With yet another EMU in the form of a 380 and being told it was heavily requested. Am I the only one getting fed up at every DTG UK route being another EMU then a new train announced and another EMU? Cathcurt Circleis is not a bad route but after a few times round the circle out to Newton and Neilson is a bit dull. Layering will be good but is still Scotrail centric so not the most useable elsewhere either. We get told we get listened too, but are we? Loads of requests for the Class 91 and not just a vocal few? Instead we get an EMU for the magic roundabout and I do hope Cathcurt Circle will be brought up to TSW4/5 standards too. Not one mainline electric and more flavours of a 66 than Haribo. I do hope JT bring some much needed variety!!
No you’re not the only one. I mean I quite like EMU’s but we have enough of the modern ones in game. It’s time DTG broadened their horizons.
I always prefer a mix of content over a focus but they're is nothing wrong with bringing the 380, the fact the power mode is similar to recent releases isn’t a negative point of it. sure DTG could be more open to doing different traction types, but that’s not a reason to dislike the 380.
I don't mind the 380, it is a variety thing as you said we do need another freight loco such as 56, 60, 68 or 70 and a mainline electric for ECML. Cathcurt will be better for having 314 and 380 on it though. A 350 for the WCML and route to go with it would have been awesome.
I disagree with the op. Whilst I understand that EMU's are not for everyone, they are a huge part of railways around the world. I do get the desire to have other trains besides EMU's but that doesn't mean that DTG shouldn't make them
Its not about not having EMUs the thread never stated that, its about variety as the past few releases from DTG have been EMUs including EMU loco DLC less the flying Scotsman. 801, 710, 700, 484, 483, 465, 395, 387, 385, 380, 377 (X2), 375, 323 (X2), 314 and 313 for a total of 16. Compared to six DMUs, 11 diesels and zero mainline electric. Yet only 38% (2022) of the UK network is currently electrified.
I'm wondering if the 380 will add more AI traffic out of Glasgow Central? Or will it just sub in on the Cathcart Lines?
At some point there's going to be a thread called 'Enough is Enough - Enough is Enough Edition' complaining about the amount of Enough is Enough threads. Perhaps they should be merged into one super-thread called the 'Train Sim World Whining and Crying Thread While Nothing Changes Anyway' That said, variety is the spice of life, and while I don't think modern EMUs are an inherently bad thing, having almost only modern EMUs very quickly got very boring. Even if they wanted to stick with easy to drive electrics, that still leaves us with the Class 90, 91, 92, and the new Stadler locomotives built/being built for DRS, ROG and GBRF, among others. We haven't got any British tap changing electrics, so there's a prime opportunity for the Class 73 for SEHS, as GBRF uses them for most RHTT services (and because some of them are in Southern and BR liveries they wouldn't need licensing), and the obvious WCML locomotives. Please, just give us something a bit different.
As I have said there is nothing particularly wrong with a 380, but out of all the types of missing traction on routes how the bloody hell has it stood out to be the one that gets chosen to be in a 'loco' dlc. Loco dlcs are a rarity and for it to be something which, quite frankly is not particularly highly requested is just a bit of a joke personally.
The EMU issue can apply to the new LIRR route as well. How much of a different driving experience is the M9 gonna be from the M7 and M7A? The DE30 and Bi Levels have been requested, but currently no info on why they haven't been considered at all.
Indeed, there could be so much more variety regarding the gameplay if the added the bi-modal (or diesel?) locos with some diesel branches. I can barely see the differences between the M7 and M9. I guess mrchuck is crying in the corner right now.
Modern EMU’s must be the most popular type of train for TSW of this is the path they’re going down, unless it’s the usual problems on their end like licensing or access issues I can’t think of a reason why they aren’t producing a wider variety of stock where possible.
My only issue is that the recent trailers claiming TSW is the bees knees shows all of these other traction types, locos and variety but TSW4 UK for DTG has been just modern EMUs even the FS steam locomotive drives like an EMU. Heres hoping that JT and eventually Sim track with the 104 can give us other guys our much needed fix! Although disappointed that we got no update on the 104 and something else has jumped up the roadmap
Ah, the EMU. The gift that keeps on giving. I wouldn't be surprised when we go to our rest, we find emus up there too.
I don’t think TSW has ever worked by highly requested tbh, I haven’t checked but taking the 91 for example I am willing to bet they’re has been more calls for it than the 314 and more calls for the WCML than Cathcart before either released, though which are in the game. that will be true for other examples also, DTG quite strangely don’t have much focus on highly requested, obvious bigger desire equals higher sales, though we may be getting more variety out of there lesser focus on highly requested.
My personal two cents on this is that while it is kind of repetitive, there is likely a sizeable market for people who want to be able to drive trains they regularly see or use, which is highly likely to be an EMU of some description. Judging an addon shouldn't be done as though you're judging the placement of a new gun in an FPS game's meta either, instead by how good a recreation of the real thing it is, which is why I'm tolerant of the amount of modern traction that has been and is going to be added to the game. I appreciate I'm not the best at explaining things, so I'm going to drop a link to an interview Pete Waterman gave to the BBC about the state of model railways. It's a slightly different medium being concerned in it, but the points he makes could easily be applied to this situation, as both concern the wills of a vocal group vs what people seem to be snapping up. (And also making an Enough is Enough thread for everything you could think of that is wrong with the game is possibly overdoing it.)
Yea they’re is always the market considerations when talking reality, a varied focus especially an equally varied focus when it comes to trains is more talking ideal/train enthusiasts approach. I’m betting EMU’s will be pretty popular when it comes to sales, that and there is always what DTG has access to, the 60 or the 91 both are pretty talked about as alternatives but DTG may not have the access to them they need to get them right as of now aswell.
I must admit, I used enough is enough, in part tongue in cheek. However, it does not change my stance at wanting more variety. A 91 for ECML would of been many peoples choice over a 380. Yes we still want EMUs but interleaved with other rolling stock. With only six DMUs and sixteen EMUs there is an imbalance currently that has lead to a more narrow gameplay in some routes. MGR for MML with a 56 or 58. GWE brought us loading and unloading of wagons how about containers? I think we all want Train Sim World not EMU Sim World.
No, they don’t. Game now has more EMU than Rod Hull (RIP). If the release of the 380 onto Cathcart is a precursor to getting its own route later, maybe fair do’s. But we saw what happened with the much lauded 700, got stuck on the Medway bus service and apart from appearing as AI at Posh on ECML totally wasted in the game.
Every train is welcome as dlc. Its like complaining about a bakery why there is bread every day...common.
Is the only thing you do here request that threads should be locked??? This is a discussion forum, so discussions are gonna happen, ok? Sidenote - It would be nice if there was a rule against Mini-Modding.
Why? If you don't want to read don't look and don't engage with the thread then, no reason for it to be locked just because if differs with your view or opinion.
There must be a huge but not so vocal market for EMUs judging by the policy. I still feel that a transition era policy of producing stock is the better way. JT put the Pacer in to the Blackpool route simply because without they feel that the sales wouldn't have held up. Why we don't have a 56 or 60 yet baffles me especially with a shift to wagon packs seemingly here. The 66 is starting to wear thin. I am surprised that another version hasn't been produced mind, must be a licensing issue.
ROFL, so I'm not the only wicked mind here ... Let me quote a visionary EP for the OP subject: "If you don't like it, you don't need to buy it."
Also we all need to remember that your emus need to be looked after and "well-groomed". How To Groom An Emu
Yes. Wasn't there another highly debated topic about it? Definitely need more... It's waiting to come to TSW.
Like it and the added humor that GIF needs to be added every time a new 'EMU' is announced that or...
But then Matt said somewhere something along the lines of how 66s were apparently the frieght locomotive in England? Something my Facebook is blowing out of the water showing me all of the other freight locomotives that have just been repainted for freight companies. But then even Dadrail did a course to be able to drive another UK freight loco within the last year or so? So I don't understand that stance of 66 only.
I think one issue with the 91 is that it will require more money to develop as it has three individual cabs which need to be modelled, unlike the 314 which only really needs one cab modelled and then copy-paste for the opposite end. Maybe that's why DTG aren't too keen on developing the 91 as of yet. I feel like the 91 would be one of, if not the best selling DLC in TSW4 though, which would recuperate all the costs fairly quickly, as DTG do know how to make a good train.
I have to agree with these people this ain't me complaining but we do need to step away from EMU'S and have more variety as for the whole Enough is enough threads they are getting a bit much i agree but to add these people have a point aaronthomas1a said: ↑ admins need to lock this thread no they don't people are entitled to their own opinion
I think the 380 was “heavily requested” because Nathan must have multiple accounts on here lol. Only kidding, I shall be adding it to my CCL as I like multiple units on maps. They listen and then they go and do what they were going to do anyway, usually it’s the most straightforward filler they can find. Perish the thought of all that work building a 91 set, nooo they can get money much quicker from us by producing the 385 lookalike.
I agree, it’s time for some thumpers and slam doors. Let’s get out of the shiny new plastic box syndrome.
I think part of the problem is that DTG mostly make U.K electrified routes when only small portion of the uk rail network are electrified. Perhaps DTG should make routes that have both EMU's and DMU's or just DMU routes as there are plenty of options.
Im so tired of these emus… infact not emus modern day ones. Its getting boring give me some diesels fgs
Even some more modern DMU's would be welcome at this point. Obviously we got Rivet's slightly flawed take on the 170, but how about a route for 171's, 172's, 175's, 180's 185's, 220/221/222, 231, Class 755 "Basil" with the Wherry Lines.
There is a major difference between the 314 and 91. The 314 came with a route, set in Glasgow, which is in Scotland, that at the time had no routes, so I would say that the 314 were part of a package which were highly requested, however the 380 is coming by itself, and not bringing something else with it which gives some sort of justification. For example a 56/60/69/70 (choose your favourite) coming by itself would have justification as there are many, many people who would love another freight loco, but I don't see how there will be enough people specifically wanting a class 380 to bring it by itself. We all know what DTG assume when a certain product don't sell, and I would like to see loco dlcs continued.
Scotland well requested at the time yes, but not related to the 314, any of Scotlands 1st routes would have been pretty popular. The 314 just wasn’t the factor in that. if you wanted to eliminate the first route of a country factor you can see the same in many options another whether the 4F or 91 or 60 are in the game, most popular isn’t much of a factor in TSW dlc’s Always for more loco DLC’s, the 91 is my most wanted to see train in TSW currently and something other than the 66 for a modern ish freight would be well welcomed in my view. Edit: I don’t think many loco’s struggle to sell by themselves, 380 is definitely not the worst example to test that aswell. I imagine the CSX one DTG did with TSW2 I think it was may have been a hard push on that but I could be underestimating the US fan base in that.
If Cathcart was being upgraded that would be another reason for the 380, but as it is not, are we not going backwards? 380 would of been better on its own dedicated route then added as a layer to Cathcart. I actually played this route last week and it is nice but dull with narrow gameplay and short millage wise. I cannot fathom of all the EMUs and routes they chose this pair?
