Hey, wait a minute... 380 + GCC remake (New UK route). And if the new UK locomotive, hopefully Matt's statement is correct: "having more or less the complete Scotrail Fleet", won't it be an HST Inter7City?
Well, if the New UK Route is the Ayrshire Coast Line and if its quality can reach the same level of the Goblin, it would be a wonderful and excellent product, and it would buy on the first day.
Lots of scenario opertunities here! Will be interesting to see how they do saltcoats if this route is coming to TSW!
DTG have sounds for the Class 350 which they mentioned as using for the AC sounds on the Class 700. There's no reason why they can't apply those to a Class 380 too, after all they are practically identical under the bodyshell. Cathcart Circle is an old route now so I still don't believe they'll make it as a loco DLC for that, at least without a substantial route overhaul first. It could be part of the new UK route from the latest roadmap, but it seems too soon for DTG to be giving out hints, plus there's already been a lot of Scotrail content coming in recently. The UK loco still stands a good chance of being a Class 91 in my opinion. It's a difficult one, seemingly a bit of a random choice but I've also never known DTG to give false leads...
I hope DTG will eventually remember that there are other operators in the UK other than Scotrail (UK's answer to DB where all the trains are red), there are so many interesting and attractive liveries waiting in England and Wales beyond blue with white spots. Though Scotland is ideal for DTG's dynamic weather where it rains every day....
If they do the Ayrshire route then they should also include the Inverclyde lines just for a bit more variety.
That would be nice but I have a feeling it would be too long sadly. Glasgow Central to Ayr= 39 Miles Kilwinning to Ardrossan Harbour= 5 Miles Ardrossan South Beach to Largs= 11 Miles FULL AYSHIRE COAST LINE TOTAL= 55 Miles Paisley Gilmour Street to Wemyss Bay= 23 Miles Port Glasgow to Gourock= 5 Miles FULL INVERCLYDE TOTAL= 28 Miles Ayshire & Inverclyde Route Length Total= 83 Miles A tad long but doable for DTG if they put in the effort. It would be really cool if it happened cause it would be like having a proper network in the game!
A bit gutted it's a 380, however I'm happy to see they've included both the 3 and 4 car variants as opposed to skipping one variant as was the case with the 700. I'm interested to see where it will end up.
Cathcart Circle doesn't appear to be getting any visual upgrades either.. just a new timetable to fit the 380. Oh well, there's nothing we can do about it.. annoyingly/disappointingly.
If they were giving us a new train, they could have at least put the effort in to update the route as well surely. Not exactly giving much incentive to purchase it.
Upgrades to route when loco addons are releasing isn’t really a thing, the same with HRR when the 101 released.
My view exactly, I know it doesn't usually happen but still, it definitely would have given a bit more to the already very boring add-on... This will most likely be the first piece of UK content I won't buy.. the new Cargo Line add-on is looking good though! And I'm interested to see what the JT route will be - was a bit of an odd thing to include in the roadmap considering there was barely any info on it though...
Rivet did it with IOW 2022, the route got a few upgrades. Anyway, Cathcart isn't exactly the sort of thing I've been wanting, so just it having a new loco isn't really incentivising me to purchase it.
Great, another modern EMU which is just what we all wanted (well some will have wanted it of course). I think there is too much focus now on both Scotland and London/SouthEast, I suppose however if we did get it with the Ayrshire route then it will be a bit more interesting than another stop-start London route. With a bit of luck someone will eventually make a 56, 60 and 91...
Yeah.. we so desperately need another EMU! We've got so many freight locos and electric locos already in the game!! Haha.. it'll take one hell of a lot of luck there, we've gone through every TSW and never even gotten close to getting a new UK freight loco. That says something, doesn't it?
The Class 91 was a logical choice and an iconic train to make - the Class 380 doesn't really have this association so much. It would have been better saved for a new route such as the Ayrshire Coast or Inverclyde Lines, and unless Cathcart Circle gets an update, I don't really see the need in making a loco DLC for a pre-TSW3 route with obsolete lighting and weather.
I suspect EMU’s are easiest of all to do in Simugraph, probably a lot of copy and paste goes on, compared to setting up a loco or something like the 86 or 87 with a tap changer. Low hanging fruit comes to mind.
This one in particular I could imagine would have been pretty easy.. and a LOT of copy and paste! Just grab a 385, change the fronts a bit and do some interior changes and bam! 380! Okay, I know that won't be the case entirely.. but that's how I see it personally. I meant no offence to anyone just to clear that up.
Happy enough with the 380 but had hoped it would come with Cathcart being upgraded too. Least central should be busy and hopefully can layer in at Waverley and WS too……. The 91 will definitely come, but I do think it’s better for that to come with its own route, meaning can use it on the existing ECML & either KX to Peterborough or Doncaster to Leeds/York.
Shock. Matt’s highly desirable comment was as on the nose as predicted. He said that for a very specific reason. Some people really thought we weren’t getting a Desiro after that.
The word desirable means something wanted. At the time it was said, there was nothing to indicate it referred to 'Desiro'. How many actually wanted a Class 380 for a pre-TSW3 route that isn't receiving any updates?
There was. It was a wink wink comment. It didn’t even make grammatical sense for Matt to say it. He said it because it was a play on words to hint at a Desiro. Which is exactly what we got.
It could have meant anything at the time it was said. No one was even going on about the 380, or a Desiro at all, until it was teased even with that comment.
It meant that we were getting a Desiro. Matt didn’t say it was highly requested or popular. He said it was highly desirable. Nobody talks like that because it doesn’t even make grammatical sense. He said it because he was hinting at another Desiro. You can keep going around and around about this. But it doesn’t change that Matt was giving us a wink wink hint over what we were getting and it proved 100% correct. We got a Desiro. Anyone who has followed DTG for a length of time would have seen these wordplays before. They love leaving these hints and tips for people to pick up.
I'm not going against everything you said but I don't get what you mean by it not making grammatical sense.. since when does saying something is "highly desirable" not make sense grammatically?? Anyway - we now know that Matt did tease it, and the 380 is happening.
Did it? I didn’t see any reason to believe so at the time it was said. But, no point if all you're going to do is argue. Have a good day.
To answer the question at the start of the thread, a bloody disappointment. It is picking up the fruit that's already fallen on the lawn. Highly desirable my rear passage.
I think better yet get a Doncaster to York Extension then an entirely seperate London - Peterborough with the Hertford North branch
I assume they'll update ECML as they did with SEHS. In the next TSW. I also believe in an extension to York, with the addition of a new rolling stock (91? Fingers crossed!).
