POB is discounted on PSN, and I really really really want to buy and play it, but my pennies jar is not quite full enough to afford it even with the 20% discount. Can you all offer me:

    1. The main reason you enjoy POB and what persuaded you to fork out three thousand pennies (or your local equivalent) for it
    2. Suggestions for what I should sacrifice in my daily life to top up the pennies jar so the bank manager won't seize all my assets so I can buy it

This is a semi-light-hearted post, I'm not destitute or down to my last can of beans or anything so don't worry, but it is still somewhat above my self-imposed limit of what I will pay for DLC

Also I stole your thread title OldVern, hope you dont mind

It is the most detailed route you will ever drive, the sounds are great, Preston and Blackpool have been modelled to perfection, the only thing is I still do not understand why they went to Ormskirk rather than Manchester Victoria. But aside from that it is 100% worth it.

    1. Don't waste money on toilet paper. Use newspaper, junk mail, bills and more!
There is a great deal of satisfaction that comes from wiping your butt on a credit card mailing or an electricity bill. And it helps the environment as well as your pocket!

    2. Turn your old wine into vinegar.
If you've got some old wine laying around that isn't drinkable, you can turn it into vinegar. Just pour it into a container, preferably a barrel, and let it age. Voila, fine vinegar!

    3. Top-up your condiments with packets from fast-food restaurants.
You always get a bunch of extra ketchups, mustards, mayos and other condiments when you eat at a fast-food joint. Don't throw them away. Open them up and pour them into your bottled condiments at home. You'll be surprised how much longer your bottle of ketchup will last.

    4. Double your toilet paper by separating it.

Buy 2-ply paper and pull it apart to make 1-ply. You can get four rolls out of one double-roll.

    5. Limit toilet paper usage to two sheets per wipe.
Put a sign above the toilet at home reminding people exactly how much to use each time.

    6. Cut your own hair.
It's not difficult. Also cut the hair of your children and the rest of your family. You'll save a small fortune.

    7. Use the free envelopes you get with bills and junk mail.
Cover the company's address with a label, put on your own stamp and use it for whatever you want.

    8. Get free lemonade whenever you eat out.
Order a glass of water with extra lemons, pour in some sweetener from the beverage holder and hey presto, lemonade for free!)

    9. Free umbrellas are always available.
Just pop along to your local library and tell them you lost one. They usually have a stash in the lost and found section — say yours is black and small and they'll almost always have one. Score! It also works for sunglasses.

    10. Buy something for $1. Sell it for $2. Repeat.
    Pretty smart, huh!

    11. Plant fake flowers in your garden.
They last for years, require no maintenance and are in full bloom in winter.

    12. Use old toilets as flower planters.
They look bold and attractive and are usually available for free.

    13. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
There's no shame in going through the neighbors' trash once it has been placed outside for collection. It's public domain, and you can pick up some great things that other people just don't want or need any more.

    14. Free food from the grocery stores.
They throw away perfectly good food every night. You can eat like a king for free on the bags of food they throw away at the end of the day.

    15. Take a "vacation" at Christmas to save money on gifts.
Just let everyone know you're going away for the holidays and will exchange gifts when you return. Then lay low, buy all of your presents in the after-Christmas sales for way less money and have a very happy New Year!

    17. Keep one cup from every fast-food restaurant you visit.
Whenever you go back, just take the cup in with you and refill it at the fountain. You'll never have to pay for a drink again!

    18. Cover your floors with carpet samples.
You can pick them up very cheap, and sometimes free, from most carpet and hardware stores. Just arrange them in squares and glue them down. Great for a basement, playroom or even a hobby room. Also works with wallpaper samples.

    19. Spill your drink at a bar or restaurant.
Wait until your beer is around one-third full, then get in the way of a member of the wait staff and make sure they "make" you spill your drink. They'll usually offer to get you a free replacement, and it will be FULL!

    20. Donate your clothes then buy them back.
The local charity will clean them for you, and you can just pop back in a week, buy the ones you want for a few bucks. It's cheaper than a dry cleaner.

    21. Rob a bank. Then turn the money in to the police and cash the finder compensation.

    22. Power down your laptop, PC, smartphone and stop posting rubbish threads on a stupid internet forum.

(Yeah, most of these suggestions I stole from a website that stole it from another website that, on the other hand ...)

Hope this helps and Happy Easter!

Ah yes, and BPO is well worth the money, even at full price.

And even better if you have NTP, the heavy freight pack and the Class 20 and 31 from TVL to layer in.

If you can’t afford something, you can’t buy it. Plain and simple.
I don’t know you personally or what you have of value to sell. Are you a physical media collector? Blu rays, games etc. I always tend to sell my used games on there for some extra cash.
If not, I’m sure if you put your thinking cap on you’ll find something else to sell on there.

I agree, BPO is without a doubt one of the best looking routes on the game, and the attention to detail sets it apart from other routes. The first time I’ve seen it discounted.
I’m still waiting for the Acela to be discounted. I want a reason to level up the Boston route to level 20 for the trophy on PSN.

That's great to see it discounted for the PS. This should be shown to all those saying that games on PC are cheaper than on consoles... it has never been discounted for PC...

I was fascinated by the route at release, but I didn’t really have a lot of time to play TSW back then so I told myself I’d get it later - obviously waiting until it got discounted so my months of waiting could at least save me a few bucks :)

The moment the discount popped up in the PS store a few days ago, I got it. And I'm sooooo impressed. The scenery, the atmosphere, the service variety - all extraordinarily good. It feels like the quality of Niddertalbahn on a much much larger scale with a lot more replay-ability. Maybe you've also seen the light-hearted post I made about the collectibles I've really grown to love.

To save money for the purchase, I suggest only rising in second/standard class instead of first class once you’re on the route. That’ll save you a few quid for sure! ;)

Aha, spending money to save money! A good suggestion but I'd probably have to fare dodge on the bus down to the station for the initial outlay

Perhaps I shouldn't have spoiler'd the spoiler, but for those that didn't see it, particularly for Jay1986 and Pipe (though I have a suggestion the latter possibly did see it, don't know what makes me think that, ha), it reads:
    upload_2024-3-29_13-34-45.png
But I thank you both for your concern, it is appreciated nonetheless!

25262 Thanks, perhaps they would have to model more of the WCML? I'm unsure where the line to Manchester splits, I assume it would go through Bolton and possibly other towns?

OldVern Ah yes, I'd forgotten about the layering. I do have TVL and NTP as well as all the other classic era add-ons, does anything from Heavy/Diesel Legends appear? Sorry again for stealing your thread title, ha

    jack#9468 Thanks, got those too!

Jay1986 I am indeed a collector of physical discs (games rather than BD), though I never sell anything purely on principal, unless I have something for an old(er) console that has a new release on current formats. Since I have a lot of CEs my entire collection is an additional investment for my retirement fund, though hopefully it will never be needed! And similarly, I'm waiting for Scotsman to be reduced as I wasn't able to get the deluxe version of TSW4 on disc (it doesn't exist), though I did get some very nice art cards of the featured locos plus TGV

jstange Have patience, your time willl come!

I'm still undecided even with all the positive comments, but happy to hear more of course. I can't really explain why, but paying over £15 for any DLC really disagrees with me; for reference while I own a huge chunk of past DLC (all for TSW1/2 andabout 90% for TSW3), every single piece was bought while on sale, and nothing for more than £15. Entirely personal choice of course

Thanks again all for replying to my silly thread! Disappointed noone had any words for the awesome picture of Pob though...

They would not have to model much more than they have of the west coast

Quite frankly it is the best route in the game with a fair few things to do and as has already been said above the layers really add a lot to the route, on top of what is included with the route. You would actually have a lot of trouble to find major issues with the route!

Just do the food shop one week instead of the Mrs and you'll have enough to buy it twice! ;):D

In seriousness though this is genuinely worth £30 so anything less than than is a real bargin.

    Just look at these screenshots:

If you only ever buy one DLC above £15, make it BPO. It is without a doubt the best available. I certainly don't regret paying full price for it.

BPO is a brilliant route, I picked it up at launch and definitely no regrets with it. One of very few routes it’s been safe to be exited for and not be wrecked by bugs/issues on full release.

managed to get one of my favourite pics to this day on it also.

    upload_2024-3-31_14-53-13.jpeg

    (Xbox Series X)

pretty sure I have all the layers, makes it pretty busy and plenty of variety similar to that of Dresden Riesa, layers of course coming from, NTP/TVL which has always been great routes, (Tees valley also my most local route to this day)

here’s hoping for some 142 timetable for Tees Valley.

    few tips to save;

-forget alcohol and smoking if you do.
-Put in some overtime at work if you do
-live of pot noodles (preferably the green ones) and tap water (U.K. only recommendation !, don’t drink tap water in countries what don’t have drinkable tap water or you will live in the bathroom for a few days and get prohibited from swimming pools, I learned that in Spain over 15 years ago.)

but in serious as long as you ain’t producing debt you are making cash and therefore will be able to pick it up sooner or later should you wish.
