the newest message on the board!
